There is/was a group of fans who when they found out that Josh and Katie dated, they had to be together on the series as well. This group was very vocal and internet savvy. So indirectly they affected the series ending. I also think the availability of Meredith Monroe affected the series ending, and definitely Stupin more so than anything caused the series ending.

Interestingly the same thing happened on Gilmore Girls. Milo Ventimiglia (Jess) and Alexis Bledel (Rory) dated off screen. Which caused a very vocal group of fans to advocate their on screen romance.

I like the thread title. Very apt.

Yes I should clarify, I don't think they had a DIRECT effect but I think some people's idea that when certain characters are couples in real life it must mean they are meant to be on the show. I know Josh and Katie broke up well before the finale but I think some fans may have thought if they didn't get their happy ending in real life that it should happen in the show. Overall, at the end of the day, the call was Williamson's and he chose to go against the ending that made sense.

What a stupid and jerky thing of Williamson to say.

How does he not feel stupid after this? A reunion or movie is 100% out of the question. Even the thought of it makes Williamson look even more stupid having an award winning actress on his show and never took advantage of her talent and ended up killing off her character. Not to mention the money they lost not being able to do a revival or movie. Karma is real.

His short-sighted decision destroyed the legacy of his own show. He's a tool.

I’m so with you. The character was used and abused from day 1 then they finish her off in the series finale. I cannot believe her dying wish was for basically Joey to make a choice. She has a beautiful little daughter she’s leaving, a best friend in Jack she adores, a Grandmother she was so close to they were basically mother/daughter but her dying wish was focused on a triangle that had no business being a triangle in the first place.

She was shamefully used as a plot device from day 1. She deserved a better ending. Not only was she killed off but her whole purpose in the finale was to serve Joey's ending.

That's so perfectly put.

I love that Michelle Williams has had the last laugh as she's now an acclaimed and award winning actress while Katie Holmes is just tabloid fodder, and she's getting to the point where even the tabloids don't care about her.

100% agree. I could understand maybe killing Grams off, but not Jen. It’s my birthday, it’s crazy to think when the show premiered it was during my freshmen year of high school.

Happy Birthday! :birthday:

Exactly right... why not Grams? They even had Grams tell Jen she would see her soon enough. Grams passing would have worked beautifully. The passing of the torch/wisdom... the cycle of life... Grams taught Jen who would teach Amy. I guess they didn’t want to give too much importance to Jen for one... :irked: Two, they were too focused on the dumb, unnecessary triangle.

Right? I would totally like to know what Michelle Williams thinks of Kevin Williamson. My guess is if she’s honest, it would be a colorful response.

Williamson screwed everything up in multiple ways. I think he knows this but would never admit it… What I mean is of course he’s going to say he wouldn’t be up for a revival. What is he going to say? It would make him look dumb if he said he was up for the revival but he can’t use Michelle as Jen. It highlights his stupidity and absolutely reckless creative decisions in the series finale.

jediwands 02-05-2021 04:14 PM

I mentioned before my theory of how he could save all of this would be doing a revival and finding out the series finale was all a dream... Dawson’s nightmare, more like it. It wasn’t real. Maybe Dawson constructed the series finale for a feature film or part of his TV series and he ends up chucking it. Then we get the revival with either what really happened or we finally get the right ending as adults in a true series finale. Jen doesn’t die, DJ and PA end up together.

Of course Kevin Williamson would never think to do something like this.

It was absolutely disgusting.

The series finale was so bad, like I said, reviving the series and saying it was all a dream or Dawson’s creative idea playing out on the screen and it wasn’t real… would all makes sense because what we did see in the series finale was so outlandish it would completely pass as total fiction within fiction.

Thank you! Mary Beth Peil was so wonderful in the role I
think it would’ve worked very well. Honestly when the promos came out for it “ one of these 4 will lose their life” it was so obvious of the 4 it was going to be Jen. It was sad enough to hear her daughter’s father abandoned her, let alone for her to die so young and tragically.

Yes I quite like that idea. Alternatively if they don't want to revive the main 4, they could do a spin off of Jen's daughter as the girl who doesn't have a father and lost her mother and we see how she carried on with her life and we hear a mention of how Joey left Pacey and finally came to her senses and is with Dawson. I do prefer the first option as I want to see DJ play out in front of me but in terms of possibility of which would happen, I feel that the first is much less likely.

Exactly. Why did the show have to keep showing Jen mistreated by guys? Not just men either. Henry and Charlie as well. Consistently pretty much every aspect of Jen’s life wasn’t successful. She has a beautiful little daughter who would be taken away from her early too. Jen is one of the most mistreated TV characters in history of TV.

Ohhhhhh but I love your option too. That would work as well.

That's so true. :(

I really like that idea. :)
