The Health and Wellness Thread #3: Mental & Physical Health, Personality Types

I thought about how frequently a few of us discuss diet, nutrition, mental and physical health, personality types... Well, why not create a thread where we can openly talk about this stuff on a regular basis if we so desire?

Rules:

1. You have to love Everwood. Haha.
2. You have to be mature and cool. Who isn't on our board? LOL

Okay, so let's get going!

Thanks for the new thread, Michelle!

LOL That's me too. I didn't take anything more than advil for hysterectomy pain and I had an open surgery. Same thing for appendix and gallbladder surgeries. Even my sister questioned my sanity. The nurse said she had never encountered someone in her 30 years of practicing after a hysterectomy (one of the biggest surgeries you can ever have next to brain and heart surgery) requesting not to have the strong pain medications. She almost put some in my IV because she thought the pain would compromise my health/immune system while healing but I told her I would immediately tell her how I felt and sure enough, it's all I had.
For other stuff I'm more inclined to take pain relief pills, but not for headache because I've used to it. It's like a sign that I'm alive . Plus if I take pills for this I will have to be on the pill constantly. I mean I have headache now as I'm writing. Luckily if I'm listening to music I block out the pain to an extent.

It's happened so many times at work. I simply cannot function for that 30 minutes so I have to retreat.
Exactly! I usually quite often have nausea at work and it definitely interferes with my work. I can't think straight when I have so strong nausea.

Welcome!

Makes sense.

Why do you think you often have nausea at work?

Two reasons. I believe that there are two factors that play role in my nausea:

1. The stomach issues like bile and acid reflux. So basically I react strongly (read having nausea) every time I encounter smell that I can't tolerate. Usually it's about perfumes and food.
2. Spiritual reason. I might react with nausea to someone's feelings or emotions that I picked up. Or some negative energy as a whole. At least this is how I explain to myself the waves of nausea (sort of panic attack, but not quite) that I have when I'm in crowds.

I think that it's not full blown panic attack because there is no panic with me. I know that it's not serious. I know that I won't die. I am very logical and methodical when this happens from the first time it happened. I go outside, take deep breaths, listen to music and close my eyes. Basically I take control over the situation. I don't panic. That's why I think for me is more about picking up energy and stuff than actually having panic attacks and social anxiety.

It makes sense! I have 2 alllllllllllllllllllllllllll the time! Obviously the empath stuff for me but it's an everyday thing and I hate it! But yes, even though I know I have social anxiety stuff, it's also the empath stuff too. I can even be on the phone and I pick up the energy and can feel sick. Happened to me last night actually! I was on the phone with my cable company and this guy pissed me off. He was talking to me like I was two years of age and being really condescending. I was barking back but he was just pissing me off. I actually hung up on him! I felt his energy and started getting severe nausea. I couldn't even eat my dinner until I relaxed for about an hour after the phone call. I had to get rid of his energy and then I felt better.

Exactly. Sometimes I just feel this negative energy that surrounds the people I'm talking to. When I was younger I was starting to get irritated myself and my mood worsened because of the stuff I was picking up. Now I am better in sensing this energy so I don't allow it to transfer to me. I have some defense mechanism however and I just retract and isolate myself from those people.

Actually this is one of the reasons why I don't get along with this idiot at work. I sense that I won't like him on energy level. Can't explain it. I just knew from the start that this guy is not my type of person. It happens to me all the time when I meet new people. That's why I immediately know if I will get along with someone or not.

It makes a ton of sense.

I can't tell you how many times I've said 'There's just something about him/her' and I've said it to friends and family. You are right, it's really, really hard to explain but you just know.

Yeah . And the other thing is that people wonder how you can trust this because you have no explanation, but you just know and you know that you are right. Certain people just don't click with you and that's it.

That's right.

So I definitely think I have some sort of mild, chronic sinus infection or maybe it's consistent allergies/rhinitis.

Remember when I mentioned I've been fatigued more than usual several months back? I went to the doctor, he did bloodwork and didn't find anything minus low vitamin D and thought it was sleep apnea related. It might still be a sleep disorder (very possible actually) but I also have a stuffed up nose daily. It's mild and not like you get when you have an active infection. Just a stuffed up nose and throat clearing, sometimes voice gets squeaky. I've had this for weeks now. I'm convinced this is causing my fatigue over the sleep apnea or maybe it's a combination of both. All I know is my eyes are heavy, I think, due to the sinus issue which makes me want to sleep more than usual. I use nasal saline but the symptoms continue. Who knows.

Maybe you should visit the doctor and check this? They might now why your nose is stuffed up. Also in general stuffed up nose causes sleep problems because you can't breath properly.

Oh yeah you're totally right. If my doctor is right and I suffer from sleep apnea the stuffed up nose is only going to worsen the sleep disorder.

I feel like a zombie today. I slept from 11-4. I know most people would be tired only getting five hours asleep but that's typically my norm. I'm seriously fighting to keep my eyes open. I had to go to work this morning and I feel like I'm in a fog. Who knows, maybe my body is just changing especially after the hysterectomy and I need more sleep. But definitely the congestion has to play a part. I'm afraid to go to a regular doctor and they'll just hand me an antibiotic. I think it's either chronic sinus or allergies both of which I know can cause extra fatigue. And yes, sleep disorder could play a part as well. I think if I go to the doctor an ear nose and throat or allergist I'd have better luck with over a family doctor.

How much sleep do you average a night? Do you have to get a certain amount or else you're groggy throughout the day?

. This sucks so much. Do you need to go to work or you can work from home?

I'm working from home but I'm going with my younger niece to a few places around 11 and I'm leaving now to run a few errands.

This has to be something allergy related. I'd know if I had a true infection based on the symptoms. You can tell even based on discharge, for as gross as that sounds, lol. Allergy is always clear while infection is cloudy/yellow/green... mine's totally clear and this has been going on for weeks too... if I had a true infection it would have changed symptoms by now. Plus, I got two hives on my arms the other day.

It could be like a chronic sinusitis too (would fit the facial pressure) but not the classic bacterial sinusitis.

It's interesting because I've been very busy since this morning... had to run a couple errands, picked up my younger niece at a friend's house and we went a couple places... I've noticed that the tired/heavy feeling in my face and eyes isn't as bad.

Now that could be for two reasons

1. If this is remotely neck related (because I swear every muscle in my neck and jaw is locked up with tightness) the movement and being out, getting better circulation has loosened things up in the eye/forehead area.

2. If this is sinus related, being out and about has opened up my sinuses and I know this is actually true because they feel open, the passages, not blocked, even if I have the post nasal drip stuff... it's definitely not blocked.

So yes, I think it could be a combination of tight muscles in head and neck combined with sinus/allergy issues.

Who needs a doctor when I can figure this stuff out?

I'm going to work on loosening up my neck muscles/jaw and will use a holistic nasal spray for my sinuses. We'll see how it goes.
