Everwood was refreshing. You always trusted Berlanti. Honestly, the fans never had anything to worry about. There was one storyline that was annoying but you didn't feel threatened as far as your favorite pairings or the show in general becoming a disaster as a result. You had complete faith in Berlanti from start to finish. It was really nice.

I didn't like when dawson acted like he owned her in season 3. She's a person, not a trophy, even joey said it herself.

I didn't like it either. At the same time, Pacey boxed her in as well... the ask me to stay crap. Manipulating things at Dawson's aunts right in front of Dawson and on his turf. Pacey was horrible at the end of season 3 too. Joey should have told them both she needed time and space at the end of season 3.

We had double protection... not only did the series and storylines convince us we were fine, but Berlanti made sure in every Everwood interview he was telling us we should watch, relax and enjoy... he announced very early on Ephram/Amy were endgame. He didn't care about spoiling this either. The writing spoiled it anyway so he might as well tell us in season 1 they were ending up together, relax and watch. He constantly talked about how smart Everwood fans were... as a result, he said he'd never dumb down to the audience via the writing/story construction. The fact that he considered the fanbase mature and intellectual, he didn't bother with giving us lame soapy, teenager triangles either. He treated the fanbase with respect from start to finish.

That's good to see that Berlanti did that from day 1.

Dawson's Creek was like his high school experience as a writer/producer... watching the group show great immaturity, bad decisions, etc. He learned from the mistakes. Everwood was his college experience as a showrunner/writer, mastering material, being serious, accomplishing something.
