In short he is only 27 and has a better ERA than every other pitcher currently on your staff except one, and he is only .20 points short of him. Fuld is a player who was designated for assignment by his previous team which is how y'all got him on waivers. He has been great this year and is a high energy player, I personally love him. He is exactly the kind of player the A's like and needed so I get it but still think y'all easily won the trade.

Big Trade
I think it's an interesting trade myself this is how I see it for each team involved:

Detroit: They got the headliner in the deal with David Price but IMO they gave up a hell of a lot to get him. They gave up a young pitcher in Smyly that could be useful next year when Scherzer leaves in free agency (if the Tigers can't sign him). And then on top of it they lost their starting center fielder Austin Jackson who has been hot of late and shown in the past he can be a stud in the playoffs especially. Not to mention going in to today their biggest need was a bullpen lefty and they got a starter instead. --- Having said all that, it is David Price and it is hard to ignore their rotation now that they have the last three AL Cy Young winners on one team (let that sit for a second), insane to think about. --I give them a B-.

Seattle: I think they did great here. Just great. They got a right handed bat, which they greatly needed and only had to give up one prospect to do so. I would be extremely pleased with this deal if I were a Mariners fan no doubt. - I grade it as an A-

Tampa Bay: Once again they showed why they are contenders virtually year in and year out this past decade. Their front office understands what type of organization they are and functions to that. By this I mean they can't spend big bucks like other teams on Free Agents, they knew they couldn't afford Price and so instead of losing him in free agency for nothing, they now got three stud young players in return. Nick Franklin, Will Adames, and MLB ready Drew Smyly. Of course it stings to lose such a great player and teammate in Price but they made the best of it. -- Grade them at an A.

Detroit's pitching staff is scary. I can't believe their line up. When Verlander is 3rd of 4th in the line up, you know it's scary. But what you said is significant. Quite frankly, I don't even think Detroit needed this deal to contend.

Tampa Bay... when will they be named Montreal something or another? I still can't believe they still have a team and as you pointed out with being constant contenders, it makes it all the more disgusting that no one attends games! I get it... most of those people are retired New Yorkers who still cheer on the Yanks or Mets from afar. But all the more, it's time for pro baseball to go elsewhere so it's appreciated!

Spain is clearly the biggest threat. They are good, filled with NBA talent, even brothers who are close and can play great together... if it wasn't for James in the last tourney, Spain could actually have possibly beaten us. James and Melo and a few other key names are not even playing this next tourney. It does make me slightly nervous.

Aww thanks, I just love it. Today was like Christmas I barely got anything at work done because I was transfixed with the trading deadline, and it was a great one. Best one I can ever remember!

If you had to pick right now two teams in the World Series, who would you pick?

Not significant...but it will give you the opportunity to get back on your soapbox.

The New York Red Bulls midfielder was one of only two MLS players to be selected for the Goal 50 after an outstanding past year for club and country.

Currently in his third season as a Red Bulls player, Cahill was quick to defend the quality of MLS, which has been the target of criticism from the likes of Ashley Cole, who essentially called MLS a retirement league.

“I think it has a massive status in world football, and it was proven with the way the (U.S. national team) did in the World Cup and how they’ve done in the past World Cups,” Cahill said of American soccer. “(MLS) is a tough league, and a lot of Premier League players can come over and think that it’s going to be easy but it’s not. It’s a league that needs to be respected, and also be mindful of the fact that it’s growing every year.

“Over time it will be a massive force,” Cahill added. “You see now in the last week, AC Milan here, Roma, Manchester United, Man City, Liverpool. This is just in the last week. Everyone wants to be a part of American soccer, regardless of whether they’re playing against our league. And (European teams) also want a piece of the action commercially as well.”

Cahill knows MLS isn’t perfect, though, and points to the league’s salary cap as something that is keeping the league from competing with the world’s biggest.

“I feel with the strategy and the structure of the payment plan really restricts MLS, which is a positive in itself because it keeps a lot of American talent and keeps the growth,” Cahill said. “But when you have a team at a cap of $3 million, it’s very difficult to attract the quality of the caliber in the Premier League. Whereas a player sitting on the bench could be on $3 million a year by himself in the Premier League.”

While he is now focused on trying to help the Red Bulls duplicate their success of 2013 this season, Cahill does have one eye looking toward the 2015 Asian Cup in January, which will be played in Australia.

“It’s massive. We’re on home soil and the onus is on us, especially after a good showing at the World Cup,” Cahill said of the Asian Cup. “Japan are definitely the favorites because of the team that they have, and the caliber of players.

“Our players are not really well known, which is great because, like in the World Cup, we got underestimated. A lot of young players, inexperienced but still good footballers.”

When asked which players might follow Cahill onto the Goal 50 list in 2015, Cahill pointed to a pair of 23-year-olds who faired very well in Brazil this past summer.

“I think players like Jason Davidson and Mathew Leckie, they really showed well in this World Cup,” Cahill said. “They’re young, they’re exuberant players. They’ve got a lot of energy, and it’s the future of Australian soccer. It’s bright for Australia.

“I was the oldest player on the team. We had a lot of youngsters so it was exciting times to be part of a great group and really express our way of football and leave our mark on the World Cup.”

The Australians will be looking to build on the buzz generated by the World Cup when they take the field in January, and while they will have to contend with powerhouse Japan, Cahill and the Aussies should have a good chance to lift a trophy at home.

“Now it’s all about us spending time together and helping the growth of the team, and really trying to target an impressive competition,” Cahill said. “If you ask me, realistically this could be the first ever chance of Australia getting any sort of silverware internationally.

