Incidentally, I didn't realize there was actually a music thread. Cool! We should have discussions! Discussions about TV music are fun.[/dorking out] __________________ Even in a perfect world where everyone was equal I'd still own the film rights and be working on the sequel

| That is an excellent, and surprisingly difficult, discussion question. Right off the bat I'd have to go with "Cathedrals" from Home and "A Day" (Inara George) from The Perfect Day, but after that it gets trickier. Although I don't like the song, I'd also include the montage set to Deb Talan's "Forgiven" in The Next Step, just because I love all the scenes used. But, sometimes the montages just felt extraneous to me, like the one with Ben Folds' "The Luckiest" in An Ounce of Prevention. The scenes don't really add anything to the story, and while I love a couple of other Ben Folds songs, this isn't one of them (it's not even my favorite song in the episode). Of course, there are probably some S1 or 2 montages that I like that I'm just totally forgetting since I haven't watched those seasons in about a year or two... __________________ Even in a perfect world where everyone was equal I'd still own the film rights and be working on the sequel | |||

I happen to also love "You & Me" by Lighthouse (Getting to Know You) and "Steady As We Go" by Dave Matthews (Foreverwood-2). I'm a sucker for sappy, hot Amy/Ephram moments! | How about Top 10 Musical Moments? The first that come to mind for me (in chronological order) would be: 1. "Leader of the Band" - Dan Fogelberg (The Great Doctor Brown). My mother was excited when this song came on at the end of the episode, as Fogelberg was always a favorite of hers; by consequence, I was raised with a considerable knowledge of the Dan Fogelberg catalogue, and this song was a bloody brilliant choice. Fathers and sons! Music! Living in Colorado! Spot-on. 2. "Cathedrals" - Jump Little Children (Home). The pinnacle of Everwood's achievements in montage...ing. 3. "The Things We Do For Love" - 10cc (The Last of Summer). This is not my favorite older song used in the ep -- that honor would go to "Oh Girl" by The Chi-Lites -- but it's an awfully cute choice for the scene in which it's used, wherein Delia and friends manipulate lifeguard Bright into rescuing them. Repeatedly. 4. "Independent Women, Part 1" - sung by Bright (Just Like in the Movies). Bright + Destiny's Child + karaoke = looooove 5. "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" - performed by Ephram (Shoot the Moon). This is one of those scenes I sometimes forget about, but with which I fall in love everytime I see it -- a rare, brilliant moment between Ephram and Harold. Why weren't there any more of these, show? 6. "A Day" - Inara George (The Perfect Day). Such a lovely conclusion to a lovely episode. And, snow! So much pretty snow! 7. "Wandering" - Ben Folds (Connect Four). Sometimes I think they wrote the B/H relationship just based on this song, it is such a perfect marriage of lyrics and scene. 8. "Bella Ray" - performed by Ephram (Lost and Found). I feel a little funny including a made-for-TV song that an actor pretended to play, but...who cares. Ephram's transition from reluctance and fear to sheer joy is a beautiful thing to behold. I love you "Lost and Found"! 9. "A Sorta Fairytale" - Tori Amos (Truth). Because, you know? The scene just wouldn't be quite painful enough without a little depressing music thrown in, too. 10. "Good Enough" - Sarah McLachlan (Enjoy the Ride). And here is why: years and years ago, before Everwood even existed, I wrote a story in which one character knows that her best friend is depressed because she's listening to Sarah McLachlan. Thus, I always crack up at Bright's method of dealing with pain. It's a quirky list, to be sure, but there's just something about the meshing of music and scene in these ten that stands out to me. __________________ Even in a perfect world where everyone was equal I'd still own the film rights and be working on the sequel

