Everwood Fans who are Dawson/Joey & Pacey/Andie Fans of Dawson's Creek #30: Because Dawson's Creek couldn't hold a candle to Everwood!

This is an appreciation thread for Everwood fans who are also Dawson/Joey & Pacey/Andie fans. For those who shipped these pairings, the series once had such great promise, but ended up being one of the most disappointing series to date. TPTB enjoyed manipulating the heart and soul of the old school (seasons 1/2) Dawson's Creek audience, who embraced the premise and the main pairings of the show; Dawson/Joey and Pacey/Andie fans. The first two seasons defined Dawson's Creek. Season 3 came along and the show simply wasn't the same anymore. New showrunner who essentially mocked the premise, destroyed the main pairings, and was basically just fine with dropping the quality in order to make the series his own. We know the drill. Discussing our main pairings, as well frustrations over storylines, writing, TPTB, fandom in general, is all welcome here.

Note: This is not a debate thread with other ships. This thread is strictly for Dawson/Joey & Pacey/Andie fans to appreciate the pairings and discuss aspects of the show, both good and bad. This thread was originally created to celebrate friendships between a couple of regulars on the Everwood board who, back in the day, posted on the Dawson's Creek board and encountered some terrible fan wars and not so great moments. We wanted a safe place to discuss our thoughts here on the Everwood board. That is how this thread was created. Jerry D, our amazing Administrator, and my very good friend, came up with the idea and the rest is history. For those of you who ship other pairings and don't agree with the content of this thread, of course there's the Dawson's Creek board and other threads scattered throughout Fan Forum perfectly designed for you.

Thanks!

Alternate S5 & S6 : He made a solemn promise he would come and visit her. Hell, he even jotted it down in indelible black ink onto the crisp pages of her brand new journal while wearing a big toothy grin on his face, but regardless, it had been months since Pacey had made any contact with Andie. Andie forced herself not to overthink it and chalked it up to life getting in the way, but the smallest embers inside of her heart that yearned for him still despite everything that happened between them started to prickle at the back of her head. Although once the orientation process at Harvard was over and the real work began, Andie’s thoughts of Pacey Witter were sidelined in order to make room for the mountains and mountains of schoolwork she was receiving on a daily basis.

That was until, out of the blue, Pacey literally came sailing back into her life looking tanned, well rested, and even more gorgeous. Andie vowed to never let herself fall back in love with Pacey, she made an ironclad pledge to herself to never stray back into that hornet’s nest, but his soft, warm gaze pointed in her direction had Andie convinced his heart was remembering the way it used to love her.

She was one hundred percent correct in her assumptions.

The laughter between them settled into a deep warmth and easiness, and they talked well into the wee hours of the night and gradually, the intimacy they once coveted as a couple so long ago had returned to their bodies in triplicate. It started with Pacey’s hand brushing up against hers when she handed him a magazine from a convenience store shelf, which then evolved into their hugs becoming longer and more needy each time they touched. Soon enough, Pacey did the unthinkable, and asked Andie a question she never thought she’d hear again in her life from him…

Pacey Witter had asked her out on a date.

At first, they had both agreed to not invest too much of themselves into the date, stating an urge to take things as slow as they could in order to protect themselves from any harmful fallout, but Pacey and Andie’s mutually intense bedroom eyes that screamed “make love to me.” seemed to tell another story altogether. The immense pain of potentially opening up old wounds over how their relationship crumbled in the past fell to the wayside as Pacey and Andie ended up having passionate, raw, soul searing sex in Andie’s shower. Every single iota of mistrust, devastating heartbreak, and bad memories in their past circled its way down the drain.

And as Andie sat by her vanity, drying her hair and watching Pacey getting ready for bed, she smiled to herself. At long last, she finally felt like she could breathe again.

Thanks for the new thread Michelle!

Dawson's Creek really couldn't hold a candle to Everwood. Even at its Season One best, it still can't compare to Everwood.

I think the thing that I hated the most about the Season Three Love Triangle was how Dawson and Andie's characters were purposely destroyed to facilitate a Pacey and Joey pairing. I also didn't like the double standard that was applied to Pacey versus Dawson, where anything Dawson did was "controlling" or "acting like he owned Joey," while anything Pacey did was "romantic," or "following his heart."

