Halftime Show

I thought it was great. The beauty of Madonna's performances are sometimes more about WHO she puts around her for the sideshow. She never fails bringing it big time and last night was no exception. Madonna looked AMAZING! I can't believe how awesome she looked. What she did sing was outstanding. She hasn't missed a beat. You could tell during "Like A Prayer" (she definitely wasn't lip syncing there) she slightly adjusted her voice due to maturity but I thought it fit perfectly and if anything, I liked this version better! I thought it was cute how she said she was so nervous before performing, too. Like or hate her, that woman has made her mark in music. She grew up not far from where my relatives live in a Detroit suburb. Went to NY at a young age. She has never been in major trouble off the stage. No drug or alcohol addictions, has never done anything wrong whatsoever in that way. I think it's awesome. She's an icon.

The Game

Man, I think I saw it coming from a mile away. The Giants were simply the hottest team for weeks now. When they went to Packerland and beat the Packers, you knew something special was happening. They had it all, running game that developed at the right time, great defense, an amazing quarterback who is now with all the elite quarterback names and his first name isn't even Peyton!

I am happy the Giants won, they really deserved it! And yes, TC is a hell of a coach. He's not going anywhere anytime soon!

I'm not a big Madonna fan, but I agree that the show was pretty good...although like I said, I enjoyed the LMFAO guys and Cee-Lo more than Madonna herself. That was a decent version of Like A Prayer too.

You know, all the people saying that Lady Gaga is better than Madonna can get back to me when Gaga is 53. If she's still relevant, then they might have a case.

Oh, and P.S. I know this is from a few pages back, but Shelby, you aren't the only Tebow fan on this board. I didn't used to be, but I am now. Just because I criticize how he's portrayed, especially in college, doesn't mean I'm not a fan.

I'm so happy for Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning. Coughlin basically booked his ticket to Canton: then again, maybe not considering these voters don't think Bill Parcells is a Hall of Famer.

Congrats to the Giants! Congrats Betty! It was a great game. :D My cousin who is a huge fan is going to the parade tomorrow.

Lastly, as a Dolphins fan, I'm just so glad Wes Welker is 0-2 in the big game.

The Crow 02-06-2012 03:00 PM

Can't go with you there. Wes Welker's a nice Okie, so I'm rooting for him to get a title...just not with the Patriots.

My son was all set to come up to go to the parade...and his manager goes and schedules two meetings for him to attend tomorrow. !:irked:

Wes Welker is my boy he is a great guy and a Red Raider so Im with Alan on this one it was hard to see him drop that pass....Knowing him, I know he will beat himself up for that for a long time. It would have been a great catch but it wasnt the reason they lost you can pin a game down on one play.

Gisele Bundchen blasts Pats WRs

New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker was so upset over dropping a crucial pass late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 21-17 loss to the Giants in Super Bowl XLVI, he nearly started crying at the podium.

Welker isn't going to get any pity from quarterback Tom Brady's wife, Gisele Bundchen, though.

After her prayers for a Patriots' championship went unanswered, Bunchen lashed out at the team's receiving corps for failing to haul in her husband's passes. While waiting for an elevator at Lucas Oil Stadium, Bundchen was being heckled by Giants fans when she spoke to people in her group.

"My husband can not f------ throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times," Bundchen said in a video captured by theinsider.com, a gossip website.

Wide receiver Deion Branch and tight end Aaron Hernandez dropped passes on New England's final drive.

After the game, Welker said he let the team down when he failed to come up with a Brady pass he says he catches "1,000 times."

"Wes is a phenomenal player and a teammate," Brady said. "I love that guy."

If only his supermodel wife felt the same way.

Brady was not available for comment on Monday, when the team flew back from Indianapolis and arrived at Gillette Stadium on buses. Asked if the team had any comment, Patriots spokesman Stacey James pursed his lips together and shook his head from side to side.

But defensive back James Ihedigbo says Welker was a big reason the Patriots made it to the Super Bowl, and he's not to blame for the loss.

