I love the wonderful caps and colorful way of writing Matty! Nice touch.

I'm confused about something else... Lol. Why did it come to be that Ireland OR France get to go, not both? I'm confused on how this took place? Is it the same as how the US had to make it with the tourney and points? Why has it come down to winner take all for Ireland/France?

Yeah, every continent or global area has a group...with us...it was the top 3 winners that get in. I think that in Europe...the countries are divided into a bunch of groups.

These are the groups...but I don't know how many from each group qualifies.

Thanks, Betty! That makes loads of sense now.

I cannot wait for the match tomorrow between the Irish and Frenchies, hee. Should be outstanding! Now, we just have to find out what time it's at and we're set.

Michelle, I don't follow the MLS...but I do watch the LA Galaxy when their matches are televised because I like to watch the play of Landon and David.
There's an important match late tonight for the Western Conference Championship at 11:25 PM ET on ESPN2...if you're interested.

Interrupting the soccer talk briefly to say that Carolina lost yet again. What a rough start to the season they're having. Yeesh. And Atlanta has really been recharged with Kovalchuk back. I like Atlanta, so I'm glad to see them having probably a better time so far than most expected.

I am interested, thanks! I'll watch! I rarely see those two play together and this will be awesome watching them play together in an important match! I am tuning in!

Puck

I cannot believe Carolina is sinking so low. So perplexing. I would be shocked if they do not can the coach. That's usually what happens whenever things do not straighten out or answers are not at least given as to why there is such failure going on. When all else fails, fire the coach. I cannot believe they haven't slightly produced some light. They haven't at all.

The Wild played strong at times tonight against the Caps, even taking a 1-0 lead but it wasn't enough. They hung tough but couldn't succeed in the end.

About the times listed. As I said, they are CET, Central European Time. That's 6 hours ahead of the east coast time in USA. So when it's 6 o'clock over there it's 12 o'clock here. And in Norway we use the 24 hour clock. That means we don't use AM and PM. The new day starts at 00:00 and ends at 24:00 (or 23:59 to be pedantic).

Explanation:

12-hour 24-hour
midnight
12:00 a.m. 00:00
12:01 a.m. 00:01
12:59 a.m. 00:59
1:00 a.m. 01:00
2:00 a.m. 02:00
… …
10:00 a.m. 10:00
11:00 a.m. 11:00
11:59 a.m. 11:59
noon
12:00 p.m. 12:00
12:01 p.m. 12:01
12:59 p.m. 12:59
1:00 p.m. 13:00
2:00 p.m. 14:00
… …
10:00 p.m. 22:00
11:00 p.m. 23:00
11:59 p.m. 23:59

And if you're planning to use the site I reccomended you should start your a few hours ahead of the match you're planning to watch as they might take some time vertifying your account. Also, parts of the site is only in Norwegian, but most of it is in English as well. I don't think you'll have a problem working it out.

Ireland - France

Yes, the European qualifying stage is divided into 9 groups. Loads of countries in Europe you know. This continent also has the most spots in the World Cup, so this is the best way to do it.

Each one of the group winners go to South Africa, and the second placed teams(except from the second placed team with the least points, which was Norway...) play against eachother in two-legged play-off matches.

Eight second placed teams equals 4 play-off ties.

As I said, the matches are played over two legs, that means that Saturaday's matches won't decide it. France are going to Croke Park in Dublin on Saturday, and on Wednesday Ireland are going to Stade de France in Paris. The winner on aggregate score goes to South Africa.

Did that make sense?

Off to bed now. Now that I've explained that we're six hours ahead of the American East Coast you'll realise it's 5:30 in the morning here, and I have to be in work at 11:00.

Ta ra

Hee. Yeah, I know that Alex is 7 hrs ahead of Minnesota and England is 6 hrs since Minny is central time. Thanks for explaining the times are European since it totally makes sense now.

Betty, how screwy that the lights went out during the match.

PS: Beckham's hairstyle is not attractive!

I'm surprised that there hasn't been a coaching change yet in general, but with Carolina especially. Last year, we had a coach canned in, like, five games or something with Tampa? Maybe teams are just being more patient, but Carolina can't afford to be at this point. Although I don't think Paul Maurice is the problem, something has to change, and other teams are probably unlikely to go for a trade so early in the season, especially with a team that's doing so very poorly!
