Random TV, but also, Mad Men and (500) Days of Summer!

Sorry. So Saturday Night Live kind of sucks a lot, but I just found out that January Jones is hosting on November 14 and Joseph Gordon-Levitt the week after.

1.) It will blow my mind to see her demonstrating more emotion than she does on a weekly basis as Betty Draper (but, given Elisabeth Moss's marriage to Fred Armisen, I'd bet good money that we'll be getting a MM sketch, even though Betty and Peggy have interacted in precisely one episode. I think Christina Hendricks would've been a more fun choice for host, though).

2.) I have so been hoping, with the film and all, that he'd be tapped for a hosting spot, because that guy appears to be game for anything. They have to make him dance. HAVE TO. But I'm also okay with just spending 90 minutes looking at him.

You may now return to your discussion of things that more than one or two people care about. Heh.

Go Joseph Gordon-Levitt! I would be happier with Christina Hendricks too (although I would be MUCH happier with Vincent Kartheiser, or however you spell his name, because I think he'd be pretty fun), but I don't think anybody knows who she is, hee.

Oh, man, Vincent Kartheiser would be fantastic. Unfortunately, he's even less well-known than Christina, hee. I do think that regardless of the quality of writing in JG-L's ep, he should be pretty good, but I'm a little concerned about JJ's. The Mad Men commentaries didn't really give me the impression that she's someone who can inject a lot of fun and liveliness into an unlively project. If that makes any sense whatsoever.

Heh, yes the boy certainly was scary, too. I really think for me it's the possession part that just completely scares me. That's exactly what he becomes... possessed. It's just completely insane. I think that's why I have problems with the movie, The Exorcist. That absolutely frightens me. LOL. I STILL, to this day, cannot see Linda Blair without thinking about how amazing and scary she was in that movie.

So yes, for me it's anything with an evil type of possession and I am like a typical girl hiding my face, scared to death.

Hee, awe. Yes, the original Halloween is soooooooo scary! Would you know I have never seen A Nightmare On Elm Street. I've never seen it! I'm not sure how this is possible but I think I have to do something about this weird fact. LOL.

Hee. I think it was all about their bond as father/daughter. It was important for your Grandfather to let her know he would always be with her and I find this so amazingly beautiful. <3

That's incredible! I didn't know this. Apparently Crosby is not resting in peace if that's the case? I don't remember how he passed away?

Yeah, there is nothing like the book. I remember the Friends episode where Rachel and Joey are reading Little Women and The Shining and how how hilarious that episode was. LOL.

Seriously, Michelle...we who watched FNL last season posted our thoughts each week and there really wasn't a week that we didn't enjoy the episode.
That's so great! I cannot wait to join in and discuss with you guys. Very much looking forward to it!

Dan Ackroyd was on Larry King Live tonight, and he seems big into the paranormal/ghost thing too, and I thought of this thread.

Halloween tomorrow, and instead of a horror movie marathon, I'm still on a marathon of The Office, heh. Much easier for me to take than horror movies.

Friday Night Lights

The first season will always hold a special place in my heart as nearly perfect television. I'm not as down on the second season as some people are, but there were some definite missteps, especially in the Landry and Tyra storyline. It was recovering nicely when the strike ended the season early. Season three was pretty much a return to form, although I was sad to lose a couple of key cast members.

Halloween/Scary Movies

I've never seen The Exorcist, and I don't plan to. It's one of the only 'old-school' horror films that I haven't seen.

I have seen all of the Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and Halloween movies, but I didn't watch them until I was an adult. I wasn't too big on scary movies when I was a teenager. I had no urge to see them whatsoever.

So, my Halloween movie marathon playlist has firmed up. Time permitting I'm going to watch the following movies, probably in this order: Dance of the Dead, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Predator, The Lost Boys, Wicked Little Things, Splinter, and I'm gonna cap it all off with Monster Squad. You'll notice that there aren't a lot of 'traditional' scary movies, and none of them are really Halloween themed. I dropped Trick 'R Treat from the list because I watched it fairly recently, and I put Monster Squad last because, while it is full of supernatural monsters, it is at heart a comedy, so it will end the night on a light note.

Of the movies I'm planning to watch, I'd only consider Splinter even remotely scary, and it's more unnerving and creepy than anything else. Dance of the Dead and Wicked Little Things are awesome and gory, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is a more intimate slasher-type movie, and Predator and The Lost Boys are just awesome in general.

