No it wasn't. It replicated a desktop, circa the early 2000's, where you could click on different icons and go to different areas of Dawson's interests. There was also a part called Dawson's Journal where Dawson would muse on what had happened in the previous episode. It was a pretty cool way of keeping up with the show between episodes.

Here's a link to some information about it:

Incredible. I had NO idea this existed. Was this around for the entire series run? I guess this is also why there was such a strong social media presence. I remember some PJ fans were discussing letters Pacey wrote to Joey or like a diary about their (ridiculous) time on the boat together. Did that come from the Desktop too?

I think that it was around for the entire series run, but I'm not sure because I had lost interest in the show after Season Four and although I still watched it, it was more out of habit rather than really being interested in it, so I stopped checking out the "Desktops."

Yes. Initially "Dawson's Desktop" was the only "Desktop" but later on they created "Desktops" for the other main characters and they would take turns: One week it would be Dawson's Desktop, then Pacey's Desktop, then Joey's Desktop, and then Jen's Desktop, etc. I never checked out any of the other desktops to be honest. I just knew that they existed.

For example: NikNak's (Nikki's) signature comes from an entry on Joey's Desktop.

Interesting. Was this talked about on the Dawson’s Creek board? I am shocked I never knew it existed, lol.

Oh my gosh, I always wondered about her signature.

Do you know when the site was taken down?

Not really. Everyone was too busy fighting!

Yes, that's what it was from.

I honestly don't know. My guess would be shortly after the show ended.

I’m so glad in looking back that I never found the site because I think if I would have it would’ve made me even more attached to the show.

It definitely makes sense why they probably wanted the lame triangle. They had the site and the attempt was to have more personal interaction with the fans. They probably loved the drama and absorbed the comments. They might have even had someone lurking on . They were just completely clueless and relied too much on the Internet fanbase thinking it spoke for the majority. Truth is, non-Internet fans make up the largest group. The largest group wanted DJ and PA. I guess they didn’t realize it since they were too focused on loud PJ fans.

This desktop thing sounds like a way to keep the fans interested when the series was on hiatus. I can also see where it would take some of the weaker minded viewers and play into their fantasies. Like a P/J'er making believe he/she is best friends with Joey or Pacey and vicariously live their lives though their hero or heroine.

I would have liked to read Andie's desktop if she had one.; the summer she spent in the hospital between seasons two and three.

I bet she was surprised to find out she was unfaithful. So out of character.

They didn't have an Andie's Desktop that I can recall. I think they only did it for the four original main characters.

I will never forgive the writers for making Andie unfaithful (you’re right, Tony, so out of character) and how they messed up mental health in general.

They truly wanted to destroy the beautiful story that was created in S2 between P/A.

They really did. What they did to Andie was a crime.

Yes they did. They didn't even try to hide it. Like you said, they truly wanted to destroy. They knew they had to because if they didn't, PJ couldn't happen. I don't know what the writers were thinking because I refuse to believe that early on they never thought to eventually put PA back together even if they were creating PJ. I don't know if they thought they could write their way out of the cheating and still reunite PA. I just don't understand what they were doing. Were they that thirsty for PJ that they could only see short-term and not long-term? It's really what it seems like.

Even though I wasn't that invested in Andie (I liked her but was way too distracted with the Dawson and Joey drama), I always thought that storyline with Andie cheating was one of the worst character assassination storylines that I've seen. It was completely out of character. At that stage I was still a casual viewer and I remember thinking "wow where is this coming from". So even for me as a casual viewer at the time felt that it was really random and it just didn't make sense given how the show presented Andie's character before that happened. She was this bubbly, quirky, smart girl that was deeply in love with someone. They obviously had to make her look bad so that it would appear as though Pacey was upgrading with Joey . I also think it was poor writing to use her mental health issues as the reason behind the cheating. If they really wanted to break them up, there were SO MANY other ways they could've done it without using contrived storylines and sacrificing the reputation of Andie's character. For example she could've moved to another country (as she did with her Italy move) and told Pacey he needs to let go of her so she can rebuild herself after the breakdown and if their paths were to cross again then it was meant to be (perfect arc to the finale scene with them having coffee-their paths have crossed again). They could've emphasised that even though it was painful for her to do it, she is letting him go because she loves him so much that she doesn't want him to waste his youthful years on him waiting for her to get better when she doesn't know when that will happen. So Andie looks selfless and mature, and Pacey is given an open path to pursue other relationships.

Anyway, I feel for the Andie fans. It's a pity what their favourite character was put through just to pave the way for PJ... I'm sure you all already know my utter detestation for that couple but here is another good reason why that pairing was wrong in so many ways even in ways which did not directly impact DJ.

I honestly think that Kevin Williamson being brought back to write the Series Finale was just a publicity stunt and he simply caved in to Paul Stupin's suggestion to "surprise the audience" and have the show end with Pacey and Joey, but in doing so, he destroyed the entire premise of the show that he created, and instead of surprising the audience he insulted and disrespected the audience.
I honestly think this was it. Or at least a significant reason for the ending. Shows often like to do series finales with something happening that the audience wouldn't expect. The 'wow' factor. Although I think most shows don't do this to a storyline that they had propped up for the entire premise of the series only to do a 'gotcha' moment right at the end but hey this is Dawson's Creek. That's the thanks they give to their audience (I'd say at least half when you include DJers, PAers, anti-PJers) who had stuck around for six years and basically indirectly financed their show due to their viewership.

Very well said. Another way that they could have temporarily broken them up is to have Andie come back healthy and more independent and not needing Pacey to be her "hero" anymore. They didn't have to take the route that they took with Andie, which truly was, as you said, one of the worst character assassination storylines that I've ever seen. They made Andie into a lying and cheating caricature of a character and they even had her cheat on her SAT's (which, given how smart she was, would be totally unnecessary) and lie about being sexually assaulted, and I'll never understand why they felt compelled to do that to such a wonderful character.
