Episode Discussion: Ep #218- "Last Looks"

from thewb.com
Ep #218- "Last Looks"

Airs Mon. April 12, 2004, 9pm EST/8pm C

Against Andy's (Treat Williams) better judgment, ex-sweethearts Ephram (Gregory Smith) and Madison (guest star Sarah Lancaster) decide it would be in Delia's (Vivien Cardone) best interest if Madison resumed her job as Delia's babysitter. Meanwhile, Amy (Emily VanCamp) contemplates going off her anti-depressant medication after Linda (guest star Marcia Cross) suggests she might be ready and Bright (Chris Pratt) anxiously awaits his college acceptance letters.
John Beasley and Stephanie Niznik also star. Arvin Brown directed the episode written by John E. Pogue.

Wow. First I need to start out by saying I may be in the minority but I like Madison I think she has a good heart. I felt bad for her when Delia told her she was going to have to let her go but I was also touched to see Delia stand up for her Bro like that. I loved the Ephram/Madison Scene at the end at least they ended things in a nice way tonight it was a nice scene. I was also very proud of Bright tonight.

That last scene had me bawling. I too like Madison, and I agree that she changed Ephram's life. They were fun together and very witty, but they were almost tragic. Has there ever been a better written male teen on tv than Ephram?

I also cried when Harold met Bright at the school. I knew he was going to be waiting when Bright came out of the dean's office, but I still was deeply moved.

Next week is going to be sad too. I didn't know that Andy was sleeping with Linda.

Everwood is the best drama. hands down.

My favorite part was when Amy threw the pills in the trash can. I hope it signals the return of the Amy we all know and love. I mean I think Amy's great but it's time for her to lighten up. Also the scene at the end had me tearing up, and I don't cry. They were just so sweet together and Madison and Ephram really did love each other. I loved it when he turned around and she was still at the door and she simply waved goodbye and he just got in his car and left. Very sad but also nice at the same time. I wonder if she'll ever return and be an occasional character because I like Sarah Lancaster as an actress.

This was a great episode! All of the issues were dealt with well...really wish Harold would talk to Andy though.

Amy- So proud of her for throwing those pills away. She is really trying to mend the fences with her family and I think she's on the track to really getting better now.

Bright- Just wanted to hold him when the rejection letters started rolling in. I'm proud that he took initiative and went to the school for an interview. I cheered when I saw Harold sitting outside the room waiting for him.

Ephram/Madison- I love these two together and it was great that they were trying to put aside their feelings just for Delia's sake. I was asking myself the same thing Delia was "If you're both sad, why don't you just get back together?" Delia was also very mature in giving up Madison for her brother. Too cute!
The fight at the dinner table was very well done, and it kind of showed how Madison had become a part of the family. Their last scene together...I fell apart. Incredible acting...Sarah Lancaster cannot leave this show.

ITA, that next week is going to be really good. It came as a great shock to me that Andy/Linda were actually sleeping together.
Tonight's episode was a gem! Great way to start the wind down for the season.

'A gem'
I agree Candace.
I think my harshest criticism of this episode is that I'm quite convinced that nothing in the final few episodes (this season) will touch this one, so they'll seem a bit anticlimactic.

My favorite episode of the season, obviously. One of my faves, period.

I've never been particularly anti-Madison or anti-Delia, but they're not tops on my list of characters either. This episode is definitely a strong contender for my 'best of show' for each of them. The scene where Delia 'fired' Madison was pure, bittersweet beauty.

I'm a devoted Haroldite and even his continued refusal to talk to Andy works for me. Yes, he really should try harder to see Andy's side of this... But the writers and Mr, Amandes have been masterfully painting a portrait of Harry as a man who loves few but loves fiercely. If Andy had done something that felt like a betrayal and did NOT involve Harold's kids, that would have been hard enough... however nobody but NOBODY better mess with Harold's kids. That's a double whammy and Harold's sentiments don't just blow this way and that way with the wind. He was terribly upset at Linda when she first blew back into town. It took a while for him to get over it. It would be out of character for Harold to just get over this falling out with Andy in the very next episode. I do hope he gets over it before seaon's end, tho.

I loved the Andy/Nina scene. She is soooo right for Andy!

