What's amazing is one man, Mel Blanc, did all the voices of the Warner Brothers Looney Tunes characters, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety Bird, Sylvester the Cat, Yosemite Sam, Foghorn Leghorn, Marvin the Martian, Pepé Le Pew, Speedy Gonzales, Wile E. Coyote, Road Runner and the Tasmanian Devil. He was so versatile and talented.

I guess he needs positive feedback and validation and I suck at giving positive feedback. I mean I try, but I could forget. And in this specific case I do not want him to know all the details because if I tell him that my boss wanted to get rid of him it will cause additional tension between them. On the other hand though I guess he wants me to use words aside actions to show him that I trust him. I do not know what he wants . One thing I for sure do is to thank him every time he does something that I had asked him to do.

He did decide to tell me that a new female co-worker (that we both do not find to be incredibly smart; read we find her stupid) hit on him more than once and he rejected her because she is not smart (his words). I told him that if I thought that he was like her, I would not want him in my project. He was like "Koni don't offend me by comparing me with her". He thinks that she uses men to do her work. He also has a theory that her boyfriend (who is Developer too) does her work actually. He tests her and whenever he asks her how she did something, she can't explain. There is definitely something fishy there.
This would drive me nuts to work so closely with people at work and then having them care what I think of their performance/wanting positive feedback. You are handling this guy just fine. Thanking him, it's all you can do.

The female co-worker hitting on him is unacceptable in itself but it also sounds fishy that she doesn't do her work either. Weird deal.

Luckily today there was no mention about this. What can I say. Male ego .

He actually had to do her performance evaluation. Like I said he does not have high opinion of her when it comes to brain, capabilities and work . So naturally his scores reflected that. However our boss changed his evaluation completely and gave her scores that he had never given me or M.

M was present during the talk and the boss even said that M suggested her for salary raise. That is definitely not true. M actually thinks that she is not good for what we want her and he does not find her capable. He even thinks that our boss likes her too much and this is why he favors her. We have no tangible proof on that, but M sensed this in her first month in the team. The fact that the boss changed his scores so much does not help matters.

The boss even praised her personality traits and this is why she then asked M why he does not like her. Even our boss likes her and he does not want to go out with her. M does not care and pretty much left her without answer .

LOL I bet the Fire sign part adds to the ego too.

I work with a guy (even if we're very independent workers) and he's without any ego. He doesn't seek validation. He just does his work and knows it's fine. Then again our set up is different because we don't work as a group as a rule. Still, he keeps to himself. I know he's introverted based on his personality. I checked out his DOB one time and sure enough, Earth Sign, lol.

Weird. Why does your boss bother with having you guys do evaluations if he's just going to do his own evaluation instead? That's ridiculous.

Totally possible. He does have ego and he does think highly of himself. As I interact with him only about work I have no issues with that because he is indeed smarter than the others at work so I understand his confidence.

That's true. Not every man has an ego. I was joking.

Believe it or not this is what M said. He was quite annoyed about this. M has issues with authority quite similar to mine. If he thinks that someone is incompetent he does not treat them as authority. He does not care where that person in official hierarchy is. He does not find our boss competent. Same for the jerk. This is why he has so much issues with them. They act like they know a lot and he knows nothing. On the other hand he does not argue with me because I know what I know, but I also know what I don't know and I do respect him and what he knows.

As I do not think that my boss will admit that she is not good fit, I am left with the option to isolate her from my project. See. This is why I need to be cunning .

True that. Though knowing you I would not be surprised if you work from home in that time.

You have great patience. I cannot take ego. It seriously makes me sick. I would tell him to shut up if I could, lol. I am impressed with the people that are highly intelligent and successful and you would never know because they don't care or flaunt it. The quiet ones, the ones that don't need the compliments. The ones that need to feed their ego... not impressed. If it's in my face and I'd have to deal with it daily at work or personal life I would crack eventually. You definitely can handle this sort of thing much better than I ever could.

Why do you think your boss like this woman so much? Do they have a friendship so he's biased?

LOL That's very true. I work from home all the time and never want to take advantage of the gift I am given. Even my boss told me recently that I actually get way more done when I'm working from home. He said not everyone can go there. I told him I can because of the introversion and shy stuff. He said whatever I'm doing, keep it going. I honestly bet I get twice as much more work done from home. Plus, I spread it out too and am not overwhelmed. I probably do work 7 days a week in other words but not for 12 hours a day. Not even for 8 hours sometimes either. I can sort of manage the hours.

