That's all I have to say. No, but seriously, between Treat's monologue and the Reverend's monologue, I was a blubbering basket case. Be back later for a more in depth...analysis. Heh.

You know, both Mr. and Mrs. Keyes are...not very likable in this episode, but both actors are both still able to make the story work. Reverend Keyes definitely becomes more and more likable as the series grows on. His final appearance is, like, the epitome of likability.

I like that in Amy's fantasy, there's a specific mention that the Broncos suck. She must not be a fan.

I like how much Ephram is really trying with Andy in this episode. He's so sweet.

Damn Good scene between Abbott and Brown in the bar. Andy's a wise man. That's why he has a beard, I guess.

I thought I'd get to this before Betty does, hee: those guys phoning Amy about Colin...I still don't get it. She's one of the most popular girls in school. Her brother is Bright, also super popular AND one of the tough guys at school. Colin, as portrayed in the show, was THE most popular guy at school. I just don't see it happening. If nothing else, though, it proved that Ephram is surprisingly strong for such a scrawny guy if someone pisses off Amy.

"Mrs. Marpole couldn't have figured this out. This took work..." Andy, you sat in a frickin' bar and the bartender mentioned something about free-range chicken. That is NOT work, heh.

How soon Amy forgets (like, later this episode for instance) about the little speech she gives Ephram about how he's been there for her and them not becoming strangers.

Harold and Rose rule. That is all.

Okay, there are two things that I love about the final church scene beyond the obvious. One, the shocked lady behind Andy that keeps opening her mouth in shock at every revelation, turning to her left and right to gossip with someone. Two, Irv's award-show like smile when he loses out to Andy. You can tell that he's seething inside that someone beat him out, hee.

I wonder if Treat ever submitted this as an Emmy episode, because man, he is a force in this one. That scene in the church is incredible acting.

Now where have I heard this opinion before?

Mrs. Keyes is ridiculous in this episode. Talk about airing out your dirty laundry!

One of the major reasons that I was not very fond of Amy this season.

I'm going to watch this episode tomorrow.....I watched the end of "Guns" tonight.

But Treat's reactions to her are so hilarious!

Not to rush you Betty, because there isn't one and I've taken my time too (and I still have to watch "Guns" as well!), but just reminding you.

Some thoughts on the Episode:
  • I love when Andy tried to explain the church service to Delia....."Don't look at me. It wasn't in the program. "
  • They should have introduced Mrs. Keyes to Topher. Her demeaner in Andy's office was as cold as a fish.
  • Kayla becomes more despicable as the season progresses. She is the epitome of a snob.
  • I liked Wendell. I wish that they had kept him on the show.
  • I love the way Blake Neely's music helps to make a scene even more moving...especially the part when Andy was speaking to the travel agent. He was trying to find the words to respond...the music added so much to the scene.
  • Harold trying to feel the rhythm is so hilarious.
  • Ephram was so sweet to Andy this entire episode. Loved the "Christmas gift". How adorable was it when he said that it was Delia's idea.
  • You beat me to the punch, 'Tos. In the real world....those guys would never have mocked Amy or Colin.
  • Poor Andy was so excited when he diagnosed the Reverend's allergy. But no one cared!
  • Reverend Keyes was kind of rude to Andy....practically shoved him out the door!
  • Nice Amy/Ephram interaction in the mine. Sweet kiss.
  • Beautiful, moving monologue by Andy in the Church....such a good actor.
  • Amy pissed me off on the bus...as if Ephram wasn't going to notice that she avoided sitting with him. Hello, Kayla #2.
  • Harold and Rose are such a beautiful couple.
  • There are 9,000 people who live in Everwood. Do they all fit into Reverend Keyes church?
  • One thing that always bothered me.....Andy gave Mrs. Keyes the airline tickets to Florence. She can't use them! Julia and Andy's names are on the ticket. Airlines don't work that way.
  • I hated the way Amy snubbed Ephram outside of the Church after he asked if she had seen Colin.

Seriously! And I never liked that he gave them to Mrs. Keyes. I get why he did, but it never seemed like the best choice. Harold and Rose are right there! Sure, Andy didn't know the history about Rose almost going to Italy before Harold proposed to her, but he does know that Harold was thinking of taking Rose there, and that Harold was hiding behind his "maybe next year"s that could run out someday. Why not give it to them?

And Amy's treatment of Ephram are going to get much more fun for you, Betty. We have officially entered the Evil Amy zone, hee.

I never thought of Julia's and Andy's names on the tickets to Florence. But hey, he wanted to be nice.

Like all episodes before I this, too! We got amazing scene of which I'll tell you a bit.

Ok, the first one will be a stupid one (at least for me it was). Ephraim kissing Amy in the mine. Is he crazy or what? I know he's 15 and he's too mature in all the episodes and maybe that's why I hate him kissing Amy in this scene... She's totally sad and down because of Colin, Colin is supposed to wake up really soon and he kisses Amy. Sorry that it bothers me that much But IMO it has destroyed so much between them.
But I loved him asking if they still will be friends when Colin wakes up finally. I so get his fear of loosing her after his dad helped Colin and it made me happy to hear her answer She's at least in this scene amazing.

