From thewb.com

Airs Monday, Jan. 26, 2004 at 9PM EST/8 PM C

"Controlling Interest"

Dr. Brown (Treat Williams) tries to intervene when a bulimic high school champion wrestler (guest star Douglas Smith, Gregory Smith's brother) puts his life in jeopardy for an important tournament. Bright (Chris Pratt) is suspended from school after he fights with Amy's (Emily Van Camp) boyfriend Tommy (Paul Wasilewski). Linda Abbott (Marcia Cross) suspects that that Andy is reluctant to move their relationship to a more intimate level because of her HIV status. Finally, Ephram (Gregory Smith) is convinced that college student Madison (Sarah Lancaster) is embarrassed to be seen with him.
Tom Amandes, John Beasley, Vivien Cardone, Debra Mooney and Stephanie Niznik also star. Lev L. Spiro directed the episode written by Michael Green

Pretty clearly a transitional episode. Maddy and Ephram are either going to break up altogether or make it within an episode or two. Probably likewise with TGDB and Linda. I'd say both Brown boys are going to get laid. Where things go after that is anybody's guess.

The rest...?

Wow, this is exciting! More Chris Pratt (yay!) and we get to see Greg's brother! I wonder if they look anything alike? Can't wait for tonight's episode!

Oh, and welcome, Profrrplum!

Hey,
I am really looking forward to seeing Bright deck Tommy. I think given the situation, Tommy kind of deserves it. Looks like a great episode.

I thought this episode was very dramatic!

The adults-Not really much of Mr and Mrs. Abbot. Mr. Abbot handled Bright's situation well. I contonue to applaud Amy's grandparents (Edna and Herb) for putting up with her. Good going, Dr. Brown for scoring with Linda. But bad mistake when he called her Julia.

Ephram/Madison-Enjoyed it somewhat but I don't think they have much chemistry and I don't see how this relationship can really last. They made up so quickly that it made me wonder.

Amy-I don't like the way she is acting. She is actong really self-indulgent even though there's an insistance there that she's trying to mend things with her family. Bad choice choosing her bf over her family. I think she'll be paying for it soon.

Amy/Ephram/Madison/Tommy-Their scene at the wrestling match was awesome! Highlight of the episode for me. I wish Amy and Ephram would get more one-on-one scenes though. It was a great moment when Ephram tried to make Amy jealous by holding Madison's hand or at least thats what I think was part of his intent. I know he wants to show her off but that was a rude way of doing it.

I didn't really care much about the other aspects of this episode but it sure made for a lot of drama!

The episode was okay, but definatly filler. Amy is really getting on my nerves and I was surprised at how Edna backed down from the Amy/phone thing, that was very un-like her.

Loved "Go kick his ass!" from Ephram. I love Ephram/Bright!

Aww! That was Greg's bro? Aww, how adorable! I liked him, I read somewhere that they both went for the part of Ephram.

I also loved the Ephram/Bright moment's!

My thoughts on last nights eppy:

Dr. Brown & Linda- I'm not a shipper for them, I personally think he belongs with Nina. I think Dr. Brown is in some risky business dating her because I don't want to see him get hurt again, but its good to see them happy for the time being.

Amy- I know she has been pretty selfish but you have to feel for her after walking in on her grandparents like that. I think I would die also. She really needs to go home though before Bright and her family do something drastic. I don't see how she would choose Tommy over her family. I mean- yeah her family shouldn't have attacked him but it seems like she always chooses boys first. She gives me the impression sometimes that she is dependant on them to make her feel better. She was obsessed with Colin, I hope that doesn't happen with Tommy.

Nina- I can't stand it! Where the is she!

Ephram & Madison- Will they just break up already? For God's sake she is embarrased to be seen with him in public and their fight still resulted in nothing..they still are in the same situation they were 2 weeks ago. If she knows what they are doing is wrong then it doesn't look like she'll tell anyone until he's 18 so good luck with that relationship.

Amy/Tommy/Ephram/Madison- my favorite scene! I'm a sucker for Greenie moments and we finally got one! Its so obvious that Ephram was trying to make Amy jealous and when Amy looked back at him you could tell she missed him.