100%. I don't think I've ever heard someone say they prefer Dawson's Creek to Everwood as far as quality. They would be lying if they attempted to go there. We are talking a critically acclaimed series (Everwood) versus a teen soap opera basically. Apples to Oranges.

I completely agree. It was disgusting. I don't know how some ignored what Pacey was doing. He betrayed Dawson's trust, took a favor Dawson requested and acted on his feelings for Joey behind Dawson's back. He couldn't help falling for Joey (it happens) but most in his position would be ashamed and embarrassed over such a betrayal. They would work on dealing with those feelings privately. Or if you wanted to say something, you go directly to Dawson, explain the situation first. Instead, Pacey went behind Dawson's back, kissed Joey, manipulated situations to guilt Joey into accepting romance (such as throwing a fit at Dawson's aunts) along with basically making fun of mental illness and treating Andie like garbage.

Pacey was the true villain of Season 3. Dawson and Andie were collateral damage to his destruction.

Pacey used Will showing up as the perfect excuse to tag along to Aunt Gwens under the fake notion of being with his friends when he admits the only reason he went was to be with Joey, but hey, he was just “following his heart”

In real life, Dawson dumps both Pacey and Joey and never speaks to them again. That’s what makes this triangle so unrealistic. If that precise triangle takes place in real life, there is no happy ending for any combination of that triangle. Dawson tells them both to get lost and while PJ might stick together for a while, soon they’d drift apart too.

There was zero realism with this triangle. Add in the great Pacey/Andie love story on Season 2. How incredibly unbelievable given their story and Pacey’s understanding of Andie mental health that he’d ever turn his back on her and not want to work things out. It just didn’t make any sense.

Dawson’s Creek truly is one of the most outlandish, unrealistic shows ever created. Add in how they all talked like they were starring in a Shakespeare play. LOL.

Another question, would anyone like the idea of Dawson and Andie having a romance after S3, or no you just can’t see it

I wouldn't want to see that at all. If Dawson and Andie ever got together romantically, they would always be reminded of their first loves, and it would be very difficult, if not impossible, for them to get past that. In addition to that, it would have been ludicrous to have every character on the show hook up with every other character on the show. Dawson and Andie would be good as friends, and I would have liked to have seen more friendship scenes between them, but I wouldn't want to see them as a couple.

I mentioned months ago I might not have minded it just to piss off PJ (LOL) but I think I was the only one with this opinion. I would have liked a closer Dawson and Andie friendship, most certainly. In Season 4, it would have been nice seeing them develop a closer friendship.

How do you feel about it?

A part of me feels like that could’ve saved Andie from being written off the show, but I get Jerry’s point that they’d always be reminded of their first loves so it probably never would’ve worked out. I as well would’ve liked to see more of them as friends. I think they did become better friends during that summer, but more scenes would’ve been nice. I did like his talk with her in the graduation episode.

Another flaw of this show was that there were no genuine friendships between a male and a female on the show, except between Jack and Jen, and that was only because Jack was gay, and I think they made Jack and Jen friends to give them something to do once they were no longer the love interests of Dawson and Joey.

Dawson and Joey were friends, but their friendship always had a romantic undercurrent, and once they got together romantically, their friendship effectively ended. Dawson and Jen were a romantic couple twice, and you saw very few friendship scenes between them. Pacey and Joey went from being enemies (or frenemies at best) to being a romantic couple. I wouldn't really call Dawson and Andie friends, although they did console each other to a degree after Pacey and Joey got together, and then Andie was written off the show. The show really did a poor job depicting friendships in general, but especially male and female friendships.

.
Thank goodness Jen stopped them from hooking up in Winter’s Tale, that might’ve ruined the nice friendship they had. I agree, they did a very poor job of male/female friendships.

I'll take your word for what happened in A Winter's Tale. I never watched it and I never will.

Yes, I would have liked to have seen it. Jerry’s absolutely right. Oh yes, anything that could have kept Meredith on the show. I’m still furious over what they did to the character of Andie. It’s despicable.
