When Echo saw an opening, she literally didn’t even hesitate before attacking Clarke. She strangled her, and if Madi didn’t intervene and tell her to stop, she probably would have killed her. Did she even stop to think about how Madi would feel if she saw her mom die in front of her eyes? How Raven would feel? How Bellamy would feel about losing Clarke…again? She was really ready to kill Clarke despite knowing how much Clarke meant to Spacekru, her family. That’s what separates her from Clarke. When McCreary gave the order to kill Echo, Clarke didn’t even hesitate, and stopped it from happening. Why? Why would Clarke Griffin go out of her way to protect the woman who just tried to kill her a second ago? Because even though she believed that Bellamy was dead, she knew how much Echo meant to him. “Bellamy loved you. You were good for him.” AND THAT. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the difference between Echo and Clarke.