Bright- I just want him to explode to his parents and tell them how he feels. He is always the last choice in the family and he is making such an effort to do better in school..I feel bad for him.

Next week looks good! I think its Sweeps month in Feb right? If so, then have some great episodes coming our way.

Since the legal age of consent in Colorado is 15 I have a real hard time with all of the "What we/you are doing is illegal". It's not. It may be weird and uncomfortable and people may not be used to it but IT IS NOT ILLEGAL. Sheesh!

Amy is a really hard person to like. If she gets her way she is OK but if not she becomes pouty and selfish, etc. But I think the story makes sense. Everyone gave her everything after Colin died because they felt bad for her and wanted her to be happy again. Now she is used to it and expects it. A tough situation but not a surprising one.

Gregory's brother did a good job but I can't get over the fact that he looks like he is about 12 years old (in the face - physically I could believe he is in high school). Again, I know people who have wrestled and the weigh in thing is a big deal and the guys do do alot to make weight. And the kid has the whole town expecting him to do this so he is in a bad position.

Overall a pretty good episode.

I agree.I don't get why Madison makes such a big deal of it.Maybe because she's not completely honest with Ephram and she takes that as an excuse of her not being THAT comfortable with him.I just think she's not in love with him.She likes him, she's attracted to him,sure...but not in love. It's pretty obvious to me.

Best part of the ep:
Ephram&Bright. That first scene is adorable!Ephram asking for Bright to kick the guy's ass.Just too damn funny. As if they already were an old couple,LOL.

Ephram&Madison,Bright,Tommy&Amy.I don't get it.Yes,Amy was hard with her family, yes she left, but for Christ's sake, can't they see how much she's struggling to get her life back?!And always throwing at her face Colin is sooo mean. The guy's dead and all she's trying to do is move on and stop thinking about him every second. Can't they just cut her some slack?!I understand for the parents coz they're completely clueless, but Bright should stop being so childish with both Amy&Tommy. What did he do to him?He never treated Amy badly,he was very nice at Thanksgiving and they're all so mean to him.Yes,he's done some bad stuff when he was younger but he assumed the consequences and he deserves to be treated well by people who don't know him. That bugs me so much.

Amy's really trying to make it up to Bright and he just should stop acting as if he were 10.

It was nice to get Greenie moments!AT LAST!Now we get why they don't hang out together anymore, now it makes a little more sense. But the wrestling match scene made it obvious Ephram was still in love with Amy while she was trying hard to get Ephram's friendship back.

I won't say Amy's perfect, she can be really selfish, but I really think her family(&Ephram) are being very hard with her and Tommy.I don't get why.Tommy was the only one getting her and understanding her pain, like Ephram was last season, unlike everyone else and,in fact, they're unhappy with that because they don't get her. They really should just get over it already before losing her for real.

I enjoyed this episode, and can't wait for more.
Amy is not being very considerate of her family. She shouldn't be surprised that Bright's not talking to her. It was sad though that the first E/A interaction in weeks had Ephram as the go-between for Amy and Bright. From the previews, it looks like Amy will be paying for her decision. Knowing the WB, it's probably nothing huge.

Ephram and Madison's relationship is more complicated than it needs to be. It's not illegal, but it's a drama so we have to dwell on the age difference. It was weird to me that the guy wouldn't let him buy tickets to the movie...Does that really happen to anyone underage? These two have a long way to go...

Andy/Linda...I don't know what to say about these two. It would definitely more interesting if we had Nina's take on this situation. Where is she?

Ephram: Dude, go kick his ass! Go. Kill.
Bright: How many times do I have to tell you? I'm not your dog.

Doug Smith did a good job portraying Gavin. I wouldn't have thought he and Greg were related by looking at him.
Looking forward to more Bright! It sucks that he got suspended, but I'm not surprised that the fight blew up the way it did. Bright has not had his voice heard about anything concerning the Amy-situation and fighting was probably the only way that he could express his anger. Great sequence with the wrestling.

