Storylines that you wish they had shown more of

What are some stories/relationships/friendships that you feel should have been shown more?

A couple for me:

I always liked the interaction between Harold and Ephram and thought that they could have shown more of that.

I thought that they should have had more of Amy and Delia together - The families were close, Amy/Ephram, yet we never really saw them bond too much

I have a feeling that they might remove this thread......so I pasted your question onto the Writers' Thread where it may be more appropriate and people can reply to it there.

Welcome, Dolfan!

I was thinking maybe we should keep this one? We go back to this point fairly often, who should have interacted more, every few months or so, so maybe it deserves it's own discussion thread? It may not last as long as The Writer's Thread on the front page or with activity, but it's an ongoing discussion since there's so many characters that never interacted at all. I already posted my thoughts in the Writer's Thread, so if not , that's cool too.

I agree with those two big time. Especially Amy and Delia. I feel this was a huge missed opportunity. Delia needed a girl to talk to, to help her go through adolescence, and Amy was perfect for that. She went through the same issues with popularity that Delia ended up having (Amy in season one), with dealing with parents (Amy in season two), and dating (Amy and Ephram). Especially post-season two, when Amy had matured a great deal and Delia didn't have Madison as a support system, I would have really adored this relationship. I never understood why they didn't go with this other than, I guess, they didn't have enough time and instead chose to do the Amanda/Andy storyline. I don't think it'll shock you to say that I would have preferred Amy and Delia to that abomination.

Andy and Reverend Keyes (possible brutal spelling of both of those) is another one that would have been nice. Andy needed a friend sometimes. Obviously, Harold and him grew into one of the better pair by the end of the series, but I liked Andy and the Reverend.

And, just watched "My Funny Valentine", what happened to Dr. Trott? I really liked Andy with her. Not as a relationship exactly, although that tension would be nice, but as someone to confide in. I thought they had good chemistry, and I wish they at least had brought her back for a final goodbye. Just one more episode, I would have liked that a lot.

By the way, did Bright or Andy ever interact with each other individually? This might be my memory acting up again, I may have even asked this before, but I can't think of a single instance. I remember in "We Hold These Truth", when Andy finished working on Colin, he and Bright shared a look, and that was really sweet. I have no idea what they would talk about, heh, so maybe they should just have sweet looks with each other. Alright, that's treading on a slashy theme I really don't want to go to.

This thread is fine. I was just concerned that the powers that be would not think that this question should be its own thread and I was afraid that they would yank it before people could participate in this great discussion. I was trying to rescue it!!

Either the Powers that be are not around or they think that it's ok.

At first, Bright thought that Andy was a freak. After Andy saved Colin's life.....Bright gained a lot of respect for Andy. He even admitted to Harold that he didn't blame Andy for Colin's death like the rest of the town did.
I really wish the two of them had more interaction. I'm not really sure in what capacity. Maybe Bright could have come to Andy to ask his advice on how to lighten up his fuddy duddy dad! Maybe they could have talked about Ephram when Ephram was all messed up. Andy could have asked Bright's advice on how to approach Ephram and how to make peace with him.
Let's face it...Andy saved Bright's life on the operating table (ruptured appendix).
Did Bright ever thank Andy? Come to think of it...did Harold ever thank Andy for that?

Andy/Bright...funny, in the scene I just recapped in "Reckoning," it's the beginning of Bright's drunken birthday celebration, and Ephram offers to cover the tab with one of Andy's credit cards, alleging that Andy would've wanted to buy Bright a drink anyway. Bright happily exclaims, "I knew I liked him!" So if he already felt that way, maybe there was a little more to their relationship than just sweet looks, heh.

The lack of much Amy/Delia interaction is one of my big disappointments. Neither character was among my top five (though I liked every character on the show -- it's just that I loved a select few), but I did love what little we were shown between the two. A friendship between the two just would have made so much sense, especially given that Delia was more than likely someday going to become the Amy Abbott of her high school class. And Amy, being only a few years older, wouldn't have brought with her any "substitute mom" baggage the way women in Andy's life had the potential to do.

