I don't know what he said. I'm not really familiar with this player...only know him from his behavior at the end of last year's super bowl, but he seems to piss everyone off!

I just think Cam is a very immature guy that still hasn't grown up. Maybe the sponsor drop/s will help him become an adult.

Interesting. I had no idea this was happening in Europe. It doesn't surprise me, though.

Yes, that's what I said above... he's been very careful about being "politically correct" when it comes to racism which is perplexing in itself yet he carelessly makes a sexist comment. The opposite should have taken place! He should be speaking out on racism and not opening his mouth with a sexist comment.

I think it's because in his immature mind..laughing at a woman talking sports isn't offensive. He really is a baby.

He really is. He simply hasn't grown up. Remember when he went nuts after he lost in the Super Bowl? He left the conference. Just super immature. He was so convinced he was getting a Ring and when it didn't happen, he had no clue how to handle the loss. He has ups and downs... when they lose he's miserable and snappy, when they win he's on top of the world and arrogant. There's no balance with him. He was feeling relaxed and happy since they just won and the arrogance and lack of filter just came alive with the sexist comment.

I was done with him after his temper tantrum when the Panthers lost the Super Bowl. He's an immature arrogant jerk.

Yes, I couldn't believe what he pulled after the Super Bowl.

Apparently the people around him he issued an apology:

Translation: After being rightfully reamed out in the media for my offensive and sexist comments and after losing a major commercial deal with Dannon, I'm using this opportunity to try and make amends, although I'm not sincere at all and everyone knows it.

But, like I said in another thread I have to learn to pick my battles and language very carefully. One thing that struck me about Europe is that it is quite racist, xenophobic, and sexist but somehow they think of themselves as more enlightened then those lowly Americans and I just want to scream internally because the issue is global not local. People like trump are getting elected throughout Europe.
I think that it's your to do so. I don't think that sexism or racism gets fixed by people keeping quiet. No. On the contrary. People should say when something bothers them.

The issues are global . One thing that I think did Europe really bad joke is the overall society. I think that in USA people emigrated earlier on and as a result had to deal with racism earlier on. In Europe the process started later and I think that in most places they now have to face this and deal with this. The problem is that they do not want to admit it. Most people isolate themselves and do not even think how someone might get offended or react to something.

Let me give you example. Remember this joined team that we have? Well in the French part of the team there is mix of cultures - one guy from Madagascar, one guy from China and a woman from China as well I think. All good and it's normal for people to say that they are not from France. A former co-worker had to work with the guy from China. So when she would talk about him instead of mentioning his name she would say something like "The Chinese boy" (it was not even a man). Someone jokingly told her that this is racist and she got really offended. I told her that in general they are correct. The guy would not want to be referred as "Chinese boy" because he has name. Not only she did not get how this is racist, but she also got offended when people tried to point out why this is racist.

She also sometimes makes xenophobic comments that I dislike. For example when we were in Italy we saw two guys hugging each other in the public transportation. Usually when I see such things I just move along. I do not like people making out in front of me no matter the sex they have (just at some point goes into live porno territory and I feel uncomfortable) but for anything else I just see it and continue. She started commenting there, then she would mention it to everyone like it's something so unique that has to be discussed. But again she would not see how this might offend people.

. I think that this is where culture plays a part in it. Like you said in your country this is not normal and people know that this is not normal. So you know that whoever says it really does it on purpose and of course you would not see a point in talking to that person. You know that they really mean it. In my country this is not always the case. Sometimes people really do joke in a bad way and when I tell them that they crossed a line they apologize and do not do it again.

It is offensive to me because you don't hear it out loud in this country. No doubt, there has to be other players like Cam who feel like he does... they just don't talk about it out loud like Cam did. So that's why it's shocking to me and it's offensive.
Agree that considering this setup it's offensive .

