Hannah/Mom

I really have to give her mom a slap in the face. Who let’s someone dad just die and never tell them? Her mom has no idea what Hannah is really like. Although with the Hannah that first came to Everwood, it is really shocking to find that she’s had not one, but two boyfriends. And she has friends and family and all this life around her. I just feel that her mother kept things from Hannah because she has idea how to relate to her daughter, so she just didn’t. And when her father got sick, that just made everything worse. But alas, I am glad that Hannah got shipped off to live with Nina because we all know the history of what’s happened thus far for Hannah in Everwood.

I think when Hannah came to Everwood, she really didn’t feel as though she had a voice to say anything. She was really quiet in the beginning of Season 3 and never really talked to anyone. She had a hard enough time believing that she was good enough for people to want to talk to her. So when it came time for Hannah to make a decision, she let her mother do it for her. But now, with the way Hannah is, she’s got a backbone and she told her mother exactly how she felt. So those few days in Everwood gave her mother an entirely new viewpoint on how Hannah is now and how much she’s grown up and really expresses who she is and what she feels.

Andy/Ephram

Again, can I just say how much I love these two communicating. I find something really awesome about Ephram grocery shopping in Andy’s kitchen. And Andy not giving up the salsa. That’s my guy!

Andy/Patients/Ephram

I really think this father/daughter duo really gave Andy an insight on the secret he kept from Ephram. Maybe not, but that’s how I saw it. I mean the father wasn’t ever going to tell his daughter about something so important. There was a second life in the world and someone that she was apart of. It would have killed her if she found out on her own that she only had one kidney and the reason why. IMO, it’s the same thing Ephram/Andy went through. Andy had no intention of Ephram ever knowing about Madison and the baby. And if it weren’t for Harold telling Amy because he thought she had a right to know, Ephram would have never have known. We all know that if Ephram didn’t know about the baby, he would’ve gone through his audition at Julliard and been in that good, fuzzy place that we all wish we could turn the clock back for. I’ve always campaigned for Ephram to be at Julliard, despite Andy and his bad decision making. But seeing the episodes of Season 4 that I have, I don’t really think that’s really true anymore. Ephram has experienced living in a new way. Before Season 3, well before the end of Season 3, Ephram was so consumed by music. So into getting into Julliard. And he didn’t really factor into anything else. He was half the time a crappy boyfriend, other half a crappy best friend. And both Amy and Bright got it, and they encouraged him to fight for Julliard, fight for his talent. But what about now? Now that he’s living the college life with his best friends and flourishing relationship with Delia and a mending relationship with Andy. Maybe not going to Julliard worked as well for Ephram as if he did go.

But I’ll ask this, maybe we can do this question in another Everwood Discussion Thread:

If Ephram had found out about Madison and the baby after he got into Julliard and had been away for a few months, do you think he would have reacted differently?

Jake/Nina

I’m seeing this as the beginning of the end for Jake as being able to live a normal life as a recovering addict. He is going a mile a minute. He just wants to be everything to everyone. And for Jake, the last time he went through this run as fast as you can and crash didn’t come with a family. He has Nina and he has Sam. Yeah they’re not engaged (hopefully never), but they’re living together and Jake is such a big park of Sam’s life. I just don’t think Jake realizes that his actions has so much affect on the others around him.

Ephram/Reid/Amy

The whole guy code is really weird to me. Do I think Ephram really wants Amy to stop dating Reid, yes. Do I think that Ephram would ever act on his feelings since it’s obvious how he feels, no. And that’s what really sucks. Ephram is so in love with Amy, he can’t see straight and he asks her whatever boyfriend if you wanna call it to stop dating her. I’d love to hear Amy’s thoughts on Ephram asking Reid to stop dating her. Amy thinks there’s something wrong with her when Reid doesn’t want to go out with her. I know Reid isn’t a guy that we would have chosen for Amy. I just don’t like him, and I’ve said that many, many times. But if it were another guy. A guy that wasn’t living with them and didn’t mislead her with weird signals and throw around partner when talking about another dude. Would there be a guy in Amy’s life that Ephram would step aside to in order to make Amy happy. It’s clear that Ephram isn’t ready to go into that Amy girlfriend thing again. But it doesn’t seem like anyone else is allowed to either. So in a way, what would make Ephram happy? Because I’m at a loss for words.

