Episode Discussion #420: Goodbye, Love

Goodbye, Love

Monday, May 29 9/8c

Quote:
The whole town gathers at the funeral of one of Everwood's most beloved citizens to celebrate a life well-lived. After the funeral, Amy (Emily VanCamp) begins to rethink her relationship with Ephram (Gregory Smith). Ephram decides he should tell Nina (Stephanie Niznik) that Andy (Treat Williams) has bought an engagement ring for her before she makes the final decision to leave Everwood with Jake (Scott Wolf). Finally, when Andy's father Gene (guest star Charles Durning) announces that his visit is over, father and son have an honest and long-overdue conversation about their feelings for one another.
Tom Amandes, Debra Mooney, John Beasley, Merrilyn Gann, Chris Pratt and Sarah Drew also star.

Rina Mimoun & Greg Berlanti wrote the episode directed by Joe Pennella

How refreshing is it to see Berlanti's name being shown as a writer in this episode?

As an EA fan, I'm one happy camper because he is the only one that knows how to correctly write and construct EA so I can guarantee we will get some fabulous EA stuff as a result. Bring it on! It couldn't come at a more appropriate time. It also appears as if the EA dance scene from the promo is, indeed, happening in this episode (some thought it was in the series finale) because the pic of that dance scene is displayed as being affiliated with this episode. I can't wait.

I also look forward to the Eugene/Andy and Ephram/Nina interaction.

This should be an absolutely fabulous episode due to one name: Berlanti.

Wow, this looks like it's going to be a terrific episode, and I expect that it will be an emotionally powerful one. I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

I thought that Andy and his father already had a serious discussion about how they felt about each other...

I thought that too Crow when I read the summary. But maybe it will be even more serious and deep. But I was quite satisfied with the amends that they made in 419.

I'm excited that we'll be getting more from Andy and his father. I was hoping that they wouldn't just tie up the entire storyline in one episode. I do think their last convo in 419 was a nice one and tied up so many things, what I'm looking for now in 420 is the application of their words exchanged in 419. Before the series ends, it will be a nice feeling just knowing that Ephram and Delia's paternal Grandfather is now very much in the picture.

Yeah, most definitely. With Berlanti co-writing it (or in my book writing it ) this episode has to rock just based on that fact alone.

Berlanti on board certainely means amazing writing.
Rina can wrote pretty good episodes too so I think the episode will be amazing and sad and we'll regret Berlanti's involvement with the show for the rest of our lives...

Yeah, Rina is definitely a good writer. That should have been her title all along. The thing that troubles me is even with her good writing skills, I don't believe she has good experience with writing EA. In fact, if you go back throughout the entire series and check out the episodes Rina has written, they are far from being EA centric. Those episodes were devoted to Berlanti, Green and Taylor.

So thankfully Berlanti is in on this one and with that, we can be assured that EA have some decent screentime, thankfully.

Well, if I recall correctly, Rina did wrote "The Reflex" which is one E/A Centric episode... but I don't know if she's the one who wrote the E/A scenes.
She also co wrote "The last of Summer" with Berlanti and "Home" with Michael Green which were amazing episodes.
Finally, she wrote "For every action" all by herself. There were nice E/A scenes in this one.

I am confident that this episode will be excellently written. And the description indicates Amy rethinks her feelings for Ephram which means, at least, a little storyline devoted to them. If I remember correctly, there was also a description saying Amy realizes Ephram has always been there for her while they remember something from their past. I hope it's in this episode !!!! I can't wait !

Yeah, I read in various article tonight was the finale too... how can they be so stupid ?
1. They're advertising the finale as a "season" finale instead of a "series"
2. They mess up the airdate so everyone who isn't as informed as us is confused...

And some people ask why we're mad ??? WB, show a little respect for this show !!

ETA : just read this new description on the tvguide hot list

Quote:
We who love this town have suffered two losses. First came the news that the series won't be returning in the fall, followed by last week's heartbreaking episode in which Irv died. Tonight, Irv's friends and family gather for his funeral and remember him via flashbacks. Along the way, Amy sees Ephram in a new light; Nina has a similar revelation regarding Andy after Ephram tells her a secret about his dad; and Bright and Hannah, brought together by their grief, discover that they still need each other.
So, it seems we will get flashbacks and Amy will see Ephram in a new light while remembering the past years ? oh Berlanti, I love you for that !!!!
we will have greenies scenes tonight, , feel the enthusiam !