I also have to concur with the disappointment regarding such minimal Ephram/Harold. I understand it, because there really wouldn't be a great deal of interaction between a teenage boy and his on/off-girlfriend's dad. But that being said, their scene in "Shoot the Moon" was lovely and provided some really great insight into Harold, and a few more scenes along these lines wouldn't have hurt anyone.

There's another character match-up that I could have stood to have seen more of, but I've already discussed that ad nauseam in various other threads! But on a marginally related note, Andy and Hannah in "Foreverwood" were weird and kind of hilarious. Had Everwood survived, they could've had one scene together a season, in which they awkwardly discuss how odd it is to be talking to one another.

I figured that's what you were doing, I was throwing my hat in for the keep it side.

Quote:

Harold never has to thank anyone. He has that look that does it. You know that look. "I'm forever grateful for your help, and you know it, you arrogant bearded lunatic". He does that to Andy a couple of times in season one.

I had thought that Bright would have had a moment thanking Andy either after this, or after Andy saved Colin. Maybe even a talk after Colin's death, now that would have been awkward but really great, I think. Great thoughts on what they could have talked about. Harold, for sure. Maybe they somehow meet, and they joke about Harold to each other. Talking about Ephram, definitely. Ephram would kill Bright if he ever found out, but Bright has insight into Ephram that Andy can't get (and Andy has insight into Ephram that Bright can't get).

OH! Gosh, that totally spurred why I posted my thoughts in the first place and then forgot when I was talking about Amy and Delia. Amy and Andy! Specifically, their moments when Ephram went away to New York and I had hoped they would continue that relationship. Amy talked about how she spent lots of time with Andy, and I figured they were going somewhere with that, but nope. Now that would have been fun. Plus you can get the topics that Bright would talk with Andy with Amy too, and probably more realistically. If anyone has insight into Ephram, it's Amy. I could imagine them talking much more than I could Bright/Andy. It'd be kind of forced to get the two guys together often, but Amy and Andy would be a lot easier. Amy's the type by season three that I can almost imagine her coming over just to hang with Andy. Now imagine Ephram walking into that! Eesh. Get some baby pictures involved, and we've got torture. I really thought they were going to have them interact more when Amy mentioned hanging with Andy in the premiere to season three, but I think they even ended up interacting less, if possible!

Yes, once every season Hannah could visit Andy and they could make cocoa.

You could see how comfortable Andy was talking with Amy the morning after Ephram returned home from NYC. The Brown kitchen was chaotic. Sam was running around trying to get a can of soda. Andy was trying to get Delia out of the house with Nina. The phone rang....it was Amy. Delia gives Andy the phone. "Oh hi, Amy!" he says so comfortably. "Can you call back later?" It was if they spoke together very often. The look that Ephram gave Andy was priceless.

As to the scene in "Reckoning", sweet looks and beer, that's still really slashy. Hee. By the way, for such a social guy, Bright's birthday in that episode is so unbelievably sad. I mean, it's kind of supposed to be depressing with the whole Hannah-not-there vibe, but it's really depressing.

Andy looked kind of afraid when talking to Hannah. Chris Pratt talking to Mr. Crazy wine-tasting expert afraid. I did love his "have we ever done that?" to them talking. Everwood doesn't get meta very often, but that was hilarious. Does that even count? Whatever, I'm counting it.

I always thought Harold liked Ephram quite a bit. When Ephram is giving Amy the mixed CD as a gift in season one and Harold has to lie and say she's out, Harold looks sooo sympathetic, and then takes Ephram's side after when he knows Amy is being unfair. And his "why do you look like you might throw up?" in a previous scene between them is just so good. Until super sperm, the only thing he had against Ephram was Andy. Which actually might be just as bad as super sperm, but he did seem to like the kid. He might see himself a bit in Ephram? Harold was a total introvert as Ephram's age, In a totally different, marching band way. I could actually see Amy and Ephram turning into Rose and Harold in a way. I think they would have a wonderful relationship as adults.

Oh, I just watched that scene again in "Shoot the Moon". What a scene! Ooph. Oh Tom! You're so good. Frickin' hell, give that man a show! Harold talking about how he wanted to play music, referencing how he wanted to be a surgeon. Aw. Harold. Yes, they needed more scenes. Tom and everyone, really.