Bright/Hannah

I don’t think Bright realizes how intuitive he really is when he’s with Hannah. He’s talking about God and psychology. Two things that Bright Abbott didn’t even go near in Season 3 and before. They’re did their “I Love You’s” So cute. So sweet. It’s like seeing Amy/Ephram all over again minus all the drama of whatever can happen with those two. It’s just too easy to fall in love with these two. I’ve watched up to episode 4x09 so I know a couple of things in store for them in the future. Well the future past tense I guess.

Bright/Amy/Ephram/Hannah

I just love this foursome. They’re always there for each other. And Hannah going through her dad dying and not even able to be there was huge. She needed that close-knit family. And this is it. They are the future of Everwood.

I totally agree. It was very bad judgment on her part. Hannah had the right to see her dad before he died.
Of course I'm glad that Hannah moved to Everwood...but I never understood the reasoning behind the whole move. I realize that it was difficult to see her father so ill...but I believe that Hannah really needed to be there there with her dad and for her mom.

Yay for Hannah's backbone! And yes, this new Hannah was an eye opener for her mom.

Andy and Ephram were one of my favorite couples...along with Andy and Harold...Andy and Nina....Ephram and Amy....Bright and Hannah...etc etc etc
Seriously...the growth of the friendship and respect of Ephram and Andy is what made this season one of my favorites.

If Ephram did get into Julliard...it would have definitely complicated things. It would have put distance between Amy and Ephram...so...no romance. And you're right..it would not have been fair for Ephram not to learn about his son.

If Ephram had found out about Madison and the baby after he got into Julliard and had been away for a few months, do you think he would have reacted differently?

Excellent question...and a tough one. I think that Ephram would have been just as furious with his dad and just as furious with Amy for keeping this information from him. I believe that he may have actually quit Julliard just to spite everyone. That would have possibly been more hurtful than not going to the audition.

You've got very good intuition, Patricia.

Yeah, that was just too easy for Ephram. Although, I really didn't mind. I did want Reid out of the way.

Yes, their friendship will have ups and downs...but it is a beautiful friendship.

we know that Ephram came back to Everwood after finding out because he had to. But if he were at Julliard a few months, would he stay in New York and disconnect himself from Everwood all together, or would he come home to look Andy and everyone in the face to show his anger?

I think it was cool of Reid to offer to back off from Amy, but it was a bit unfair of Ephram to ask that when he a) hasn't told Amy how he feels and b) when he's not with her anymore. He should tell her how he feels and then let her make her own decision. Reid was right when he said unless Ephram said how he felt there was no point in asking him back off.

With that said, it was so sad when Ephram found out about Amy and Reid. Poor baby. WHY DID HE BACK OUT ON BEING HONEST COME ON.

The Andy case was okay. Not that interesting to me because I just prefer the focus on the main characters. I also missed Kyle this episode weirdly.

I felt so bad for Hannah! Her mom was totally in the wrong not telling her about her father. I understand that Hannah wasn't there for the hard stuff but she should have given Hannah the option to come back when he was dying. Like, what the hell? And how she could she honestly think its what Hannah wanted when she is the one that pushed Hannah to go. So annoying. And now she is going back? Why? She has a good life in Everwood.

Nina and Jake are just so dull. I am just so over their storyline. zzzzzz

The Andy and Ephram talk was SO cute! When Ephram said he forgave Andy a long time ago. awwww.

I also thought it was unfair of Ephram to ask Reid to back off while passively doing nothing about his feelings for Amy. It reminds me of Amy realizing something (gross) was going on between Ephram/Madison as a result of her depression and not being able to be with Ephram. Amy never stopped the EM trainwreck because she realized she was too late at that time. Ephram broke up with Amy in a cold, weird way at the end of season 3, takes off for months for Europe, then returns and immediately wants to reunite with Amy, even telling the guy she is dating to back off. If you think about it... that's not right, lol. As an Ephram/Amy fan I was glad the outcome meant the end of Amy/Reid, however.

The Hannah family situation is awful and totally agree that Nina/Jake are a snoozefest.

Season 4 Andy/Ephram had so many amazing moments.