I think a large part of why she did it was because of Amy walking in on her and Irv. I would feel awkward if my granddaughter walked in on me. I also think it was kind of telling amy she was welcomed but also saying that edna and irv weren't going to change thier lives for her

I thought this was a good episode. doug and greg don't look much a like.(stupid statement i know)

I definetly like how we're seeing a more hurt bright now...and that we're also seeing that ephram does use him at times.

Andy-i understand why he called linda julia...the convo was something very similar to what i imagne he would have fought with julia about. And i'm glad it wasn't her HIV in the way, but just the relationship in general, kind of showed that if you have hiv people will still love you.

tommy-should have just kept his mouth shut on the leaving comment, other than that i thought he was fine.

that's really all i have to say

Exactly. I don't see what everyone's problem with Amy is. Maybe I'm just not seeing it. Could someone delineate, maybe give some examples? My roommate was telling me that she is on the side of Bright and the parents, but I just don't get it.

Another good episode.

OK Greg and Doug look nothing a like. And I was so looking for some similar features, but saw not oen feature that was similar.

Anyways back to the episode.

Ephram- Though I am not a Madison fan and not really into Madisin & Ephram, I do recognize the fact that he needs this relationship in his life right about now. I say that because he needed to get over Amy and move on with someone who can appreciate him. Though I think the relationship will not last much longer, I hope Ephram can grow from it. Loved the akward scene with Tommy/Amy/Ephram/Madison. I think its the first intereaction Amy/Ephram had in a long while.

Amy- Still the brat I see. She made her choice and now she needs to live with the consequences since she claims to be old enough to make her decisions. Well honey the first rule of thumb that she obviously never learned, relationships come and go, but family is everything. Hope she learns that lesson soon plus I hope she learns that not everything should be about her. Cannot believe she had the nerve to tell Bright to get over himself. I was astounded those words came out of her selfish mouth. BTW, has she not ever heard of knocking before entering someone's bedroom. How rude was that.

Bright- How glad am I to see Bright finally reacting to the situation. Loved his snubbing Amy. She thinks that her actions have no consequences for others. Well they do. Lets not forget he is the ignored child since everything is/was always about Amy. I think Bright's fight with Tommy was more about him letting out his frustration with the situation more than his apparent dislike of Tommy. BTW how great are Brigh and Ephram. Love them as friends. The table scene with Amy was too great for words. That and the go beat him up scene.

ITA with the person who said Tommy should just have left well enough alone and left. Bright was already on a short fuse after his confrontation with Amy. Other than that Tommy was ok. Though there is something that is not quite right. I cannot put y finger on it yet.

Andy- Not an Andy/Linda shipper at all. So I am not into them. I totally understood why he called her Julia though. I think it was just a natural response because I can see him and Julia fighting about that same issue.

Dr. A- Not very much of him in this episode. But I loved that he did not back down and go apologize or whatever to Amy. Just walked on. I only hope that he can finally give Bright some of his attention now.

The B storyline of the week was actually very good. I actually hope that we see more of this storyline in the future and they bring back Doug. Like to see what happens to the kid and his eating disorder.

Where the hell is Nina?

I don't think Amy is being immature at all. And thank God for her grandma. If it weren't for her, she'd probably be living in jail dying of depression. I do think she was being a little intrusive with just walking into Irv and Edna's bedroom, but she learned her lesson. And it was sweet of her grandma to buy her a phone of her own.

I can understand how high strung Bright is. It seems like he's ignored SOOO much more now by his parents than he was before because all they worry about is Amy now.
However, I think Tommy is good for Amy. He listens to her and doesn't seem to be forcing her into anything and he still warns her against him. I think he's nice. But I'm still a little urked at Amy is with him so soon after Colin.

Also, concerning Andy, did he and Linda have sex? Because it seems wayyyyy too early in the relationship for that (but then again, I'm not an adult so...) and also isn't there a very high risk that he'll get HIV?

You guys are so lucky that you get to see the show on Monday. I have to avoid the boards until after I see it on Saturday night to post.