I don't want to spoil you if you don't know what happens in the season finale, but that has a huge impact on the S/J relationship. Let's put it that way

I'm happy you're enjoying FNL, it's a great show. I started watching it this summer after reading so many good things about it and I fell in love with it. Season 1 was perfection, S2 had some problems but S3 was back to the S1 level

I do still watch Flash Forward but I admit that there are some problems with it. I started watching it because of Jack Davenport in the first place so I keep waiting to see more of him.

First of all, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!.

The possession thing is a scary thing to think about, and it was sure put to the full effect in The Exorcist. That one is just one of the best. Not just as a horror movie, but just a movie in general. It was nominated for several Golden Globes and Oscars, including Best Picture for both. That doesn't happen too often with a horror film. I understand it was a real horror to make as well. Lol.

The original Halloween was just frightening. There was practically no blood or gore. Just suspense and pure terror. Great atmosphere. The original Nightmare On Elm Street was frightening to me too, especially a certain alley scene where Freddy's arms stretched across the whole alleyway. This was when the popcorn went flying all over the car. They have a re-make coming out in April, and I am not thrilled.

Yeah, the Bing Crosby stuff is cool. Bing died from a sudden heart attack after finishing a game of golf. I think it was in Scotland. He just walked off the last hole and just....keeled over. Anyways, we have Gonzaga University here, where he went, and his childhood home is on campus, and there's a statue, and a museum that has a bunch of stuff inclusding his Oscar. My grandfather, my mom's dad, played the ukelele and he actually played with Bing once or twice up at some lake I am not sure of. So, that's cool too.

Didn't Joey on Friends have to put the book in the freezer?. Lol.

Yep. Right here. Now you know. Lol. It's a pretty big deal here. Beautiful campus!.

Tos - Yeah, Aykroyd is big on the whole paranormal thing. Ghosts, UFOS, and all that. Always been a big buff. I think it's what drove him to write Ghostbusters. He hosted a show a few years ago too called PSI Factor. I never saw it though.

What kind of problems did you see in season 2, Laura? Yes, I honestly think for me season 1 is as close to something "Everwood-like" as I have ever encountered. It has such high quality like our Everwood. It's exceptional.

What does everyone who watches FNL think of the show while comparing it to Everwood?

Exactly! You hit it... how often does a horror film get the nominations like that? Hardly ever and The Exorcist certainly accomplished just that. Flawless writing and acting. Incredible story. It hit home for so many because people do believe this can happen in real life, possession, and I think that is what disturbed people so much... how it happened to a little girl on top of it all... it freaked me out, so many scenes in that movie as I type this come flooding back to me and I feel scared just thinking about them. Lol.

The less is more concept with Halloween is what made that film work... you said it... the lack of blood and gore somehow caused the movie to be that much more scary because you were anticipating things in such a nail-biting kind of way. The way the scenes were constructed was something else, along with the music. Incredible stuff. And Lol about the popcorn flying, hee. So cute.

That is so interesting. And, verrrrrrrrrry interesting that Crosby died of a sudden heart attack... it goes with the very common notion that many spirits that are ghosts, trapped between two worlds, are the ones who die suddenly or in a traumatic type of way... some do not even know they are dead or they know but they do not want to leave, they want to remain earthbound because they are too attached to this world. Very interesting how his death was so sudden. And Gonzaga! Sweet. I always vote for them in the NCAA tourney! They are known for their outside shooting and I just love the little runs they have made in the past during this tourney. That is so cool about your Grandfather playing with Bing! Wow!

Yes, that's right! Joey had to put the book in the freezer because he was so upset over the dramatic issues that were taking place in the book! Haha. I think he was more upset over Little Women than Rachel was over The Shining.

Random The Office Thoughts

You know what's really creepy about the opening credits staying the same even into the fifth season? Other than B.J. Novak, everyone looks exactly the same. What's going on here? The cast has, like, anti-aging powers. In four years, the Everwood cast looked dramatically different. Is this non-aging still the case in S6?

Pam looked cute with her glasses in..the episode where she wore glasses, but I still cracked up at every single mean thing that Michael said to her. "Oh, my God. Pam. Those make you look so ugly. Um, Pam. In order to get hotter, you take the glasses off. You're moving in the wrong direction." "Blah, blah, I can't even hear you. It's just noise coming out of an ugly scientist." "Pam has clearly just given up trying."

You know, I've never really liked Angela, but what she's doing to Andy in S5 is really really really messed up. Stringing him along, engaged, while she has sex with Dwight? Come on. How could you do that to someone that says, ""Andy Bernard does not lose contests. He wins them. Or quits them, because they are unfair."

Jim and Pam continue to be adorable, at least in the first ep of S5. Jim's proposal was all kinds of cute and unexpected.
