I've mentioned it in the past but I LOVE this episode. I love the interactions between Bright/Delia, Bright/Edna, Andy/Ephram and Ephram/Amy. This episode just screams classic Everwood to me. It was like we were one of the townspeople who stayed at the Brown's house while watching the classic Andy/Ephram fight.

This was one of my favorite episodes as well, Dolfan. :)

Here are some of my thoughts on the episode.

• I don't like the way Jacob railroaded the whole Ephram move to NY...calling the headmaster....all without consulting Andy. Andy was a non-factor.
• Nina is so wise....."It doesn't mean a dam thing unless you give it." (opinion)
• Funny line: "My name is Amy...I never do anything wrong and I have perfect skin."
• Something that always bothered me: Why would Ruth think that Ephram was phoning Delia? Doesn't she live in the same house? I Wonder who Ephram was phoning.
• I love Ephram in a shirt and tie....very handsome. However, I just can't pictue him wth a friend named Scug.:lol:
• What a showoff Jacob was....on the piano.... and how adorable was Delia the whole episode....loved when she and Bright first met...this was the first time we saw Bright act sweet....he actually had a sweet side!
• I honestly don't know why Ephram started a fight with Andy in the kitchen. He's the one who's leaving....so why is he yelling at Andy? I always felt that that fight was forced and out of the blue.

• Can someone tell me how a town of 9 thousand people only has one cab and one snowplow?
• Snow stuff? Why did Rose and Harold expect Andy to know about that?
• I love the porch scene (Ephram and Amy)....so cute the way it was obvious that Amy did not want Ephram to leave. "Is that your pitch? so sweet.
• I don't understand why Ephram never wears gloves.
• Amy/Delia interaction was sweet....adorable the way that Delia was worried about Bright.
• I loved the Andy/Ephram talk...so glad that Andy opened up to Ephram about how he felt about him.
• I wonder what Amy meant when she said to Ephram, "You've been different." In what way? Don't you love the way she looked at Ephram after he said that he wasn't leaving? She was crazy about him.
• I liked the way that the ending of the episode tied up the reason why Julia wanted Andy to move to Everwood. I was also very pleased that Jacob and Andy made peace and that Jacob gave Andy a little praise. He definitely needed that.

I've always wondered if this is what Mimoun/Berlanti hinted towards in their commentary for "Home". They said, when Andy told Ephram about Julia's wishes, that now 2 people knew about it. Were they talking about Jacob or Nina? Cuz, while she didn't get specifics, she did guess that Andy moved to Everwood because of Julia so...?

I thought that the 2 people that they were referring to were Andy and Ephram. :shrug:

.. Well, I was hoping to have just a few thoughts about this episode because I'm so late getting to it, but (1) it's such an amazing episode and (2) as usual with this show, I just don't know how to shut up.

That is so true. Many times Ephram opens up a conversation with a chip on his shoulder.....snaps at his dad....and Andy doesn't know what hit him! One example I noticed recently while watching my Season two DVD....It was the second episode...Ephram was pissed because of that stupid ugly Julliard guy telling him that at best he would be a Lounge player. Poor Andy had to receive Ephram's wrath. I found this line so hilarious by Andy: "I don't know what just happened here. I was just making soup." :lol:

As I said in Turf Wars, hubby and I watched this one last night.

I think it was just supposed to be a Big Deal because he had been every bit as good a surgeon as Andy (just in a different field) and now he would never be able to do surgery again. So he was being pushed off the pedestal of Perfect At Everything and probably didn't know how to handle that.

I was crying during Bright's surgery and it's all because of Harold. The way he kept stroking Bright's hair and keeping him focused somewhere other than his abdomen? Fabulous.

Amy and Delia were so cute together, talking about the hardships of being the little sister. I know it's been said before, but WHY did they not cash in on the two of them together more?

My favorite throwaway moments this ep -

Irv hiding behind his newspaper when Edna was storming around the diner, hee! I laughed for five minutes.

Bright: "Just reach in there and shake the velociraptor right in her cage!" Haaaaaaaaaa. Hubby and I had to pause it we were laughing so hard.

Nina: "On a scale of one to ten, how do you like your honesty? Because I want to tell you I think you're an idiot, and I'm not sure how much to sugarcoat it." Bwah!!!

Oh and BTW, I totally would have eaten one of those waffles. They didn't look burnt to me. They need to back off Andy and his cooking.

Oh, you didn't have to say that much about this episode... :look: But back on it again!

First of all... :yay: Ephram told Amy that she hurt him when she said what she said the episode before and he really exactly told her that this also caused him to think about leaving. The scene on the porch of the Brown't house was great! When Amy said something like 'Everwood has great snow' I waited for her to say 'I am in Everwood' but on the other side I'm glad she didn't because I'm sure she knew she'd have been able to make him stay by saying something like that. Amy finally recognized that not everything is about her. Great!
And how happy she was at the end when Ephram told her he wouldn't leave! :in_love: Really good Ephram/Amy moments this episode. :nod:

Finally we got some Nina again! :yay: When they went for the blankets she finally told him not to do what Ephram wants. And yeah, to be a parent doesn't mean to always be nice! She's so right.

Andy telling Ephram why he need him to stay was totally touching! And there you could see that Ephram if he wants or not loves his dad a lot. I still can't believe that Ephram thought Andy would want him to leave.

Delia was so sweet in it. And she has a crush on Bright. :D So cute.

I also loved Edna. :lol: She made me totally laugh, first when Delia told her she'd give a party and the second time when she arrived at the Brown's house. :lmao: She's simply amazing!
And Bright being afraid of her. :lmao: Cracked me up!

I don't ever remember a time when Nina did not give Andy excellent advice. She was so wise every time that she talked to him about parenting and she could read Andy so well...especially his fears. She usually advised him to face his fears.
Nina was very helpful to Ephram as well. The only person that she often couldn't help was herself.

I LOVE how happy she is when she finds out that Ephram isn't going anywhere. She's all smiley and cute and it's just very adorable. :D

It's a great episode for comedy, which is interesting because there's a lot of darkness and heaviness too! You already pointed out some of my favourites with Edna, Bright and Delia, Kris!

ITA. :nod: It's so strange that she were able to always give the best advices to Andy but why the hell did she always doubt at herself? When she talked to Andy on her porch she was like 'I'm never sure what's the right thing for my kid is' and so on... She should be so much more confident because she really is a great mother!

I always love episodes where the writers/producers manage to combine these two things that well. I think it's very hard without making the episode unreal... :)

:nod: That balance between light and dark, comedy and drama, is probably what makes Everwood so unique. A lot of shows try to have that balance, but I think that Everwood succeeded at it more often than not, while most shows struggle to keep that balance going. Like that moment in the pilot where Andy and Ephram are yelling at each other, Ephram saying he wishes Andy was dead and Andy saying he wishes that too and it's very dramatic and dark, a few seconds after, Andy goes, "I run a tight ship" and there's a little bit of comedy even after such a dark scene! It's really impressive that the show could balance things out so well considering how dramatic and dark the show could get at times!

Another comedic part of that dark scene was when Ephram was yelling that his mom would never have taken them there and said to Andy, "You grow this ugly beard"...and then Andy replies, "I can't believe you don't like the beard!"

...and then Ephram almost wrecks his bike trying to drive away mad (pedal away? bike away? whatever) - I think that makes me laugh more than the "tight ship" comment. Which is also hilarious. So, yeah.