"You can't point fingers at anybody. Wes made amazing plays all season," Ihedigbo said. "You win it as a team; you win it and lose it as a team. And we lost to a good football team."

Bundchen made headlines leading into the game when the press received an email she sent urging her close family and friends to pray for Brady on Sunday.
LOL.

I honestly think the issue with the Pats offensively (and I kept chirping away about it last night) was because Gronk was down and out. He was not himself and that offense has been running through him for weeks and weeks. They were very off as a result. Not giving excuses because Welker needs to catch that ball and they should have adjusted but that was a key injury the Giants took advantage of with Gronk so hurt and the Brady/Gronk connection so non existent as a result.

cowgirl08 02-06-2012 10:06 PM

Still haven't had a chance to catch halftime show yet as I was on a pizza run during it but the debate between Gaga now and at 53 shouldnt be the issue....the issue is the fact we have to keep putting artists who are past their prime out there. Madonna is one of the greatest performers all time but she isnt what she used to be its not her fault its just life your voice ages.....you can find current artists that are still in their prime that wont cause controversy like Janet Jackson or this years big story MIA flipping off camera. Finding an artist that is both a big enough icon and still in their prime is hard but its getting a bit out of hand in recent years with their choices. From what I have heard though this years was the best in recent years so we are making progress I guess.

As for Welker an that catch it was a bad throw to his off shoulder but as Welker him self said in interview he got his hands on it and he should have caught it. It would have been a great catch but those are the plays that you have to make to get it done i.e. Giants Manningham making that catch on sideline. Patriots as a whole had too many mistakes...well realy both teams played a bit sloppy for a super bowl but those last 5 minutes the Giants were able to get it together and take home the trophy.

jediwands 02-07-2012 05:39 AM

I'm not sure I'd call that pass "bad" even if Brady's usual accuracy wasn't there. Welker had the opportunity to get two hands on it and he didn't which is why he is so upset with himself. He gets paid to catch those balls and couldn't get it done for as harsh as it seems. He needs to pull in that pass. Not saying it cost them the game but it was at a very crucial point. They were up, not a ton of time left and would have been in very good field goal range had the completion taken place.

Bob Bradley committed to Egypt job

LONDON -- Bob Bradley insisted Monday that he is "totally committed" to coaching Egypt's national soccer team despite the turmoil in the country following the riot at a game last week that left more than 70 dead.

The soccer federation president who hired Bradley last year resigned last weekend along with his board after they had already been dismissed by the prime minister in the aftermath of Wednesday's rampage.

But Bradley, the former U.S. national team coach, is sure that he will lead Egypt into African Cup of Nations qualifying.

"I'm totally committed," Bradley told broadcaster Al-Jazeera according to an emailed transcript. "When a tragedy like this occurs it's important that people can come together and can be strong and in my role as coach of the national team I want to do whatever I can in my responsibilities to help with this process."

The deadliest soccer stadium disaster since 1996 unfolded in the Mediterranean city of Port Said following Al-Masry's league match against Cairo-based Al-Ahly, with fans crushed to death while others were fatally stabbed or suffocated in a stampede.

Protesters accused the police of doing nothing to stop the violence and that set off a new cycle of clashes against Egypt's military rulers that has killed 13 people in five days.

"This is a much deeper situation than football -- really not the case of football fan violence -- and I think it is important for people around the world to understand that," Bradley said. "Obviously there is a lot going on in Egypt at this time, events after the revolution, and the football community is connected with all that and certainly some of the Ultras from different clubs especially Al-Ahly.

"These young people have been responsible for trying to bring about change in the country and these are people that have a passion for Egypt and with it an incredible passion for Egyptian football and their club."

Al-Ahly players Mohamed Aboutrika, Emad Moteab and Mohamed Barakat -- all on the Egypt national team -- announced they are retiring from soccer after witnessing the violence last week.

And Bradley is unsure if Egypt's 2013 African Cup of Nations qualifier will go ahead in the Central African Republic as planned on Feb. 29.

