County High Cafeteria #44 (General OT): More Good Conversation, Crepes, Plus Some Dutch Cheese!

New thread! Hopefully everyone is enjoying the long weekend while...I work. Stat holidays are fun, though. Double the pay, double the fun, double mint gum!

Thanks for the new thread Grant.

Yes we did have a lot of snow here. I don't remember so cold and difficult winter since I was a kid. It was snowing at least once a week and it snowed for whole night. As a result there was always snow on the roads. It even snowed on 1st April - it was like a whether joke .

Betty, how is going the vacation? I saw that you posted in the old thread.

Snow on April 1st?? So is it still a lot colder than usual then? It's interesting, because Canada in general seemed to have a much milder winter than I can remember.

Did you go skating in the ice around town?

Hey, everyone! As you can tell, I've been super busy with work and the like, but I wanted to stop by and say hello, see how everyone's doing. Hope you're all having a great Easter!

Grant, I have no coordination at all , so I wouldn't go ice skating or skiing . Especially counting on the fact that I have prescription glasses and I can't do anything without them (except sleeping) and there is always danger to fall on the ground with them, which is not something that I would like very much .

It's not super cold, excluding the snow, it's normal spring. In the summer I guess it would be really hot though. We have cold winter and hot summer here.

Hello Lemony!

Betty sounds like you have very good time there! I wouldn't expect you to be posting here either.

Betty, I'm so glad to hear that you're having such a great time! Can't wait to hear about it and see the pictures! Continue having a blast.

Nice to have you stop by, Lemony. As always, hoping that busyness is good busy. If so, keep it up!

Ha! Aw, that sucks about skating and skiing, Koni! I guess you'd be falling more than Ephram? Are you near-sighted or far-sighted? I've had glasses for about 12 years now.

Actually I have glasses for nearly 12 years as well . I realized that I needed them after I finished 7th grade.

I have myopia, which means that I'm near-sighted. I have low myopia though (well now it's low, there was a moment when it was moderate, but the last time it turned out that my myopia diopters have sunk while my astigmatism diopters have been doubled up), so this is not my problem entirely. I have astigmatism and that's actually what makes me wear glasses for everyday activities. No matter how near the object is, I can't see it clear because of my high astigmatism. I see everything blurry. I can't even read a book without glasses.

The bad thing is that I had a regular medical check up (we have annual check ups arranged from the company) and I realized that I've raised my diopter again, so when I'm walking on the road, I have to be very careful. For working on PC is fine though, so for now I won't change my glasses. But yeah I'm still young and I change my glasses every two years, so I don't know how I will end up . If you ask the computer - I have high myopia (about -6,25 diopters) and mild astigmatism (about -2.5, which I have even now).

To be honest I haven't tried ice skating, because I suck in all sports - I just know that I have no coordination . I don't know how much I will fall, but it would be at least as much as Ephram.

What about you? Is it serious or you are wearing them only when you read or you are in front of the PC?

I don't have myopia, but I failed my vision test for driving.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend/Easter!

I mentioned a few days ago that my sister and I were throwing our dad a surprise party for his 60th. Well, he was surprised! He got some kickass presents, to boot!

It was awesome to see everyone. There was about 40 people family members there.

Here are some pictures from Saturday.

Us three.

Dolphins!!!

Just as long as he didn't hit the big screen in the background.

There's a lot of videos that I wish I could post!

Great looking family, Dolfan! Looks like ya'll had a great time.

I have horrible eyesight as well. Have had contacts since I was about 11. Have never worn glasses, but I have astigmatism now and it's getting more and more uncomfortable to wear contacts, so I might eventually have to make the switch.

Dolfan, it seems like you had a blast and I guess your father was really happy and surprised. The pictures are really good.

Taryn, did you try toric lenses (they say that they cover up to 2 diopters astigmatism plus 8 diopters myopia or 6 diopters hyperopia and they are soft lenses)? I can't wear contacts - I just can't remove them from my eyes. The last time I tried, I had to go the hospital to make them go away and well it wasn't good experience. I want to learn to wear them, but I will need to take at least month away from work. Plus I don't want to wear them constantly - only when I'm out (pubs and bars mostly). At work I prefer glasses, because I wear specific ones for protection from PCs. And since I wear my glasses constantly, I have also good UV protection and contacts can't give me that either.

The lenses are better for peripheral eyesight though. I have problems with this - I practically can't use it since it's not in good shape.

Yes, I wear toric lenses now, the astigmatism finally got bad enough that I had to switch to them a couple of years ago. They just get dried out so much faster than regular lenses, they're not as comfortable.

Funny you should mention not being able to remove them - I've been wearing contacts for 25+ years and these toric lenses are the first ones I've ever had trouble removing. It must be something about them. Sometimes they feel like they're glued to my eyes! I've figured out to wet the tip of my finger with a little saline solution first before trying to remove them.
