Would you say that you (your side as a whole) would have to support them in a way because you have more experience in this kind of projects?

Smooth sailing. It was really light and easy. Nice drive.
Great! And I saw that you were definitely on time to watch Supergirl.

That's great!

So going forward how often will you have to interact with him and the others in France?
I am not sure. I don't think that we will have to interact that much between each other. I think that more likely the team will interact with us. Meaning if they have questions related to the project specifics they will ask me and if they have questions related to used technology specifics they will ask him. I don't expect for the team to ask both of us something unless it comes to a point where they need me to explain him something or vice versa so that we will be able to give advise.

They kind of set up some kind of chat. It's something called Slack. Not sure if you have heard it. I have heard it, but I have never used it . Anyway they set up chat channel with the whole team plus the experts so we kind of can chat for some stuff instead of using emails. Though sometimes I prefer email communication. If it's a question I could answer with one sentence then let's be chat. But if I have to write like two pages answer the chat won't do .

I guess we will wait and see.

No problem! Sorry that I forgot to link it in the old thread. For some reason this wasn't in my mind at all .

It's hard to say because the people who work at Minnesota Duluth are more experienced in other areas. I feel it's balanced overall. We have more background in this particular research area so we will be explaining/going over the history. Present day research stuff/stats/results will be even though.

Makes sense. I am like that with work too... sometimes I prefer email for lengthy explanations but if it's a simple, clear question or two, chat works better since it's an immediate response/interaction and not in depth.

I have never heard of Slack before.

Something similar happens on our side as well. We have the business knowledge in this specific project while they have more experience in the technology aspect. In this sense both sides are beneficial to each other.

I prefer chats when things are so unclear that you need to ask like 5-6 questions. And each questions depends on the answer of the previous one. When it's like that and the person is not physically near you, chat works better because you can have short 10/15 minutes discussion and clear out the things. With emails it will take days.

However if I have to provide specific information that is not just a line or two, over page describing some process I prefer email. It is more isolated and structured and it's not lost in some chat history. You have it in your email archives.

I do not like it. The design is just awful IMO. Like I have heard so much about it that I expected something far more than this.

Precisely.

Exactly. It depends on the situation but the examples you gave I go with as well. Sometimes a phone call is better too, it depends. However, I try to avoid the phone as much as possible.

Who created it? Is it like an AIM or Gmail chat?

I do not want to use phone because my work phone is not working. And I will not use my personal phone to call France or Germany. That just won't happen . I do like direct communication when possible, but if not chat/email are fine as long as I am able to add the structure I need and want.

I have no idea about the application. It's like chat that offers also audio/video interaction. It has different channels (both public and private) for groups communication and stuff like that. I just dislike the user interface.

Plus I hate group chats because sometimes people tend to ramble and ramble and if you have not read all of it you have to read like 10000000 messages and that is so annoying to me. It's why I avoid all group chats . I am OK for chat one to one in the cases I mentioned. I am not OK with group chat of 16 people. Sorry, but this just doesn't look good to me.

Yes. I've worked with one of them before so I already know the one.

Makes sense. When I'm on the phone it's making calls in Minnesota or rarely to a different state.

Agreed. I'm the same way. I don't like big group chats either. Sometimes my Cleveland friends will get together and do a group chat. Those are OK obviously but I actually prefer just talking on the phone if we're going to go there. We also have the capability to do a group phone call as well with the few of us. I prefer that. We know each other so it works. I wouldn't want to do this with people I barely knew or wasn't super close with.
