Welcome Nika. I'm American but I have Polish ancestry and we celebrate our holidays with many Polish customs and traditions.

I don't have any that I necessarily stay in touch with regularly, however, there are a few Aunts/Uncles and cousins that come here to visit sometimes and when they do, I always see them. My family is pretty big so yeah, we have these big family get togethers all the time, it's great. I've never been to Poland, I want to go one day for sure. I can't wait. But we certainly celebrate holidays with Polish customs, etc. Just last night I had Golabki and I'm all about Pierogi & Kiełbasa.

You definitely should come visit one day. Poland is a beautiful country. lol..Gołąbki are the best but I always eat the meat inside and leave the cabbage...hehe...and Pierogi as you probably know are like a Poland's trademark. What about Bigos? Have you tried this? You must've have. It's very popular too.

Oh and do you speak Polish??

Yeah it really is. I know this much just based on what my relatives have said combined with the endless pictures and videos I've seen of my relatives that live there or have visited there. Of course I've looked up information on Poland on my own as well. It fascinates me so much. I'm very proud to say that I have Polish ancestry for sure. My dad's side is all Polish and my mom's side is all Slovak so I'm 50% Polish, 50% Slovak.

I like the cabbage crispy, if it's on the harder side I love it, I'll eat it up but if it's too soft sometimes I push it aside and dig right into the meat/rice instead.

Of course. I love Pierogi. In downtown Minneapolis I go to a Catholic church to buy Pierogi on the weekends. The nuns at the church make it. It's delicious. As close to my Grandmother's as I've ever tasted. There are also quite a few restaurants and stores as well. In Cleveland (I've lived there most of my life but I'm now residing in Minnesota) getting Pierogi was also quite easy. To either buy it already made or make it yourself. And I love all kinds of it as well.

Oh yes for sure! My Grandmothers recipe is very good. I grew up on this stuff actually and I still eat it constantly. My mother even makes it, she learned how to make it from my mother-in-law. Also, Slovak food isn't too far from Polish food as you know so I am constantly eating mixtures of both kinds of food and of course loving every minute of it.

Not fluently. But my father knows it fluently and of course my Grandparents and other relatives as well. So I heard them speak the language and I picked up on a lot of words and phrases over the years. I definitely know the basics. Same with Slovak.

I just added a new section to the first post for Everwood Fan Websites. I think lots of newly introduced to Everwood members would be interested in finding great websites Everwood related.

If you have a Website on Everwood you'd like to have in the list, PM me or ask for it on this thread

So there's no American blood in you. How did you ended up in US then?

And it seems like you pretty much know everything about Polish cuisine...It's supposedly rather heavy but it's what makes it so tasty!

My Great Grandparents (both sets) came here from Poland around their early twenties. My Grandparents were born here in the United States, Cleveland, OH. My father was born in Cleveland as was I.

I always love listening to my relatives speak the language fluently. And they always sing some Polish songs as well, especially around the holidays. I love listening to them.

Oh it's so great that even though your family is American since 3 generations you still keep Polish traditions. Nowadays when Poles are going to US they're just turning themselves into Americans in no time, speaking with a heavy American accent after a week already...One shouldn't really be ashamed of its heritage...

Oh yeah, Poles are really famous for singing at almost every possible occasion...There are those songs called Biesiadne( I don't really know if there's an English word for it) which are basically a sing along songs mostly coming from a country traditions...

Thanks. A great effort is constantly being made and I guess I shouldn't even call it an effort, it's more like a desire. I know the Polish traditions will always exist, I even see how my sister is implementing them with her very own family as well now. It also helps that her husband has some Polish blood as well so it works out great.

Yeah that's really too bad. Nope no one should be ashamed of their heritage. I was born and raised in Cleveland and the Polish population in this city is very high which I loved. Along with Italians, both are very high populated in Cleveland. Another city in the United States with a large Polish population is Chicago, a city I've been to many times. I really love that city. So yes, in those two big cities alone, there certainly is a little bit of Poland in the United States.

Yeah.

Oh my gosh, yes, singing = Poles...

Aroa, thanks for introducing yourself again! Welcome.
