I smoked pot in High School just to be considered “cool,” and in College I joined a fraternity and there was a lot of drinking involved, but I outgrew doing all that by the time I got out of College. I smoked cigarettes when I was in High School and College but only on the weekends, and when I first started working I’d smoke cigarettes but then they started to bother me so I quit and I haven’t had a cigarette in almost 30 years. I drink a few beers on Saturday nights if I watch sports with my neighbors, but that’s it. I’ll never forget something my father told me once: He said that he used to go to bars with his friends when he was young and drink, but some of his friends never outgrew it and they became alcoholics, and he said you could go to a bar and see certain people sitting in certain stools, and thirty years later some of the same people will be sitting in the same stools.

I have a neighborhood liquor store that has a little bar in it. I sometimes go there to pick up something like wine for dinner and such and it would be around 10 am. There would be people sitting at the bar (probably regulars). Who starts drinking at a bar so early? I find it sad! Go to Starbucks or Dunkin and have coffee for heavens sake.
