| Moans, Groans, And Pet Peeves As fans of Everwood, we've all made the most of the numerous opportunities we've had on these boards to list and discuss the many things we like about this special show. But, even the most ardent of us have had moments, scenes, story lines, characters, etc. that we haven't liked. So, here is a thread dedicated to venting about these things. Remember, these are personal opinions we're looking for here. My list goes like this: 1) The Madison Pregnancy: I had no problem whatsoever with the introduction of Madison's character, nor did I with the romance between her and Ephram. It was a good way to get Ephram some experience (romantic, not just sexual) while Amy was emotionally unavailable. It addressed some realistic issues regarding age gap romances. And she was great for Delia. But the whole pregancy thing struck me as unnecessary (spelled "contrived") and has been drawn out too long. 2) The Andy/Amanda Relationship: The only reason this isn't my Number 1 is that it hasn't gone on as long as the Madison pregancy issue. My main objection here, other than the fact that it keeps stealing screen time from other beloved characters, is that it ruins my conception of Andy's entire character. As low as Andy was emotionally at the beginning of the show, and with all he has gone through since, he always had a strong moral center, always agonizing about the right thing to do. Even his deception about the Madison pregnancy had the best of motives. Now, all of a sudden, he is morally bankrupt? I don't like it one bit. 3) Amy/Tommy: I believe the Tommy character was totally unnecessary. Amy's depression, and her emotional unavailability to Ephram, could have been depicted just as well without him. I just never bought them together. Even in the depths of her depression, I don't believe Amy would go for such a lowlife. 4) The Season 1 Murder Mystery: One of the few plot lines in Season 1 which seemed forced, if not downright hokey. 5) "Need To Know": Although I'm still annoyed by what I see as uncharacteristic behavior by Ephram, Amy, and Bright, my main peeve is that we were not allowed to experience the Amy/Ephram "afterglow" for a bit longer before they hit the skids again. 6) Bitter Grandpa: Nothing against the acting or the writing; I just hated the S.O.B. I'm looking forward to hearing your moans, groans, and pet peeves..... | |||

| 1) The Madison Pregnancy.. Why? Why was this necessary? Couldn't they have come up with a better way to drive wedges between Ephram/Andy or even E/A for that matter? This, to me, is WAY TOO soap operish for my liking. It is moving too closely to other shows like OTH/OC/Creek by coming up with this "contrived storyline." Lame. I must also say that while I didn't like E/M, I understood the necessity of E/M. But this pregnancy storyline is only a cheap way to create drama. Everwood is way too original for that. Well, apparently not, I suppose. I just hope that once Madisongate is over (please wrap this thing up in a timely manner, Berlanti!) we will not get into a pattern of these contrived/soapish storylines.2) Andy/Amanda.. This storyline absolutely disgusts me. I cringe while watching it. Andy is portrayed as being the lowest of low without a shred of morals. Even though I am seeing it on the screen, I am still having a hard time believing that Andy would actually go through with any romance with Amanda. This storyline irritates me immensely. 3) Lack of Edna/Delia.. I loved season 1 so very much, and the relationship of Edna/Delia is one of the things that I simply adored. And now we are midway through season 3, and they never even see each other. There was something so special and solid about their sweet relationship. Something that caused me to smile each time I watched them on the screen together. And then it was abruptly taken away. Lame. 4) Need To Know.. I had this endless urge to throw my tv across the room during THE ENTIRE EPISODE. Enough said. 5) No development of the Edna/Bright relationship.. This one irks me also. Why did we get somewhat of a glimpse that Edna/Bright were on the path to developing some sort of relationship in season 1 whenever Bright's appendix burst, and then nothing ever developed after that? I thought one of the most adorable scenes on the show, ever, was whenever Bright was in the hospital recovering from his surgery, and Edna came in and started to show compassion and love for Bright. That was so touching. The interaction was amazing. I had huge optimism that this was the start of a grandmother/grandson relationship, but no dice. I thought it really sucked that they never developed this relationship, at all. Last edited by Wilpen : 12-23-2004 at 04:26 PM. | |||