I too enjoyed ALL the Amy scenes. Like Rose... I've missed Amy. These past couple of episodes it's felt like she's back and I'm glad to see it.

Loved the Bright/Ephram stuff! Just loved it. Bright trying in a teenage-boy way to be understanding but then losing it in the face of his bigger problems. Ephram NOT getting angry but showing concern! Then Ephram doing the pep-talk thing. Just wonderful!

But of course, my fave was Harold/Bright. I include in this the Harold/Rose scene about Bright. He bleeds when his kids hurt. As was noted above, it was no surprise at all that Harold was waiting for Bright... but expecting it didn't make it any the less touching. In fact, one could make an argument that the expectation made it more touching... because you just *knew* the Dad could be counted on. It called to mind a special memory or two of my own Dad.

On a lesser note, as a West Wing fan, I kinda had to love Mrs. Landingham being in the episode too... especially when Delia got her playing 'spit' near the end.

I'd call this one a work of art. I'm gonna have to learn how to program my new VCR because I don't think I'll be home for the rerun on Sunday, and I definitely want this one on tape!!!

I agree. I read the spoilers and nothing interests me about the last few episodes. This was classic Everwood. We got a taste of every good relationship on the show. My heart is breaking for Delia now too. She needs a female in her life.

I feel down, like I lost my best friend just like Delia. There's not a lot to look forward to now that Ephram and Madison are broken up for good.

Well... not *every* good relationship. I'm seriously missing my Edna/Irv and Edna/Andy relationships. And we really didn't get much Harold/Amy although that's more than fine given how much Harold/Amy we've seen all season.

Forgot to say that the Ephram/Delia relationship was great here too. Both of them willing to make a sacrifice for the other! Awwww!

That last episode was to die for!! I bawled! I wanted them to work but it just wasn't ment to be. Meanwhile, Deliah, the little cutie....did you see how sad she was but she was so brave when "firing" Madison! So sad....that very last scene...can't get over it...and she thinks he's too young for her. He was so mature about it! I'm trying to remember the very last line though...I wanted to write it down. The line being said as Ephram drove away. Something about our hearts being crystal and beautiful when shattering...anyone who knows it please tell me!!

Cute episode, definitely an improvement over the past episodes. I feel like we're getting back to the heart of Everwood. Next week looks amazing.

"And that,my friend..."

Did anyone catch this line from Ephram to Bright? It brought a huge smile upon my face....Bright used the exact same expression at the beginning of the season while talking to Ephram.I love their friendship,I really do.So unexpected...

I kind of was mad at Harold for treating Dr Brown this way....but his anger may be related to his sister's condition...so....that's a little bit understandable.

Good ep overall, very well written though it badly lacked some Amy/Ephram or even Bright/Amy interactions.

Wow. That episode was great! I had a feeling that after Amy's depression was mostly over we would have season 1-like episodes back. This is the Everwood that I know and I'm glad its back.

Bright- though I'm only a junior I can relate SO WELL to Bright's situation because I have been trying to raise my grades and I have all this college stress that I won't get in. I'm glad the show covered this because every teenager goes through what Bright went through. I felt so bad for him, I know how much he wanted to get in..at the same time I'm sure he'll find whatever he is meant to do.

Amy- wow once she dropped those pills in the trash I was so proud of her. That was pretty much a sign of telling us that she's back to being Amy. I think she realized that she didn't want to turn out like Colin's mom and that she isn't as bad as her. I felt bad for Colin's mom though.

Andy/Harold- I hope Harold can forgive him. These two are such great friends.

Ephram/Madison- sorry I'm not a Madison/Ephram fan so I was finally releived when it was over for good. However, I will say that I think they both handled it very well at the end. It was nice of Madison to wave him goodbye.

Andy/Nina! They are so meant to be. This was an awesome episode. Looks like it can only get better from here.

I can actually only comment on the last half hour but this is what i have to say

Ephram-Madison scene at end: This scene, although highly predictable, had my eyes tearing, which takes a lot i thought it was very well done.

Delia madison scene: I loved how delia cared so much about her brother, both actresses did a good job with this scene

Amy-Mrs. Hart: I thought it was awesome that the writers show how the harts are dealing with colin's death even almost a year later.

Bright-Harold at the college: Again another very well acted scene. I'm glad harold came through for bright