Quote:
One of the things I like about this country... especially in the workplace... harassment, sexism, there are strict laws in this country. I mentioned before how floored I was hearing about the ex French friend and what went on in her workplace. So much sexism my jaw was on the floor. She literally thought it was normal and not very offensive. I was sitting with a Canadian friend as we were hearing stories and we just couldn't believe what she was saying transpired.
You noted something very important - she was OK with those things. For her this was not offensive. And that does play a part I think. For me this is where USA and Europe differ quite a lot. I am not saying who is right or wrong here. I am just saying that there is huge difference. An american woman I believe would feel quite shocked or offended in most of European offices. On the other hand European man would feel weird in American office and quite often would be WTF are they talking about.

Quote:
Her own boss calling her dress hot and telling her she looked sexy that day. Even saying he wanted to have sex with her! Her very own boss! If a boss in the US or Canada remotely acted like that and it was reported (which it usually always is) walking papers would be given immediately.
This is definitely not OK. At least in our country. We do not have laws like you do, but definitely such behavior is not encouraged and that guy would get reprimanded at least if the woman would report him. The thing is would the woman report him? Truth to be told there are women who actually play up their sexiness at work to get what they want. And this is why sexism exists. I know women that dress sexy at work and use this to their advantage to manipulate men. It's a two ways street. If a woman puts a mini skirt at work, people would look. And I am saying this as a woman. Just like it's inappropriate to talk about sex at work, it's inappropriate to dress like that at work unless you work in that special business. Some women want to be noticed at work by their looks and not their capabilities. This matters. People focus on what you show the most about yourself. I rarely have issues with how I am treated at work because I focus on my work and not how I look. I am confident with what I do and people notice this. The compliments I get at work usually are about my work, not about my looks. Now true looks are not my best and I am just normal regular person so there is nothing to say there , but still I do not get treated like beautiful woman that got where she is because of her looks. I am treated as smart person that have enough experience. And if someone disagrees with me, it's because they just disagree with me, not because I am a woman.

Do you have regulations about this in your country? For example is it normal to have dress code or stuff like that? I am just curious because I have the impression both of those things do not exist in your office. Meaning that women dress appropriately at work and men do not cross the line, but I still wanted to check with you.

In Europe I would say that this is not always the case. I see both. I see men acting like a$$es and women trying to use their feminine side (in the most literal sense) to advance at work. Both for me are not OK. I am personally very uncomfortable with objectifying (meaning man to tell me that my butt looks good or stuff like that is something I do not like), but most women around me actually find this hot. In the case you mentioned most women here would see this as a compliment. Basically they think that it's great that someone finds them hot.

Quote:
Or the guys talking about sex during the workday knowing the females were hearing everything.
Yeah that is also something that I dislike. And I would say that this hugely depends on the environment. If you are around construction guys they act like that. At least in my country. If you are in a place like ours having men acting like that is the exception so you notice it quite fast. But then again I have seen quite often the female HR not just encouraging such conversations, but also starting them. And in that case I don't just blame the men, but also the women that encourage such conversations.

Part of the problem in Europe is that there women actually encourage sometimes wrong behavior. And this is why American women would be so out of place in Europe and feel like completely mistreated. A lot of stuff that European women find as normal are not normal for American women. And those women not just encourage men at work, they actually raise also their sons to behave like that. Dealing with sexism and racism happens in the family in the way the parents act and the way they raise their kids. And problem is that quite often people in Europe do not see the need to start the change.

Quote:
One woman was hired and they all had sexual jokes about her behind her back. It was a running joke. That's so inappropriate.
Definitely inappropriate!

Quote:
US and Canada, that kind of stuff is not tolerated in the workplace, thankfully. So that's why hearing Cam talk like that about a woman is shocking and offensive to many because it's thankfully not common. The vast majority of men know you don't say that stuff because the culture here is you will look like an arrogant, sexist, pig. Thus, you don't hear it.
Makes sense .

They do take sexual harassment in the workplace very seriously here in the United States. Once a year they have someone come to our office to give us mandatory training on it. We're getting that training later this month.

This is great! Is it for the whole company? How is it organized? Here unfortunately there is no such training.

Yes, it's for the whole company. They call us all into a conference room and they give us the training. An outside consultant does it. They conduct the training from our home office in Massachusetts, and we have a screen and cameras so we can see the training. Remote employees call in and use Microsoft Go To Meeting so they can see the presentation.
