First: Baker Mayfield, QB, Cleveland Browns. I wrote at length about Mayfield during the rookie quarterback progress report a couple of weeks ago. In short, he has been head and shoulders above the rest of the competition, and that's before Mayfield alternately torched the Bengals and antagonized their sideline last Sunday. Mayfield's numbers are excellent -- the first overall pick now ranks fifth in the league in passer rating from Week 7 onward -- but he's quickly approaching folk-hero status in Cleveland. The added bonus for playing quarterback pushes Mayfield atop the ballot for me.

I did. He was on Undisputed this morning.

What do you think?

James is such a dick, especially since Tomlin gave him the starting job as well

It’s ridiculous. He’s still mad about his last days playing for the Steelers. He has a long history with the team, his family lives in Pittsburgh. You’d think he’d want to keep the door open for a possible future return in some capacity like a defensive coach or management position. I guess not.

I am sure there’s plenty of other reasons we’ll never find out about.

Been meaning to check comments over on big soccer. Have you seen anything lately?
I will check Big Soccer.. I'm not sure I totally like this idea. Why just limit yourself to MLS players? I'd like to see every option and how everyone plays with each other. I want a definite final team created...something we haven't had in over 8 years!

Hopefully he has a plan.

I’m reading Big Soccer. Most are happy/content with the hire.

Seeing comments like this one:

I’m excited about Berhalter. I don’t care about current trends. I’ve wanted a ball dominant USMNT since I was a kid. Berhalter has done that without elite players and was able to punch up with that style.

He’s created teams that play better than their sum with a ball dominant style. Super excited to see it.

One last pro-Berhalter nugget. And to contrast to JK and Arena.

Berhalter knows he is a student. Therefore, he is always looking for ways to improve. Methodology. Training. Scouting. Evaluation. Tactics. Visiting & confering with other clubs & coaches to study their methods, thus ever improving his.

After he got canned in Sweden he went to school. How do I get better? Went to Barca. Went to England. Germany. Italy. What can I use?

He got better because of soliciting & exposing himself to how others (the most successful others) did things. He improved because of it. He realizes this and so now he does it all the time. It is part of his process, now.

Arena & JK thought they had the answers already & so stopped looking.

Again, I do not know how successful he will be. But I am positive he will continue to learn and improve. He is leaps and bounds better than he was in Sweden or in 2014 when the Revs shredded us in the POs. Or in 2016 when the Pipa/Kamara thing tore up the locker room.

Guys will know what we are doing and why and what their responsibilities are.

I think he's a really good hire. He is a former USMNTer, good player, one of the few US coaches who has coached in a European league. Respected as a coach, players like him. And he's a Yank. Understanding our crazy system is not easy. And he simply will care more than a typical high-end rental coach. That counts.
