Yes, the fact that he has the thought of playing means that he feels a little bit better, but patience is needed so that he does not put too much pressure on the ligament.
I usually have tons of patience but in this case, it's difficult because emotions are involved and you know how that works for me. You're right though, I have to keep literally chanting to myself patience is key because that's the truth.

I went out to lunch with three friends. Just got back now. Buddy looked at me and then walked away. LOL Normal Buddy runs up to me, wants hugged, whines until I kiss him. Definitely messes with my head. However, as I type this he's in his dogbed right at my feet. I just can't wait until his personality is back and physically he's feeling better.

Good thinking. It is possible they're correcting something at the moment but if it's a regular thing you have to deal with, it makes sense to look for a different provider.

It's true. It's different to be patient when it comes to things like that. Unfortunately you have no other choice. You know from your own experience that in such cases people should be patient and leave the ligament to rest and basically wait.

I know that he will, but unfortunately it won't happen just for a day or two. It's a serious injury and his body needs time to heal.

Definitely .
You don't suck with titles!

Definitely. I'm noticing little things with Buddy that are different. He doesn't want his crate as much anymore. I just let him outside and usually he wants to get to the crate (probably out of fear that he'll twist it) but right now on his own he's next to me relaxing. I do think things are getting better, I just have to be patient. I am going to call the vet back now too and talk to her. I'll let you know what she says.

How's work going?

Can't wait to know what the vet says!

Talked with vet

- She is 99% confident he's going to heal on his own.

- She said it's good that he's not crying or shaking anymore and that it only lasted for a day after the injury a little over a week ago. If he was really bad off he'd be crying/shaking often.

- She said these split second yelps/limps is the knee catching/ligament hurting and a second of pain. If he was in constant pain it'd be happening all the time and for longer time periods, not from 5 seconds - 30 seconds then done.

- Based on description she feels progress is happening. She said what she's going to do is prescribe another two weeks of rest after this second week. So next Monday will be two weeks... she wants the same thing for another two weeks, along with another prescription/two more weeks of anti-inflammatory medication. So basically he'll be on the anti-inflammatory for three more weeks. She said to call her before the weekend (she wants to call just to find out progress on Friday because if he has zero twinges then she won't even prescribe more) and she'll write out a new prescription to pick up.

- She said it's very important that I never gave him the second medication for pain. The fact that he's handling everything with just the anti-inflammatory again leans to great progress because dogs with very serious, long term injuries cannot function without that strong pain killer in addition to the anti-inflammatory. She said it's great I never even gave him one pill of the pain medication.

- She said she's seen this injury in her experience countless times and she does firmly believe Buddy is going to heal based on hearing about him one week later, his exam in the office, and her experience in seeing this injury.

- She said his kneecap and the issue being a little more loose has nothing to do with the ligament injury. In other words, the loose kneecap is not giving him any pain, it's all due to the partial ligament tear.

- She said when she mentioned possibly doing the x-ray in two weeks it wasn't IF he was still in pain, it was if he made zero progress whatsoever in two weeks of rest and medication. The fact that he's showing signs of progressing means the x-ray is definitely pushed aside and maybe not even necessary at all.

- She also highlighted when he puts his leg in the air when in pain... if he only goes there for seconds it means a quick twinge of pain then done. That's what he does. IF Buddy was putting his leg in the air constantly and in a prolonged manner, that means constant pain which thankfully he is not doing.

- She emphasized as long as it's not completely torn it should heal on its own. She knows it's not completely torn by exam.

- She said as far as knee braces, she doesn't feel it's necessary.

- She did joking say to stay off the Internet because people can say some really inaccurate things. She said very nicely to trust her, let her be the vet, take any worry and give it to her who will reassure. It was really cool how she worded this.

- She basically said as far as when Buddy will be completely healed, it varies so much... she's seen dogs heal in one week, two weeks, three weeks, four weeks, 2 months, 3 months but they do heal.

- She said Buddy has no other factors like being overweight or is a bigger dog. He's a small dog at the perfect weight.

So that's basically what she said. Excellent communication and phone call. The plan is to call her on Friday, she will order more anti-inflammatory medication for two more weeks. Keep doing the same thing. He will heal, it's going to take time, how long is not a precise answer but it will happen... could take weeks, could take a couple months. She's confident he will heal.

Good news from the Vet, Michelle! That's exactly what I thought. It still hurts when he moves, but he's getting better.

They are waiting on the biopsy results. They still do blood/plasma transfusion, but it seems like it's working. Her hemoglobin was 70 last week and not it's 108. They won't have the surgery unless it's at least 120. I am hoping that with the transfusion today she will reach 120, but we will see.

So happy that she gave you good news! Yes, now we have to wait and see his own pace. He will heal on his own, but he will determine how long he will need.

That is what you thought. Exactly. I feel good knowing he shouldn't have been expected to be 100% better within two weeks even if he's making progress. Of course I could always pick up on his mental state of mind. I knew that has slowly been improving. The physical aspect I just didn't know what was within the norm. I am also really glad that he hasn't suffered any side effects from the medication, too. Yes, slow but steady will beat this thing.

Got it. Once it reaches 120, will they do surgery right away?