“It’s at home, we’ve got a good team, we’ve got a great manager that sees the future and is also very ambitious,” Cahill added. “I’m also quite ambitious as well, and want to leave a footprint on Australian football, especially on Australian soil.”

The World Series is hard to pick but you have to give an edge to the Athletics in the American League with their latest additions. I won't be cheering for them, well unless they are playing the Yankees , but I recognize their rotation is now even more stacked with Lester.

Having said that, their overall record the past three years with and without Cespedes (he has been out injured a lot so it's a decent sample size) is below .500 and they traded him for Lester soooooooooo we will see how that plays out.

Their biggest challengers will be Detroit of course and the Angels in all honesty are quietly making a push here to end the year so who knows!

In the NL the Dodgers are loaded in pitching too so I have to think they are the front runners there but you can never count the Cardinals out.

I just googled Ashley Cole. It's no wonder he dissed MLS. He's one of the biggest, ignorant morons I've encountered and I only looked at a few articles. They're all negative. Look at this one:

Ashley Cole tweets unsettling meme of him stalking ex-wife Cheryl Cole and new husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini - People - News - The Independent

What kind of sense of humor is that? Wow. What a creeper freak.

Cahill is my hero. Cahill's words are good.

Agreed about those teams for the World Series. I still hold out hope being the homer that I am that Cleveland will find a way to squeak in the playoffs and make some noise. Pittsburgh has another chance this season to get in, too. A team I don't have an emotional connection to but would love to see get in is Toronto. It's been forever since Toronto got in there and they have a chance this year!

I just read this about Cole on wikipedia:

Quote:
Personal life

Cole began a relationship with Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Tweedy in September 2004, when they were living in the same block of flats in London.[74] They married on 15 July 2006 in Wrotham Park, Hertfordshire.[75] In January 2008, the couple almost separated after allegations were made that Cole had affairs with three other women. He, however, disputed the allegations and the couple stayed together.[76][77] It was announced on 23 February 2010 that the couple would separate following four[78] new allegations of adultery.[79] Three months later, it was announced that Cheryl was filing for divorce. They officially divorced on 3 September 2010.[80][81]

In 2006, Cole sued the News of the World and The Sun newspapers for libel after they printed allegations that he was involved in a "homosexual orgy".[82] Both papers retracted the allegations. That same year, Cole released an autobiography titled, My Defence, which sold 4,000 copies in the first six weeks of release.[83] Cole's former teammate, Jens Lehmann, criticised Cole for writing an autobiography when he was 25.[84]

Cole has had a couple of minor brushes with the police. On 4 March 2009 he was held after swearing in front of a police officer outside a South Kensington nightclub. He was taken to a police station and issued with an £80 Fixed Penalty Notice before being released.[85] On 4 January 2010, Cole was convicted of a speeding offence committed on 17 November 2009. He was recorded exceeding the speed limit by doing 104 mph in a 50 mph zone on the A3 road in Kingston upon Thames, a residential stretch. His defence at Kingston Magistrates Court, opposing the charge in his absence, argued unsuccessfully that the police speed gun was faulty. Cole also claimed that his actions were excuseable because he was trying to evade the paparazzi.[86] On 29 January he was fined £1000 and disqualified from driving for four months.[87]

On 27 February 2011, Cole accidentally shot a 21-year-old student on work experience with a .22 calibre air rifle, at Chelsea's Cobham training ground. He fired at Tom Cowan, a sports science student, from only five feet away, apparently unaware that the rifle was loaded. Cole has formally apologised to Cowan, and has discussed the incident with Chelsea officials.[88]
Wow, just wow. This is too early in my morning for me. How do you accidentally shoot someone? I can't even. He does this and then still tweets stalker/creeper stuff? This guy is pathetic.

How do you think Cutler is going to do with the big contract? Think he'll play relaxed and efficient?

Thanks for the new thread Michelle!

Michelle do you know where will be held the Wolrd Championship of basketball? In my country the basketball league sucks so I don't have that much of a choice to watch worthy basketball. I might check out this championship.

Talking about football guys will we do this year Fantasy Football or you are not interested? I actually found it more interesting last year as I was more adept what I should do and all that, but obviously it depends if we can find willing participants.

Spain, starts August 30th! You might have a blast watching because I know you like Spain so for the Spanish team to be super good AND host, you might love it all the more. I wish you could also see all of those players on our squad that will be missing. It's a shame... James, Melo, Paul, Howard, Griffin, Love, etc... it's literally like Real Madrid pulling every starter and playing back ups. Like I said, there's depth so it's still a great team but definitely different!

The Basketball World Cup: Who Team USA Should Bring to Spain

^ That's a good article showing all the endless players we are not going with and why Spain is our biggest competition.

I can't get over all the players missing:

Quote:
The U.S. is undeniably Earth's dominant basketball empire, but this year's Basketball World Cup presents some unique challenges that make simply traipsing to the gold medal no sure thing for a depleted American squad.

The first challenge for Team USA: Most of its best NBA players aren't playing. LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Blake Griffin, Kevin Love — the list goes on. Many are resting up for the NBA season with their spots on the roster 2016 Summer Olympics all but reserved already. Some are injured. Others are sitting out for business reasons.
Huge challenge and one that I think the Spanish will look to take advantage of. They have to be drooling over all our stars not participating!

We better... since I have to defend my title.

I think since Dolfan has been MIA ever since the finals last season, he won't be running it again. Shelby, please take over again. All is right in the world when you're in that spot.

I think he's going to be great.

I have no choice but to think positive. I believe in them every year. Cutler isn't my favorite ever but we are stuck with him for a while and he definitely has the potential! I accept it and I think he can do it.

GO BEARS!