Then there have been so many heartbreaking scenes in the episode:

First of all Andy in the church. I totally had tears in my eyes. In this scene we for the first time get to see how 'dead' Andy's inside. It has been 8 month and he still doesn't know how to be happy or enjoy life again. Life doesn't make sense to him any longer.
But I thought he has to think about Delia and Ephraim and they should be the reason for him to finding his way back again.

Another touching scene was Amy going to see Colin the first time after he woke up. I still don't get why nobody told her that this would most likely happen.

So I'm really curious how this SL will continue because I know that I've missed lots of episodes about Colins recovery.

I have a feeling this is a really unpopular opinion, but I really, really did not like Rev. Keyes "hope message" or whatever he called it. A minister, of all people, should not be telling his congregation that he saw a man crying out to God for answers and getting none. That just bugged me.

Haaaaated Mrs. Keyes. Geez lady, you think your ATTITUDE might be what's turning your husband off instead of your appearance? I felt sorry for Andy once I realized what had him so upset about them splitting up, but otherwise felt like sending Rev. Keyes a You're Better Off Without Her, Dude card.

It's already been covered, but the guys definitely would not have prank called Amy about Colin waking up. That was just cold. Love that Ephram was ready to kick ass though.

He was pretty dumb to kiss Amy, and it may have been childish of her to have whatsherface move into her seat, but I understand her not wanting Ephram to sit with her on the way home. She needed time to process what had happened and what it was going to mean for them.

Amy's daydream about Colin waking up was so realistic. Not realistic in the way that it could really happen outside of a soap opera, but realistic in that it's such a teenage girl thing to be dreaming about and planning out and all. And even though she "should" have been prepared for what really happened when he did wake up, I think the reality of it was just too much. She could no longer pretend that he was hearing everything she said and understood everything but just couldn't respond, she had to face the fact that she was a stranger to him. I think the fact that they had grown up together and had shared memories from their childhood probably made it that much harder too. Hubby and I grew up together, and there is something especially intimate about being able to say "Remember the time in fifth grade when...?" Amy's not going to have that with Colin anymore, and that's a hard thing to deal with.

Do you know what? When I watched I also felt very uncomfortable for Andy and I'm sure he didn't want the others to know about it as well... Who wouldn't have felt totally awkward in such a situation?

Same here, that's why I didn't even mention her in my post above! She's really horrible and also in real life I hate these kind of woman!

You definitely have a point there but I assume I would have liked it more to not get this scene at all... The next day she at least talks to him again and without this scene it wouldn't have been to awkward.

Woah, I have thought about it a lot but not one time out of this position... You're so right with what you've pointed out.

Random observation: it's pretty neat that you two are watching most of the episodes around the same time.

As a huge Andy fan, this is both such a hard scene to watch..and kind of a great one to watch (because Treat rocks it). Hard because, yes, you've got it, he really is dead. He's putting on a good face in public, but he's still the heartbroken man from the Pilot that doesn't know how to live without Julia. He's full of regret, guilt, pain...other bad emotions, heh. And he can't go back into that fantasy world of talking to Julia anymore. So it's just him, he's all alone. Which is why while I find Ephram justified in his dealings with Andy, he should know after "The Great Doctor Brown" and Andy's episode talking to Julia in public that his father is extremely broken and alone, and maybe that he's making things worse by being a huge asshat to him and yelling at him all the time. Those moments where they do bond are so huge to Andy getting his life back, because he can actually connect with someone and lessen some of that loneliness. When Ephram and him do connect instead of fight in these early episodes, it basically gives Andy a reason to wake up in the morning and want to live.

Andy is clearly the real dark prince of Everwood, heh.

Heh, seriously. And look how awesome Rev. Keyes becomes without her! Best thing that ever happened to him.

Hmm. Great point. I do think that us fans sometimes overlook what Amy's having to deal with because of some of her behaviour. Like that moment where she says something like, "Of course you would remember your sister before me" in a way that seems to bring Colin down, it seems like a little bit of an unlikable moment. Just like the scene where he can't remember her, or she sees that she's just one amongst many descriptions that he needs to write down, though, it's yet another moment where Amy is absolutely crushed that she can't share that history with her boyfriend anymore.

Yeah, ITA, Tos. And IMO it's not only her behavior which makes us forget about the whole mess of the situation... She often is so normal and simply as a teenager girl her age is like. It's hard for me to explain but in some episodes I totally forgot about Colin.

And same about Andy... His speech in the church comes really surprising. The viewer doesn't thing something like this would happen. The last episodes he was so normal 'outside' and you could assume he's over her and better now but this moment in the church again showed us that he beyond being ok.
