The Harold/Louise Appreciation Thread--Because she was willing to become a chef just to stay with him

So here it is! The much-anticipated-and-intensely-longed-for Harold/Louise Appreciation Thread.

First discussion can be about their professional relationship. Like the title says, Louise and Harold just can't work without one another. Wherever Harold goes, Louise follows--even if it means changing her career completely, from a nurse to a bagel-maker. That's true loyalty, no?

Neither even seems to think of going into business with someone else. Because he always wants her in particular to be his right-hand woman? Or because she doesn't want to have any other boss but him? It may never be known, but either way, it's adorable. ^_^

Thanks for starting this, Lemony! They're so much fun together.

That always cracked me up! Poor Louise. But, yeah, that's definitely loyalty. She could have done anything, but she stuck with her boss in his time of need...and temporary insanity.

I'm still waiting for the Harold/Kirsten Dunst LookaLike Appreciation Thread! I demand it!

How about a starter question for everyone: What's the funniest Harold/Louise moment for you?

Don't tempt me! I'll warn you that I am probably just insane enough to actually make that thread.

That's a tough one! I have to think about it a little more. But for now, even though it's not a Harold/Louise scene necessarily, one of the funniest lines in reference to the two of them I think is:

HAROLD (trying to promote his bagel shoppe): Enjoy the fine tastes as yet to be discovered in this state. Made fresh this morning by trained medical professionals, mind you.

I love this scene:

[Cut to Dr. Abbott's practice. He enters and starts giving orders to Louise.]

DR. ABBOTT: There's still too many chairs in the waiting room, Louise. I said ten chairs and I meant it.

[He hands her his scarf.]

DR. ABBOTT: We need to redo the color coding on the patient files by Friday at the latest. And ah, get a copy of the seating chart for the recital, we don't want any surprises like last year, oh and ah, get me some coffee, will you?

[He walks into his office and closes the door. Louise works up a bit of courage.]

LOUISE: Good morning, Doctor Abbott!

[He quickly opens his door, amazed.]

DR. ABBOTT: Good morning, Louise. Was there something...

LOUISE:
When you say "we", do you mean "we" or do you mean "me"?

DR. ABBOTT: I'm sorry?

LOUISE: "We" need to redo the color coding. Do you mean "we" or "me"?

DR. ABBOTT: Well... "you", I suppose.

LOUISE: Then, I'd appreciate it if you'd say "could you please have the folders redone by Friday, Louise?" And further more, I was not hired to make coffee. So... if I choose to do so, it will be on a case by case, personal favor basis. Is that understood?

DR. ABBOTT: Yes, Louise.

LOUISE:
You're the one who told me my lack of assertiveness was limiting my career potential.

DR. ABBOTT
: Oh, now I only...

LOUISE:
So I signed up with Dr. Trott.

[He realizes. She hands his scarf back.]

LOUISE
: You can hang your own scarf.

[She looks pleased with herself and walks back to the counter.]

DR. ABBOTT: Oh, no.

Yes, yes, of course, everwoodfan52! (I have to start learning you guys' real names to make addressing less awkward-sounding. ) That's a classic Harold/Louise scene. I love how Louise ultimately returns to her passive, obsequious ways after Dr. Trott leaves too. Thanks for posting it!

Hi, Betty! As of late, I'm simply going by Lemony on the internet! It's the name of one of my characters, and an easy one to associate with my username, huh?

Hee, exactly. Didn't last long, did it? Thank goodness for Harold.

I wonder how they met, how Harold ended up hiring Louise. It seems like they've worked together for years and years and years. Loyalty!

Louise probably worked for Harold Sr as well.

I was thinking that too. She'd be very young. Maybe her and Harold were learning the tricks of the trade at the same time and that's how they grew close.

I was under the impression that Edna was Harold Senior's nurse, and when Harold Jr. and Edna had their falling out, Harold replaced Edna with Louise...then again, I've also agreed with you guys in that Louise and Harold seem to have a long history together...*tabernacles fingers in deep thought* Perhaps Edna was Harold Senior's nurse, but Junior had to have his own and hired Louise when he first joined his father's practice?

That's a good possibility. Especially since Harold and Edna would be unlikely to get along, maybe Harold ended up hiring another nurse just so he wouldn't have to deal with his mother. And I'm sure Edna LOVED having Louise around, heh. Poor, young Louise, caught in the middle even then.

Another really funny Harold/Louise exchange:

[Cut to Dr. H. Abbott's office Louise walks in.]

LOUISE: What are you all doing here?

CAROL:
They're in a doctor's office, deary, they're here to see the doctor. Heh.

[Dr. H. Abbott and Herbert walk out of the examining room toward the waiting room.]

DR. H. ABBOTT: Louise?

LOUISE:
Dr. Abbott, I came by to water, Frida. She's our fichus. Did our insurance get reinstated?

DR. H. ABBOTT
: Uh, yes. Yes, it did.

LOUISE:
So why didn't you call me back into work?

DR. H. ABBOTT: Because I assumed you were still in Barbados.

LOUISE: Barbados?

DR. H. ABBOTT:
Or Bermuda. Wherever it was that you chose to vacation this year. In any case, you've clearly returned early and with a lovely tan I might add.

LOUISE: I'm confused.

DR. H. ABBOTT:
Of course, you are. It's the jet lag. Go home, get some rest. I will call you when I need you. Mr. Jenson, you're- you're up.

[Dr. H. Abbott tries to get Louise to leave.]

HERBERT: Well, uh, you know, thanks a lot, Harold. And, uh, look, w-we'll see you back at the house, OK?

DR. H. ABBOTT:
Yes, can't wait, Herb. Goodbye, Carol.

[Herbert and Carol leave. Louise and Dr. H. Abbott are standing by the door.]

LOUISE:
Do I really look tan to you?

[Dr. H. Abbott looks speechless after Louise's remark.]

Ah, yes!! How could I forget that scene? One of the most indicative of their romantic ship, no matter how blink-and-you'll-miss-it it is.

Hilarious moment, Betty. Harold looking speechless while Louise looks hopeful is one of the funniest things that can happen in a scene.
