Everwood Melting Pot (OT3) #51: Cultural Exchange
EVERWOOD This thread is for discussing different cultures and customs around the world. Current events are welcome. Political-related discussions are allowed. We enjoy the atmosphere and peaceful environment. We know that sometimes in the heat of the moment there's temptation to cross the line so we would kindly ask you to follow the rules below: 1. Discuss opinions and ideas. Do not bash people. 2. Respect the opinions of fellow posters. 3. Attack ideas. Do not attack people. 4. Accept that someone having a different opinion does not mean that they hate or dislike you. They just disagree with you. 5. If you feel that someone shows any disrespect towards you, please do not engage in arguments. Contact us and we will handle it. 6. Most important of all... we need to be open-minded and show respect for our fellow posters. We thank you for reading and hope that you will have fun posting here! ~ Michelle & Betty |

It is amazing when you look at death rate % for the countries hardest hit whether we're talking just hardest hit in general or they have so many people so they're going to have a lot of cases... Italy is nearly 10% whereas US, South Korea and Germany are very low, .4 - 1.2.
One chart shows 10 countries' current coronavirus death rates, based on known cases and deaths. Italy's is highest: nearly 10%. It is unreal how vastly different the numbers are. US, Germany and South Korea are doing an incredible job. I feel so sorry for people in Italy. Even Spain, UK and France have higher percentages I wouldn't be expecting. I don't know why this is. Population (so many people in small spaces?) Technology? Maybe a combination of both. |

I couldn't even believe what I was hearing. He sounds crazy. I am not remotely a fan of Tucker Carlson but even he looks completely blown away by what he was hearing. Last edited by jediwands; 03-25-2020 at 03:16 PM |

We are fortunate here in Minnesota. Governor Tim Walz is really good. He is being commended by all Minnesotans no matter the political preference (even though Minnesota is largely Democrat). Governor Tim Walz is a Democrat but Republicans are even commending him for his compassion, fight for the state, and just how he's taking care of the state in general. He's really taking a terrific approach. According to recent polls, Minnesota is basically #1 in the country for following the social distance rules, etc. Some of that is the culture here in Minnesota, family values, etc. But a lot of it is Governor Tim Walz leading the charge and faith and trust in the leader. It really helps when everyone is united together.
We need this throughout the country. We have to be united at the state level and also as a country. We will get through this. Hopefully Dan Patrick will never win another election. |

What all this has done is expose Trump and the Republicans for what they are: Totally devoid of any humanity and only caring about the bottom line.

I feel I'm among friends here so I'll be honest: There are parts of me that are Conservative and I do want our economy to be strong, and I wish that more manufacturing jobs could be brought back to this country to make us stronger and strengthen the Middle Class. There are also parts of me that are Liberal, especially because I'm Pro-Union, but sadly, most of the corporations in America now have their manufacturing done in places like China due to the cheap labor, and most states now are "Right To Work" states. You know what 'Right To Work" means? It was a union-busting tactic which basically means a company can fire you at any time for any reason, or for no reason. My father was able to retire at 58 with a comfortable pension because he was in a union, but I'll have to work until I'm 70 and still worry about having enough money to retire on because I don't have a pension and I'm not in a union. The Democratic Party and the Republican Party have become parties of extremes, with the Democrats to the extreme left, and the Republicans to the extreme right. There's no room for moderate candidates now, so for someone like me, who tends to be somewhat middle of the road and moderate, there's no where for me to turn. __________________