"Quite clearly given the events, it will take these players some time to try to move forward," Bradley said. "With it, there are enough questions about when the league will begin again or whether or not games will be played with fans or without."

The Crow 02-07-2012 07:11 AM

Yeah, it wasn't a great pass, but it was highly catchable. That being said, it would have been a great catch, so I can't fault him for not coming down with it. As for the Gisele stuff, from what I've read she yelled that stuff at some fans who were basically heckling her about her husband. What was she supposed to do, say that her husband sucks? I think that the media is making too big a deal of that whole thing.

As for the Madonna thing, yes, she's way past her prime, but she's out there because of the whole Janet Jackson thing in my opinion. Right after that happened was when the NFL shifted to the older bands, and MIA flipping off the camera will only serve to make them think that they were right not to entrust the halftime show to newer bands because they'll be inviting controversy.

Of course, me liking this year's halftime show shouldn't be an indication of if it's good or not I guess. I liked the Black Eyed Peas, and pretty much everyone else hated it.

I thought that Kelly Clarkson did a great rendition of the national anthem though.

I think because the guy's typically money he is being looked at with a, 'How did you not make that catch?' since he usually makes those in his sleep.

I actually credit her for sticking up for him. She should. That's her husband, she was highly emotional at that moment since he lost, and I bet those NY fans were a bunch of A-Holes, too. She's human and even introverted me might have yelled at them to shut it in an even meaner tone. LOL.

I agree. MIA being an idiot certainly goes against the theory of newer and younger being better.

I loved this half-time show. I thought Madonna sounded awesome, as did the rest of the musicians.

It was high and to the wrong shoulder....not a great throw. But like I said he got two hands on it and 9 times out of ten he comes down with it. As for Gisselle I actually gained some respect for her and that marriage she acted like any wife would in that situation she is just famous so she gets the pub.

Yeah MIA screwed any chance of that...they were just starting to let current artists make small appearances as apart of the show....with that display it will
Be back to someone in their 90's alone on stage haha

Two posts came in after I editted this into my last post, so I moved it to it's own post...

ETA

I meant to post about this when I saw it on Real Sports, but I forgot about it. Apparently Kevin Kelley, coach of the Pulaski Academy in Little Rock, Arkansas, has pretty much eschewed punting altogether. He goes for it on fourth down almost exclusively, regardless of where he is on the field, and kicks an onside kick after nearly every score. It's like how I play on the X-box, but it's working. It's a small school (about 350 kids) that is nationally ranked that has won 3 state championships with Kelley, who is 90-19-1 for his career at Pulaski. Oh, and he doesn't field punts either. Ever. And he sometimes rushes all 11 players on defense and covers no-one.

Here's a story Sports Illustrated did on a game where his school was ahead 29-0 before the other team touched the ball.

Poor Bob Bradley. He loses his US coaching job...gets this...and now..this! What a mess. I'm sure Bob will handle all of this with dignity. He is doing all the right things. I feel sorry for all Egyptian soccer players.

I agree with this. All fans have their A-holes. You can't blame her for saying what she did. I guess she has to be careful in the future as to who is nearby when she speaks her mind.

I loved the show as well. It had to be toned down because of the audience. For someone her age..she was terrific. As to the lip syncing...it's her voice. It's kind of difficult to do dance moves like that and sing well at the same time. That didn't bother me.

LOL, Kelley seems awesome! I love his unconventional way of coaching and hey, look at his results as proof that his way is obviously working, too!

Absolutely. He is loyal to the core so it's obvious he will not leave until he attempts to put the national team on the map.

Agreed. The NY/Boston-NE rivalry in any sport is huge, too. Fans love to verbally go at it. I probably would have exploded in the same situation.

Totally. I think when she had to go there it was for the performance, not to get away with not singing.

I also heard she was suffering a pulled hamstring all week before the Super Bowl and she commented on how she felt like a player getting ready for the game.