Absolutely, absolutely. I so wish they had continued with it, just even a few more scenes showing their new relationship. It's so interesting, it's that cross-generational storytelling that Everwood does so well. You wouldn't see that relationship on any other television show, and sadly, we only really heard about it on Everwood. This show needed, like, three more episodes a season to fit every interaction we all wanted in.

I think got semi off topic about three times in this post. It's late, I'm rambling.

What I found even more depressing about this birthday episode is that Ephram actually organized this celebration....said he was going to make calls.....and who attended? That's right.....Amy and Ephram and Bright. Oh, and later....Stephanie. What arrangements did Ephram make? I think that the only call he made was to Stephanie!
Doesn't Bright have any other friends? No wonder he was depressed enough to drink himself into enough of a state that he falls through a window.

I think that I might be missing some scenes in the later seasons but another one is Delia and Edna/Irv. Seeing the beginning of season one again, they were pretty close and kind of like her grandparents. I truly don't remember much interaction (I must be missing something here?) in the later seasons.

On another note, I always loved Irv's interactions with a lot of the characters - Harold, Andy, Ephram, Bright, Amy - they had some hilarious moments.

I don't think you are missing many scenes. Delia pretty much loses all contact with Irv/Edna and Nina after season one, as far as I can remember. Which sucks! She was close, had a special bond, with Edna especially. And the same with Nina. Her growing up shouldn't have excluded her from getting advice from Nina. If she's not getting any from Amy, Nina's right there! Next door!

And continuing to have that bond with Edna while growing up, that would have been really interesting. As we've noted Amy being able to help Delia with their similarities, who helped Amy in season one and two through similar difficulties? Edna. She could have done the same with Delia. And I find something very interesting about Delia still going to hang out with Edna at the same time as trying to get with the in crowd. How she juggles that, maybe not wanting her friends to see she does that, but then standing up and being proud of it.

Yes, Delia grew up and her stories had to reflect that. She couldn't have the cutesy, little kid stories that she had in season one (which I love, of course), but how interesting would it have been to see her growing up and still having a bond with Nina, and especially Edna? The cutesy stories were easy with those two, but it's more challenging to see a preteen or a teenager have a relationship with them. People don't just lose their bonds so easily, and I never understood that at the very least we didn't get a few scenes of Edna and Delia reminiscing, or Nina trying to help out Delia but Delia being resistant. If they weren't going to continue the bond, at least give us a few scenes that reference it. It all just disappeared suddenly.

I just recalled that Delia went wedding-dress shopping with Edna in season four, so maybe they were trying to imply that the relationship was there and always had been...

I forgot all about that scene. You're right.
As far as Delia and Nina.....if there was a Season 5......there would have been a lot of interaction between those 2 because they would be living together.
Not all the interaction would be good....after all......Delia would be a teenager and probably would be a handful at times. I'm sure Nina would have had to deal with that...not always politely.
Of course, there would be those wonderful times when Nina and Delia would have those heart to heart mother-daughter situations and the interaction would be beautiful.

Hmmm... I don't know about Delia being a brat towards Nina. She's been raised well, I still picture her as a polite girl, and Nina isn't family, not the way Andy and Ephram are. You can be mean to real family, because that's just how it is, because they know and love you that way... but everyone outside of that very special bond... can't. I just don't really see that... only if she didn't like Nina the way she obviusly does.

I didn't really mean to say that Delia would be a brat to Nina.....although it is possible....she would be a teenager and changes in personality do happen.
I kind of meant that Delia will become a handful in general and Nina(as the step mom) will be called upon to help Andy with the discipline. We know that he usually can't do those things on his own.

I think that a perfect time for Delia and Amy to interact and bond would have been the time when Delia wanted to be popular and was hanging out with the popular "semi-scumbag" girls. This would have been a perfect time for Amy to tell Delia about her experiences with Paige and Kayla. She could have told Delia about the incident season one when Kayla uninvited Ephram to her party. This would have hit home and would have been a definite eye-opener for Delia.
Oh....so many possibilities.

ETA: It would be really funny for Nina and Delia to reminisce about the Penthouse incident and the "Foot Massager" incident. Just imagine that conversation when Delia is a teenager and what she would say. LOL
