I didn't like what Andy did at the end of Season 3...going under cover and not saying anything to Sam, but I forget what happened at the end of Season 4! It's been so long!

Well as far as I know a lot of people are not happy with Sam for the whole Season 4. Some fans think that he should have waited for Andy and not start anything with Marlo. Others think that he was better boyfriend to Marlo than to Andy and they think that he didn't respect Andy when she got back in the precinct and basically advertised in front of her his relationship with Marlo. Other fans of course think that this wasn't the case, that Sam tried to move on and lied to himself that he likes Marlo and this was self defense mechanism. Also some fans are not happy with the way Sam treated Andy in Season 3 after Jerry died.

From what I know I'm in the middle. I do think that Sam is pretty closed off, so doing things in some form of self defense is typical for him. I do agree that this would seem to Andy as disrespect and would hurt her though.

Oh and there are some fans that now like Andy/Nick more than Sam/Andy.

This is just breakdown from what I've read in the forums so I'm interested how you saw the things.

It looks like they listened to me and they decided to pair up Dov and Andy together and their scenes sound intriguing.

At least these two are conversing! I believe these were more lines than the two of them had together in all their lines combined the first 4 seasons!

What essentially happened to them in those seasons?

Well that is subjective, but I will try to be as objective as possible trying to convey what happened. However please just have in mind that there might be some spoilers. I can't tell you the story without revealing some stuff. I will try to not reveal too much, but feel warned .

In Season 1 Andy and Sam met for the first time. At this point Andy is dating another guy (Luke) from the precinct and Sam is more or less just admiring her from apart.

In Season 2 Luke and Andy are engaged, but she caught him cheating. Naturally they break up. Sam goes undercover without knowing that Andy is ready to be with him. Anyway in the end of Season 2 Andy and Sam get together. Till that point almost everyone was happy with them.

In Season 3 their relationship is explored. While Sam and Andy are together, some problems between them are explored. Their way of communicating is different. Sam is more Introverted and keep to himself guy, Andy is more Extroverted and typical type A person. In the same time Sam is more active and impulsive guy while Andy thinks through more. For most of the Season 3 though the problems between them are normal couple problems. Nothing big and major, nothing extreme.

One of the detectives Jerry (who is one of Sam's closest friends in the precinct) dies during a case. Jerry was also the fiancee of Andy's best friend from the precinct. As you could tell it's bad for all of them. Sam takes it pretty bad and closes himself up. He retreats and doesn't communicate with Andy enough. He isolates himself. Andy tries to help him by making him talk. Sam explodes and breaks up with her. In the finale of Season 3 though they have bombing case and at some point Andy holds a bomb. This makes Sam realizing that he loves her and he tells her so. She tells him that she needs time or something like that.

Luke offers her Undercover job and she decides to accept the offer without telling Sam anything about it. So basically Season 4 starts about some months later. Sam found out from others that Andy is Undercover. She goes there with another guy from the precinct (Nick) who is dating Gail (another officer from the precinct). In Season 4 premiere is like few months later like I said. Sam hadn't waited for Andy and started dating another detective from the precinct called Marlo (she is new one there). Andy and Nick get closer during the Undercover. They go back from their mission. Andy sees that Sam is involved with another one and Sam basically tells her that he is moved on and he is happy with Marlo. Andy tries to isolate herself from Sam and she relies on Nick as a friend. In the same time Gail starts seeing that Nick likes Andy as more than a friend and cheats on Nick. Nick breaks up with her. Long story short Nick and Andy hook up and Sam is continuing dating Marlo.

In the end of Season 4 Marlo's bipolar condition causes her problems at work, Sam is shot. In the ambulance Andy admits that she loves Sam and he looks like he feels the same way.

The fans however have the following problems with some stuff in the end of Season 3 and Season 4:

1. Why Sam broke up with Andy after Jerry died?
2. Why Andy didn't stay for Sam in the end of Season 3, but left for Undercover without telling him?
3. Why Sam didn't wait for Andy and moved on so quickly with Marlo?
4. Why Andy decided to hook up with Nick who is Gail's ex?

Overall let's just say that there are fans that are unhappy with Season 4.

Yes, I can absolutely see why the shippers have issues with this relationship. There seems to be a lot of problems going on here. I remember watching a scene of two between Gail and Andy during the time period that Andy slept with Nick. Gail wanted her stoned.

Yes, there seems to be lots of issues between Sam and Andy that go well past just normal relationship problems. There's severe lack of communication and trust. It appears they are the meant to be couple but the holes in their relationship certainly explain why people are confused and annoyed by them.

Betty, how do you feel about them overall and Koni, who was your favorite character on the show when you watched?

Also, so what is Dov's relationship with Sam and Andy? Is he friends with both? Better friends with one?

I kind of understand Gail. Look I'm trying to not see the things in black and white. Yes Andy is free to hook up and date whoever she wants. However she can't expect Gail to be OK with it. And seriously Nick is the third guy from the precinct that Andy slept with. It shows how much she thinks about things. We all know what romance on the work place means. She can't be the flee to go from flower to flower. I know that it's really harsh and judgmental, but I guess I would think about things like that.

Well I think that the writers kind of did not do their best job there. In Season 1 and 2 you could see how Andy and Sam fit and you knew how much they are for each other. Till Season 3 I could still get it. I get that Sam needed time. Yes he isolated himself, but you gotta understand this. Sam is Introverted guy who didn't have serious relationship before Andy. Of course he will have problems and trust issues. Of course Andy would be hurt. I get that, but till that point I still thought that it was OK. I still thought that if Andy talks to Sam and tells him why she was hurt and he explains to her why he acted the way he acted they have a chance.

Andy however decided to get away which is actually the communication issue. If two people run away instead of talking through they can't solve their problems. I have theory about Sam in Season 4 too, but no idea if I should bore you with that .
I like Sam the most because I could relate to him the most. At least till Season 3 and I do get some of his actions in Season 4. He is far from perfect, just the closest to me.

Unfortunately Dov hadn't had that many interactions with Sam and Andy. So far I could see them as just co-workers and nothing more. Dov interacts more with Chris and Gail IMO.

I've always wanted Andy and Sam to be the end couple. I never cared for Luke and I just thought Nick was okay.
Lately though, I do have an issue with Andy. She seems to be a little too anxious to have a guy and doesn't really care whom she hurts in the process. Maybe it's a good thing if she were alone for awhile.

Sam and Andy love each other, but as Koni said, they're personalities are different and they don't always have the best communication.
Sam did gravitate toward Marlo a little too quickly! I beleive both Sam and Andy should slow down and just relax and think for awhile!

Dov is friends with everyone, but the only deep friendship is with Chris amd Oliver. I would like him to develop a closer relationship with the other characters.....especially Andy.
