It is definitely worth it. The season 4 premiere was last night, but it's only airing on Direct TV now. I'll either have to download it or wait until it airs on NBC next year.

Michelle, it doesn't get any better than Jack. Nothing is better than a crazy Jack. So many great moments and lines in that movie. Watching him unravel is a sight to behold. Love that movie. And Psycho!. It's a classic for a reason. I love the old black and white Universal horror movies too.

Ghosts

Yeah, my mom has never forgotten that moment. She'll still mention it every once in a while like it was yesterday. She's just as speechless to describe it today as she was then. This was 1984, I believe.

A big, grand hotel we have here called The Davenport Hotel, was featured on the Today Show a few Halloweens ago because it is haunted. A woman apparently flung herself from a window and fell to her death. People report seeing this woman re-enacting the scene over and over again.

First of the year is season 4 on NBC? I don't understand the logistics behind the Direct TV thing then NBC. It sucks for people who do not have Direct TV. My sister has it so I can watch over there but I'll probably wait anyway given that I haven't seen season 3 yet. LOL.

I'm glad you watch, Alan. It must be good if you tune in.

I know it! I remember whenever I first saw that movie I had a nightmare that very evening. I kept seeing his face all screwed up with evilness and it freaked me out! LOL. He is so spectacular in that movie and you said it, it was watching the entire process, evolution unfold... watching him unravel, the subtle hints as he plunges deeper into this world that is unknown and dark. Incredible stuff!

Heh, so true. The black and white makes it that much more powerful, you know? Such great stuff. The words exchanged... every single word in every scene means something to further the story in such a remarkable way. It's absolutely amazing. Hitchcock is classic.

Here is a great article on the movie: Psycho (1960)

So priceless. Was she struggling with his death and/or did she have a special relationship with him here on earth as father/daughter? That is usually what happens... they will appear to a loved one that they know might take their death the hardest. It is their way of soothing the pain, coming in a form in order to let them know they are here with them always, they love them, and will always be with them.

Amazing! Wow. It sort of reminds me of the Villisca Axe Murders where the house is still haunted, even by the murderer himself, they claim!

Did any of you ever see this movie starring John Cusack? It is also about a haunted hotel and is quite good.

It makes absolutely not sense to me either!!
I'm glad that you're watching, Michelle. I believe that this is your type of show. You're going to love season 3.

Thanks.

Was there a time whenever they thought the show was ending? Have they estimated when it will end? I remember the outrage whenever it was possibly ending from the dedicated fans. I believe it was around the same time Alex bought me season 1 and I was bummed and hesitant to watch because I didn't want to get hooked only to find out the series was over. Thank God it survived!

At the end of every season of FNL...the possibility of another season was iffy...but A plan was always formulated so that there would be another season. I'm not sure if the ratings have been improving through the years...Alan, do you know? or Gaby? (she's also a fan.)

Yeah... thankfully the series has continued. It's way too good. It amazes me how One Tree Hill still exists but our Everwood ended way too early and this show has been on the possible chopping block yearly. Ridiculous.

I guess I'm weird, because I'm pretty much the only person I know who didn't like The Shining. In fact, I prefer the mini-series remake with Steven Weber. If it hadn't been for the creepy twins girls, then I wouldn't have found any part of the movie scary.

The Direct TV thing came up so NBC could share costs and make it more financially feasible to keep such a low-rated show on the air. In fact, at the end of last season Direct TV upped the ante and made a deal with NBC for two more season, so it will be around until at least 2011.

I agree. That was a nicely creepy little movie.

It was pretty much a surprise that it came back after the first season, and after the second season the Direct TV deal came about, so it has thankfully risen from the ashes several times.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure they hover between 4.7 and 4 million. Of course, it is one of the highest rated show among 'Affluent Viewers, i.e. households with over $65,000 incomes, and it gains more in the 'Live Plus 7' ratings that take into account DVR viewings.

I also don't really find The Shining all that scary, which is weird because I'm a big wuss, hee. But, I do find it to be a really well-acted psychological thriller more than anything. Which I guess isn't the right description either, but basically the father goes crazy. With...super powers and ghosts thrown on the side, heh.

Yeah. LOL. For me it's Jack's acting... it's compelling enough to freak me out. LOL. I think if it was purely a psychological thriller I wouldn't have been so scared but it's the component called evilness that does me in, heh.

Also, have you ever read the book? That's good stuff.

Okay, that makes sense and I guess we should actually be thanking Direct TV for saving our show then. Thank you for explaining that, Alan. Do you think the show has decreased in quality at all or do you feel it's about the same or even better than the earlier seasons? Betty, chime in, and anyone else... how do you feel about this?

Makes sense again since that's precisely when Alex bought me season 1.

I loved season one. I liked season 2...but not as much as season 1. I really really loved season 3...even a little than season one. More interesting characters were added...I thought that every episode was really well done! I just loved the dynamic between Eric and Tami Taylor.

So apparently, according to a Wall Street Journal article, Conrad Hilton was introduced as a character...because the Hilton Hotel chain wanted him to be one, presumably as a form of product placement. Kind of says a lot about the direction the show's taking, doesn't it?

Oh, and re: Rich Sommer on The Office, he played an art school classmate of Pam's.

It is! Did you see the movie and read the book? They are very different, indeed. Are you a huge King fan, Betty? I love his novel, "It" so much. That is just insanely good.

That's interesting, thanks for information. I can hardly make any big comments on this outside of saying I adored season 1, liked season 2 but not as much as season 1. Have all the main actors stayed on the show or has anyone left? Anyone new added? I love it whenever the entire cast stays together.

Horror Films/Halloween

The Shining creeped me out when I was little. There was just this creepiness about it. The hotel, the twins, the dead people. Just this slow burn feeling as well. I can still see how it would hit me when I was little to this day, although it doesn't scare me now. Lol. The little boy was actually a bit creepy too. Lol. The mini-series with Steven Weber was very good too. I enjoyed that one as well. And the book!!. Great book too. The exterior of the hotel is in Oregon. The Timberlinbe Lodge. Might have to take a trip there sometime. Probably a 3 to 4 hour drive. The original Halloween and A Nightmare On Elm Street were the scariest ones I saw. Those two were the ones that scarred me for a good portion of my childhood. I was 5 when Elm Street came out, and I saw it at the drive in theater that used to be a few blocks down from my house. I don't know if I saw it at 5, but I know I was reaaaaaaal little. Lol. The popcorn went flying everywhere.

Look familiar?

Ghosts

My mom was doing pretty good with his passing, Michelle. I mean, she was sad, but he was old and in a home and it was probably not very surprising. They had a good relationship, but I was 5 when this happened, so I don't know all. 5 again!. Lol.

The thing about the Davenport haunting is that some people think the ghost of Bing Crosby is there as well. Bing is a local boy, so there is a lot of history here of him. There is a Bing Crosby theater they think is haunted by his ghost as well, and his childhood home.

I did both....liked the book more than the movie. I'm not a huge fan of "Crazy" Jack Nickleson.

You'll like season 3 more than season 2. The cast does stay together...but some members are not seen as much because of different circumstances.
The new characters are a very good addition to the main cast because they add really good interaction and controversy..which makes for riveting scenarios.
Seriously, Michelle...we who watched FNL last season posted our thoughts each week and there really wasn't a week that we didn't enjoy the episode.