This is not in order, because, well, just like the season list, I have absolutely no idea what's first or last, but I guess at least I know what's on the list! ![]() 1. "Jump Little Children"-Cathedrals (Home). Oh, I remember so vividly watching this the first time and how blown away I was. I think this not only is Everwood' best montage, but it's probably the, or at least one of the, best montages I've ever seen. Everything had a purpose. I got a bit fed up with some (key word: some) of the montages later in the show because they were just thrown together, but this...everything fits and it's perfect. 2. "My Beloved Wife"-Natalie Merchant (Where the Heart Is). Harold and God. They go together like Ephram and piano, Andy and that beard, and Hannah and funerals. I thought this was quite an understated choice, a nice undercurrent that doesn't distract from the Harold's words, but the sentiment is clear and it adds to what's going on. 3. "Miles from Nowhere"-Cat Stevens (Pilot). I like the song. Heh. I think it's a great intro to the town of Everwood. A great transition from New Yawk to Everwood, and obviously the title and the lyrics aren't very subtle, but it totally fits. 4. "The Only Living Boy From New York"-David Mead (For Every Action...). Again, not very subtle lyrics or title to go with the scene, but I think it's understated, and greatly leads up to the kiss. Amy is frickin' HOT in this scene, btw. At least on an hottest Amy moments, I'd know what would be first. ![]() 5. "Trouble"-Kirsten Hersch (The Unveiling). I think this fits much better than Cathedrals would have had it stayed there. Love it. 6. "Fields of Gold"-Eva Cassidy (Goodbye, Love). Let's just say that this song, that scene, and me watching it=me going into a nervous breakdown. It's not pretty. 7. "Foreverwood-Blake Neely (Foreverwood). I don't know if a selection from the score is cheating, so I'll add another song to the list, but see my comments for #6. This gives me chills just listening to it, and it's one of the main reasons that I still have only seen that final scene straight through a total of...one time. I think it's the perfect goodbye from Blake Neely, and the show. 8. "How it Ends" -Devotchka (Getting to Know You). Awesome for Jake deteriorating at the beginning, even better for the montage at the end. It fits so well as a song about a loss of hope, as we see at the beginning, and then as one for hope as we see at the end. I don't know how it does both, but it just does. 9. "Bella Ray" - Ephram (Lost and Found). Ephram can generally play anything and I think it fits with the scene, but this one stands out so much. 10. "Ruins" -George is Jones (Foreverwood). I really like this selection because, again, I think it's quite understated. They could have gone with something really cheesy and overpoweringly "OMG look at how special these two are!!!", but they go for something smaller, and it makes the whole sentiment of the scene stronger because of it. 11. "Steal My Heart Away"-Van Morrison (The Great Doctor Brown). Again, understated. It sparks emotions, but then lets the scene play out without overpowering it, and not just because the volume is turned down. You get that double punch of emotions from the scene and the song. Great blend. Agh, so many other songs too. That took me forever to compile and I don't think I'm all that happy with it. ![]() __________________ “[People] talk to me about these characters as if they’re real, and they’re not real, but they’ve become real...I really think, shows like this one, you have an attachment to them. Excellent list -- don't knock it as being "obvious and cliched," because these are the most remembered songs for a reason! "Beloved Wife," "Fields of Gold," and "Ruins" all made for terrific and, in the first two cases, utterly heart-rending moments. This topic is so entertaining. I keep having ideas for more discussion questions, heh. __________________ Even in a perfect world where everyone was equal I'd still own the film rights and be working on the sequel

Especially the first two for me. Hehe, wasn't trying to put you on the spot or anything, but since you had mentioned four, I figured you might have more too. Looking forward to the additions. It must be really late over there! | Supreme Fan ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | 10 Memorable Everwood Musical Moments. 1.You Mean Everything To Me" by Shawn Mullins. (A Thanksgiving Tale) Beautiful gesture by Ephram to make that CD for Amy. Beautiful song. Beautiful smile by Amy as she listened to it. Beautiful scenes of the town of Everwood as people decorated for Christmas. 2."Cathedrals" by Jump Little Children. (Home) Very moving ending to Season one. Song fills you up with so much emotion……fear, sadness, hope. 3."Get Together" by The Youngbloods. (My Brother’s Keeper) This song is a classic song of the Vietnam War era….just beautiful. I loved the way it set the tone for meeting Linda and explaining the history of Edna and Harold and her abandonment of him. 4 "At Last" by Etta James. (Blind Faith) Beautiful song. I love Amy and Ephram’s dance. I enjoyed the sideward glances and smiles of Andy and Ephram toward Linda and Madison…..preview of things to come. 5."Winners & Losers" by Social Distortion. (Fate Accomplis) Very powerful song. I love the way the camera lowered onto the beautiful NYC skyline. I love watching Ephram’s joy as he walked down the street (I tried not to think about what was to come) 6."How It Ends" by Devotchka. (Getting To Know You) Great song. It was appropriate for every scene in which it was the background. It perfectly fit Jake's despair as he fell into a drug and Alcohol stuper. It was a perfect backdrop to Amy(reading postcards) and Ephram (trying to walk off his frustration) and Nina (falling into Andy’s arms at the end of the episode). 7."You And Me" by Lifehouse. (Getting To Know You) I was waiting for this scene all of season 4! This is a great song in any context. It fit perfectly with the action in this scene. 8."Fields Of Gold" by Eva Cassidy. (Goodbye Love) What can I say about this song…..beautiful, moving, perfectly emphasized Edna’s heartbreak. 9."Ruins" by George Is Jones. (Foreverwood-2) I love this song because it’s so beautiful. It was perfect in the mountain scene with Hannah and Bright. So moving was the unselfish love, everlasting love that was depicted when Bright and Hannah embraced on top of that mountain. The song just fit so well in that scene. The song has build up quality to its melody…..and in Amy’s dream…..there was a build up to her realization that she was in love with Ephram. The song was perfect. 10."Steady As We Go" by Dave Matthews. (Foreverwood-2) This is a very powerful and hot song. Ephram and Amy’s dance was very powerful and hot. The song/dance/feelings went perfectly together. __________________ I should give Leo a as well.Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit, Wisdom is knowing not to put it into a fruit salad. | Supreme Fan ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Great list, Betty! I forgot some of them, so it was nice to be able to go Alex's great Ephramy Soundtrack and check some of those out. "You Mean Everything to Me" sounds just so Everwood to me for some reason. I think it's the voice, but more than a lot of songs, it just says Everwood to me. It's kind of got that folksy small-town quality, if a song can have a small-town quality hehe. Love it. "At Last" was tough for me to leave out and I'm really glad you included it. Every time I hear it in any situation it feels like the first time I've heard it and it blows me back. Perfect in the moment on Everwood. __________________ “[People] talk to me about these characters as if they’re real, and they’re not real, but they’ve become real...I really think, shows like this one, you have an attachment to them.
