Yeah, I didn't watch as many of the S2 eps, since by that point we knew the DVDs were coming out and that they'd contain music substitutions, but what I did see didn't stand out too much. Probably because there are very few songs in S2 to which I was attached, and those that I did love (like almost everything in The Last of Summer, and "September"), I knew would never make it on the online cuts or the DVDs, anyway.

Something else I noticed, actually, was that the music seemed to get worse as the series progressed. The S3 subs weren't too bad, mostly generic and inoffensive, but the S4 subs that I remember were hideous. Like they ran out of money and just started bringing in musicians who they found waiting outside to audition for American Idol or something. Eesh.[/music snob] Though, I went in with a pretty strong attachment to much of S4's music, so that didn't help. I haven't watched my S3 tapes as recently.

In the first episode of S3 (For Every Action),"The Only Living Boy in New York"(the David Mead version) and"Long Way to Get" were in the WB.com episode.

Since they used the David Mead cover(that is also on the Everwood soundtrack CD)and not the original Simon and Garfunkel version, that is probably why they were able to use it.

I didn't get a chance to see the ABC Family reruns,so I wonder if they had music replacements as well?

The original music was intact on ABC Family. That's when I first started to watch Everwood.

Season 2 replacements

Hi Everyone,

Ok...so I am through seasons 1 and 2, and the first 2 episodes of Season 3. There was a ton of music replacement in Season 2. As I'm sure 'Tos is learning, there were some episodes where ALL of the music was replaced. Too bad they couldn't just put a special feature in the DVD that would list all of the replacement music. That way maybe us fans wouldn't be as offended at the replacements. Some of Everwood's replacement songs are very good. As I enter the last 2 seasons of Everwood, I'm going under the assumption that there was the broadcast version, but that the online (wb.com and ABC Family) and DVD versions have the exact same songs...with the exception of season 1. I still have not been able to identify everything. But here are 4 ID's I made from Season 2. Please note I am doing it by episode, timestamp, original song, DVD song, and scene description:

Ep: 2x04 East Meets West
Time: 0:00
Scene: Andy walks in on Ephram studying
Original Song: "Bend and Not Break" by Dashboard Confessional
Replacement song: "Home" by McClain

Ep: 2x09 Just Like In The Movies
Time: 25:57
Scene: Amy and Tommy in record store then sitting on bench
Original Song: "Bluebird of Happiness" by Mojave 3
Replacement song: "Nobody Town" by McClain

Ep: 2x17 Unfinished Business
Time: 42:59
Scene: plays briefly as Amy and Ephram walk on Main Street in Everwood
Original Song: "A Song For You" by Alexi Murdoch
Replacement song: "Central Park" by McClain
(NOTE: I saw a post about this song on a yahoo questions forum. It has the lyrics "i walk through town to Central Park....catching my breath as I picture you across the street...")

Ep: 2x22 The Day Is Done
Time: 42:03
Scene: Andy's dream sequence when he sees his family
Original Song: "Please Don't Pass Me By" by Jack Harlan
Replacement song: "High School Football" by McClain

All 4 of these songs by McClain can be found on cdbaby.com on their "The Ivy EP" release.

A further note on the music guide I am working on:
Right now I have some glaring holes in my music guide as there are some songs I have not ID'd both in the original and DVD/online releases. AND I missed the first 6 episodes of Season 1 so right now I have no way to ID the replacement songs because the DVD has the original music. So I have to wait until the Wb.com puts them back up again online. My goal right now is to have some kind of finished Definitive Everwood Music Guide put together in the next few months. The other decisions i need to make is whether to include the names of pieces every time Ephram plays the piano (even for a few seconds) and whether or not to include a lot of the music from the diner scenes. A lot of it is just instrumental bluesy type music which is near impossible to identify.

Thanks for everyone's patience and i'll keep you posted. Please feel free to ask any questions you have.

Great job on finding out what isn't on the DVD and the replacement songs as well.
I have been slowly comparing my S2 DVDs to the original WB episodes that I have on DVD,so this is much appreciated.
Aside from the music replacements,I'm glad that the episodes themselves are uncut

I didn't get a chance to see those episodes, but the WB still has the episodes on their servers and if I do I search I might be able to find them. If I do,I will post the URLs for you.

I found the first 6 episodes of Season 1,still on WB's servers but they just remove the URL from the main website.

This is where I found all the URLs....

everwood Video - Find Internet TV

However, after a few minutes it will go to the commercial and not come back to the rest of the episode. Still haven't figured out how to make the whole episode play though.

It does the same thing for me and I still can't figure out how to make go past the 2:30 mark. I will keep trying and if I find a solution,I'll let you know.

Look for the episodes that say Dailymotion, those are the same ones as seen on the WB.com and don't have the commercial cut off issues.

Thanks so much for the update, EWMusicJunkie. Good luck with all that you're doing and keep us updated, because it really is a worthwhile project. The replacements are hard enough, but doing a comprehensive list of the songs that are typically missed from the originally airings is amazing too. Did you have anything to do with everwoodmusic.com, by any chance?

And thanks for helping, Chuck. I'm also glad that the episodes are uncut. From what I can remember others saying, weren't the ABC Family episodes cut down a little bit?

If it isn't too nearly impossible, I would be interested in knowing more of Ephram's piano pieces.

As would I. I'd also be interested to get some confirmation on the violin piece played when he walks through Juilliard in "A Mountain Town" -- I've thought for awhile that it was part of J.S. Bach's "Violin Partita No. 3 in E Major," but I'm not sure, and getting someone else's thoughts on that one would be great.

Thanks for everything you're doing, EWMusicJunkie!
