Great title, Koni!! Thanks!!

I just back from running errands. When I entered the pharmacy to pick up a prescription...most of the lights were out and I thought to myself, "Oh, NO...a power outage." It wasn't a power outtage...just the pharmacy trying to be romantic today. lol
Then I went to Trader's Joe's to pick up a few things and when I entered I was given a a nice piece of chocolate.
I stopped at Dunkin Donuts to pick up a gift card and ended up buying a heart shaped donut!
It's tough to get away from Valentine's day!

I've gotten away from it easily... haven't left the house today and didn't even remember it was V-Day until you mentioned it.

She came across as this pathetic victim under direct but then when the prosecutor crossed examined, he was so amazing he brought out the worst in her. He brought out her anger, he coldness, her real personality. It was easy for her to appear innocent and sweet when her defense attorney was questioning her. Did Nurmi actually believed her? I mean is it possible that he sabotaged her and himself in the process?

So you did find the book interesting? I read that there was a book. What did you find interesting? I read that actually they still don't know the exact timeline of events. I am not sure that they even know how exactly she killed him. Come to think about it this is the reason why she stabbed him so many times and then shot him. She wanted to confuse everyone. Just like every other thing she did.
She hit on Nurmi, and tried to manipulate him. He asked to leave the case multiple times but was denied. He wrote a book about how horrible his own client, Arias was. He hated her and wouldn't even sit next to her in court, someone always had to sit in between them.

The prosecutor's book was outstanding. He basically tells the entire story from the moment he received the case, evidence, all of that, his relationship with the lead detective, he explains why he questioned Arias in a scrambled way, he would jump from topic to topic so she was caught off guard, and so much more. It was an excellent book.

Yes, victims often want to know WHY. They just want to make sense of it. The sad fact is usually there's no answer. It's all about the abuser. Still, naturally you want answers.

Do you see it every day?
Yes. For the past 17 years straight (not one day off!) I've seen the number 11:11 at least once, sometimes more than once, but at least once daily. It's pretty amazing. Like I said, I don't ever think about it but always see it.

I don't think I'm leaving the house today. Not intentionally, I just have so much going on here... doing laundry, working like crazy, cleaning and I have to stick around because I'm expecting a package. Hopefully the guy or girl won't say Happy Valentine's Day because I'll say I have no idea what that means. JK

Wow . Betty it's fun how you notice that it's V-Day . I didn't have problems knowing because we have Bulgarian holiday (not bank holiday) on the same date. So I know the Bulgarian version because my parents definitely celebrated it when I was a kid.

The holiday is called Trifon Zarezan but you could call it also Wine Day .

Quote:
On 14th of February, Bulgarians celebrate the holiday of vine-growers and wine-makers, known as St. Trifon Zarezan (Trifon the Pruner) – the Bulgarian patron saint of vineyards.

Trifon Zarezan is the traditional Bulgarian wine celebration that marks the time of year when vine-growers trim back their vines.

The holiday marks the dividing line between the outgoing winter and the onset of spring – the transition between the dead winter season and the invigorating powers of the following seasons. There are many rituals performed to ensure vitality and fruitfulness.

The first pruning of the vines for the season is the main ritual performed on February 14, when people gather in the vineyards outside the villages.

Men set out to the vineyards to prune the vines, while women bake festive bread loaves in their houses and prepare roast chicken stuffed with rice. They put these and a flask of wine in a woolen bag and see the men to the gate. Women also knead special round loaves – a symbol of the fertile field, and generously hand them out to neighbours and relatives.

Before the pruning begins, men turn to the sun and make the sign of the cross three times. After the first three twigs are cut, they wash them with the red wine, holy water and wood ashes that they had kept since Christmas Eve.

At the end of the day, all get together amongst the vines to feast. They sing songs, drink wine and dance celebrating Saint Trifon, and the end of the winter. The man who harvested most grapes in the year is appointed “King”. Everyone wants to be blessed by him and treat him with their wine. The more wine is poured on that day, the more generous the next harvest is believed to be.

There are many different folklore versions of the way this Day is celebrated in different parts of the country, as well as many different legends about who Trifon was. However, ethnographers are unanimous that the celebrations are rooted in the ancient Dionysus festivities, celebrating Dionysus – the God of Wine, who was known to have taught people everywhere he went, how to grow vines and make wine.

As my father has small vineyard inherited from his father he has always been into this tradition.

Makes sense . We haven't worked on this case and we are just discussing it and you could see how twisted she is and how bad she is. Can you imagine what hard job it was this for the prosecutor? In her case I think people deep down knew that she did it, but she did change so many times her version of the things and did so many weird twisted things (that normal human beings don't do) that you need to prepare really carefully to catch her.

So not surprised. So she basically tried to manipulate him the way she manipulated men all her life (including Travis). Luckily for us and unfortunately for her, he didn't took the bait. Though I'm not sure what she expected. I mean even if she supposedly manages to convince him, he couldn't help her. She just did so many stupid things to get caught.

That is indeed clever to question her in scrambled way . To be honest I think that Jodi wasn't the smartest cookie out there. Twisted and sociopath she was. She did plan killing him. That's clear. She didn't think out things though or something intervened her plans. Not sure. I'm not sure that even she knew what she wanted to do. I think that in the end she herself was driven by two different things - punishing Travis for not wanting to be with her and getting away with it. For example I'm not sure that she did mistake leaving the camera. I think that maybe she wanted the naked pictures to be discovered so that she could gloat how she killed him and she was bad for him, but he still had sex with her. She is just not normal.

I do think that there is answer and the abuser knows it, but the abuser would never tell their victims. It might happen in the movies, but it doesn't happen in real life. Real life abusers do not tell the truth. Real life abusers try to abuse till the end. It's in their nature. It's like they are predators and their victims are the prey. They observe the people around them, they explore their weaknesses and use them to get what they want. The only way for the cycle to be broken is for the victim to not show weakness and dependence on the abuser. Problem is they do need to know why. And they are willing to do a lot to get the truth and they would never get it from the abuser because the abuser doesn't want to give it to them.

It's sad situation all around. Domestic violence and abuse is the worst. It brings trauma for life. It just plagues you till the end. I know it because I have close relatives that were victims of abuse and still would have if the abuser was still capable of doing it. Most probably that's why the story touches me in a way because it's something my mother found really important to teach me since young age. She thought that as a woman I have to know the signs of male abusers. She raised me in a way to actually not be weak for such abusers. It was really important for her.

I did find it interesting to observe this male abuser though. From psychology point I wanted to see how he operates and how he managed to convince my friend that he loves her and wants to protect her when in fact he wanted to control her. He actually was starting to get into physical violence and that was her wake up call. He blamed her for everything, including her 1 month baby crying. He was telling her day and day that she was incapable mother. And she is so natural, she has such strong mother instinct. It's truly rare and this is what saved her in the end. She is capable of doing anything to protect her daughter, including leaving a man that she loves. She really loved him long after she left him you know. And she was being upfront in saying that she left him because he is wrong for her, not because she doesn't love him. It's so sad because you know that she shouldn't love him. He abused her, but she can't help it. She can't break the control and what sucks is that she has to be in contact with him because of her daughter and she has to tolerate him. He uses every chance to tell her how she is not worth it. Every chance when they are alone. It's just sickening.