M told me the same thing today. I usually go home with him and another guy that I will call K. So whenever I ask K when he will be ready to leave his answer is I need some time. I of course need specific time meaning say after 15 minutes or 20 minutes. So of course I asked for it and he told me some time. I informed M and he was like "You decide what we will do". So I told K that I will wait for him until 5:40 pm. Of course said to M the same thing. We waited until 5:40 and then I wrote K to ask him if he is ready. Just at this time he decided to go to the toilet, then went missing and even left his phone on the desk. I told M that I won't wait for K and we should go. Of course K called me back when we were on the station already and I told him that the tram will be there in 3 minutes so if he comes within the next 3 minutes we will wait for him. If not well we take the tram.

This is not the first time we do this. K quite often disappears exactly after 5 pm which is around the time we want to leave and he never warns us or say something like I will be downstairs for 15 minutes wait for me. I always warn if I have a meeting after 5 pm and even tell them how much it would take so that they could decide if they want to wait for me. M was like "You are way too patient with him". So I guess I am a patient person. The thing is once I decide that it's enough, it's really enough.

Quote:

For sure. I think that maybe I am more patient because I have ego myself. However I do not need positive feedback in general. What I have issues with is if my boss ignores everything I do right and only focuses on what I did wrong. No one is perfect, but if he wants me to go beyond and above he has to show his appreciation.I have other options and I do expect my efforts to be properly appreciated (read having good salary that corresponds to my work).

They do not look like friends, but she is good looking woman. M claims that he has caught my boss starting at her so there might be that, but really we have no proof.

True. A lot of people would slack if they work from home . True when you are not bothered (and you can't be at home) you are far more efficient so you could do more work for less time.

I'm much more productive when I work from home, but I can't do it on a regular basis. I wish that I could, because there are so many distractions in the office. I also don't really like interacting with the other people in the office all that much. I'd just rather be left alone.

Makes sense. It is good (for safety reasons) that you travel with co-workers. Do you normally travel with them? How often are you alone?

Also, some people actually don't like working from home either because they know they won't be productive or they need to get out of the house for their job, they just prefer leaving their home environment for their profession. So working from home is definitely not for everyone for numerous reasons. I am happy I was made for this setting, lol.

It's too bad you can't work from home too often, but at least you can sometimes go there. How often do you work from home, say, in a month?

Yes, normally we travel together in the evening. In the morning I am alone. I go to work way earlier than them. In the evening we are together unless someone has to stay long at work or someone has something else to do. For example M was not with us on Tuesday because he had something else to do.

K and I live in the same neighborhood so for us it makes sense to travel together. M lives in another, but it's close enough to us to use the same tram. When we moved to the new office M and I first were not with the team. Our desks had not arrived so the jerk, M, the former female co-worker (that I met in the weekend) and I were in another room. So M and I arranged the first evening traveling together and it just remained like that.

In most cases I do not travel alone, but with at least one of them. Next week this might not happen as I will finish in 6 pm the earliest because of the workshop and M likes to leave earlier than 6 pm. But yeah on average we travel together.

Plus this does not fit into my moral compass. I believe that it's only fair to credit people for the things they are good at. Just like in a relationship people should not take their partners for granted, the same applies at work. However balance is needed. Not every day you do something so unique that you need pat on the back. Superlatives should be kept for the case where someone really did something good and not for everything they do. Of course during the evaluation this should be mentioned. Evaluation is not only to discuss the areas for improvement, it's also the time to show what the person does good.
Quote:

We might be wrong. We do not know the reasons, but the fact that he favors people that are not that smart or capable does not help. This is why M has so much issues with him. It's one thing to like someone that is really smart and capable and to defend him even and totally different to do it for people that just lack brain. That girl while good looking, is just not good. Like it's not because she does not know something. She just does not think. She can't even explain why and how she did something.

This is true. Extroverts would not want to work from home. They would need the social interaction and leaving the home. Also some people need external motivation. If they stay at home, they just would not work as no one is there to basically micromanage them.

I would have loved to have your setup and work from home.
