In Western medicine, there is this "doctrine of dualism" and in Eastern medicine, it's more of a holistic approach. I think the holistic approach is better in my opinion sometimes. Cuz, to use my teacher as an example, she had this smooth muscle problem but it was affecting all these different areas and so, because she is in America and follows Western medicine for the most part, she went to all these different doctors (specialists) and it was only by chance that her mom realized that it was a smooth muscle problem. Each of the specialists thought it was something else but it was all connected. If Eastern medicine had been practiced, it might have been sooner that she realized what was going on.
Linda does Eastern medicine. That's why I like Linda. I hope that made sense. I have some more notes on Western vs. Eastern medicine as (once again) I learned this stuff this year. __________________

I, myself, prefer the holistic approach. I do feel as if both types of medicine integrated is the best possible way to go about healing. The problem is getting both sides to integrate.. It amazes me how in Europe and other parts of the world, they are given the different options to utilize. Here, in the States, alternative medicine is still looked upon in a negative light, as far as the big wigs that decide health insurance, etc. It's really too bad that for the most part, in the States, if you want to take a holistic approach and take advantage of the variety of treatments available besides the common "traditional" methods, you have to pay out of your pocket in order to do so.

What are your stances on the issue of Linda's non-disclosure of her HIV status to her patients?

Tough question, Noah. I'm actually not really sure I have a definitive answer to this very interesting question. I have to think about it further to really come up with a conclusion to what I think about it. A part of me feels like her patients had a right to know and the other part of me feels like if Linda was 100% careful and responsible, there would be no need to reveal her HIV status because there would be no risk of patients contracting the virus, anyway. So, I'm not sure how to directly answer the question. lol
What are your thoughts? Anyone's thoughts for that matter? |

I agree with your thoughts, Noah. Totally and completely. She did take every precaution.

Count me in with agreeing with your thoughts, Noah. She was taking every precaution. I also think it was way too extreme whenever Harold got his insurance ripped away from him. I also want Harold to take over once Jake moves out eventually. I wonder if he can be reinstated? I sure hope so. Maybe there is a time period that he has to go through and eventually he can regain his own practice, again. Andy could even back him and help him do so. I also want Edna back. I'm thinking that in The Perfect Day, whenever Harold and Edna were working together while treating all of those sick children, that could have been foreshadowing for Harold/Edna working together in the future. I would love to see it. Louise can stay with Andy and Edna would stay right where she is and Harold can join her. That would be great to see.
Back to Linda.. Man, did I ever feel for her whenever it was found out that she had HIV. She did go through such emotional distress. I also completely understand why she didn't want conservative Everwood to find out about her status. |

Interesting article about Marcia Cross' work in psychology. Also mentions her attending Juilliard. Bet you she showed up for any auditions they made her go to.

I really liked Linda; she strikes me as a breath of fresh air. Anyone else think that Andy didn't treat her very well when she was his girlfriend though?

I loved Linda as well...she was a very beautiful character inside and out.
I'm not sure about Andy not treating Linda well...How do you mean, Lemony? |
