#113 - "The Price of Fame" (Original Airdate: 01/20/03)
Much to resident thespian Dr. Abbott's (Tom Amandes) chagrin, Andy (Treat Williams) begrudgingly auditions and is offered the lead in Everwood's production of "The King and I." As Dr. Brown struggles with his lines, Ephram (Gregory Smith) struggles with his emotions when his intense feelings for Amy (Emily VanCamp) are complicated by Colin's (Mike Erwin) desire to be his friend.

#114 "Colin the Second" (Original Airdate: 01/27/03)
Although conflicted by his feelings for Amy (Emily VanCamp), Ephram (Gregory Smith) finds himself serving as confidante and friend to Amy's boyfriend, Colin (Mike Erwin), who continues to feel like a fish-out-of-water as he attempts to reclaim his life before the accident. Meanwhile, Andy (Treat Williams) hopes to convince Ephram to resume the piano lessons he abandoned after his mother's death; Nina's (Stephanie Niznik) absentee husband (guest star Dylan Walsh) comes home for a visit, which proves to be far from happily ever after; and in a bittersweet turn of events, Amy and Colin are nominated for Homecoming King and Queen.

Nobody felt like talking about these episodes.

:look: I wonder why...

Alexa 01-08-2017 10:43 PM

years later i will! lol.

113:

I felt bad for Colin, it must have been so overwhelming for him to get back to his life and especially school. Not sure he was ready for that just yet.

Seeing Bright and Ephram get a long was sort of cute, until Bright went and told Colin not to hang out with him.

Amy lying to Colin about knowing Ephram was strange. She should have just been honest with him from the beginning... and Ephram could have been honest too and told Colin the reason he didnt like him was because HE liked Amy. Perhaps if it had been that early on Colin woulda stepped back.

I did like the Colin/Ephram friendship though and I thought it made sense why Colin wanted to hang out with him... Someone that didn't know anything about you must have been refreshing.

114:

Nina's husband Carl seemed like a jerk and he annoyed me from the getgo. Not sure why Nina puts up with that, shes essentially a single mother. And Carl didnt even seem to understand why she was upset.

Colin's parents are putting WAY too much pressure on him to be "normal" again. Why cant they back off and just let him adjust to life without school firstt? JEEZ.

Bright standing in for Colin with Amy was cute.

This was the first episode that it seems Colin is starting to go off the rails a lot.

I couldn't stand the Harts from the get go. THey seemed to believe they knew more of what was best for Colin more that the doctors did. :irked:

It's downhill for Colin from now on and it won't be pretty. Poor Ephram.

PS...Yeah, Bright is a super brother. Very sweet when when he stood in for Colin.
PPS...Ephram needs to wear jackets and gloves!

I don't think it was. I believe it was really sloppy writing. His brain was not ready for such overload and that's precisely what was going on. He could barely get through the constant social stimulation at school, let alone being able to solve math problems.

Bright had some prick-like qualities in season 1. I loved seeing his evolution as the series moved along though.

Amy flipped due to guilt. I think she felt like her connection to Ephram was so strong, she couldn't even admit she developed a friendship with him because Colin would soon be able to tell she had romantic feelings for Ephram. That's actually precisely what happened in My Funny Valentine. The second Colin was around Ephram/Amy, he picked up on their dynamic. Of course Amy was jealous of Ephram/Laynie and couldn't hide it, lol, but Colin understood there was something between Eprham/Amy the second he saw them around each other in a social setting.

I think Amy tried to avoid that so she preferred acting like she didn't know Ephram. I think she believed it was her only chance at keeping her connection to Ephram a secret. Doesn't make it right, she should have been honest but I believe that's what she was thinking.

Ephram is such a good guy and has a calm and peaceful personality as a rule. Colin was attracted to it. He needed this sort of energy during this time period. So I definitely could understand why initially he was drawn to Ephram.

Hated Carl from day 1, too.

I was never a fan of the Harts overall.

Brice standing in for Colin with Amy was cute.
One of my favorite Bright/Amy scenes.

Definitely.

Yeah I didn't like Colin's parents ever either and it sort of makes sense as to why Colin had an attitude in the flashbacks and possibly why he's acting out now too, because they have this weird arrogance to them.

 I can't wait to see more of his development later on.

You're so right about that. You are all about your environment/family DNA and when we see his parents, we are definitely reminded that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Definitely his family ties relate to his behavior and personality in general.

Bright has such great evolution. Realistic evolution, too. He doesn't turn into Mr. Perfect. He still messes up, makes mistakes but gradually he evolves overall. His imperfections make him a character to always root for because he does have a heart of gold.

The first go around I didnt take any interest in Bright at all. So im definitely interested to rewatch it because I love Chris Pratt now so it sort of changes things.

 I was kind of the same way with Bright during the early part of the series. I started paying more attention/liking him around season 3. But I see what you mean about him kind of being in the distance at times. I mean, when you have Ephram/Amy and Ephram/Andy so dead center in such meaty storylines at times it is difficult to notice other things.

Were you a fan of Bright and Hannah?

Alexa 01-29-2017 06:09 PM

not really... :look: I dont know, I just wasnt into it, and from what i remember I felt like Hannah was too dorky and Bright was a jerk to her.

I may have a different opinion this time around but I sort of dont think I will lol.

jediwands 01-31-2017 01:37 PM

You definitely don't have an unpopular opinion. A lot of Everwood fans were either indifferent or didn't really like Hannah/Bright. Way more Everwood fans liked Hannah/Bright over Ephram/Madison but still, a lot of Everwood fans didn't really like Hannah/Bright.

Alexa 01-31-2017 02:23 PM

Really? I thought they had a solid fanbase! Did he cheat on her at one point? If so, I think thats what turned me off of them, but I really dont remember, I def. was indifferent to them through the series and didnt pay much attention. lol.

I hate to say it because shes seems really sweet but im just not a sarah drew fan.

Bright did cheat on Hannah season 4, but up until then he was pretty sweet to Hannah. Not jerky from what I saw.

I've never been a huge fan of Sarah Drew either. She's okay, but she's not Emily VanCamp.

Yes, Bright/Hannah had some fans, to be sure, but the fandom was much smaller than Ephram/Amy. Plus, I think with Bright/Hannah, you either love or hate them, there's not much in between. With Ephram/Amy, the vast majority of fans love the pairing.

Bright did cheat on Hannah due to not getting any, lol, because Hannah was strict with her sex before marriage rule due to religious reasons. I do think the cheating played a part in fans turning sour on Bright/Hannah but another reason from the start people didn't like them is they thought it was quite unrealistic how they came to be. People thought Bright would never even look Hannah's way, let alone fall for her, and Hannah wouldn't even find Bright that appealing either, even if she claimed Bright was her type. People just found it unrealistic that they ever got together in the first place. They saw them as oil and water, simply not mixing.
