If I went by how much I disliked an actor I would hate Lucas's character too let's be honest but I agree he wasn't the greatest actor. In fact I think his appearance wasn't meant to turn into much, more of a publicity stunt to capitalize on his reality fame. I thought he picked it up in the later seasons though, but there is a reason we haven't seen him in much since.

Lightning Crashes by Live. One of my fav songs ever.

I didn't hate Chase because Stephen Colletti, I jus couldn't take his clean teen thing seriously. It seriously had me in stitches on the regular.

I am too. As a Leyton fan we never would have had season 6 and wait for it as Mona from Pretty Little Liars said as a ghost. LOL

The irony is I thought Brooke was too good for Chase. What I mean by that is as a supposed "good guy" he was very judgmental initially and I hated how that made Brooke feel. She had enough of feeling like crap with Lucas. I wanted someone for Brooke who can match her and she doesn't have to feel self conscious with. I think that does happen as the series moves alone... teaser for you, Betty!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh that song? LOL I thought Betty was asking about that song playing as Dan tries to commit suicide.

Hello, Live is one of my all time favorite bands ever. I have every album of theirs.

My favorite:

I've talked about Live on OT2 multiple times over the years but everyone has ignored my comments so I assumed no one else was into their music.

So yes, as a longterm Live fan (I've loved them since the first time they ever created a song)... check out ALL of their music because seriously they're outstanding!

FYI Lightning Crashes, the bigger picture is about life, death and rebirth.

Here's some bits on it:
Quote:
Ed Kowalczyk said, "I wrote 'Lightning Crashes' on an acoustic guitar in my brother's bedroom shortly before I had moved out of my parents' house and gotten my first place of my own." Kowalczyk says that the video for "Lightning Crashes" lends itself to many misinterpretations of the song's intent. "While the clip is shot in a home environment, I envisioned it taking place in a hospital, where all these simultaneous deaths and births are going on, one family mourning the loss of a woman while a screaming baby emerges from a young mother in another room. Nobody's dying in the act of childbirth, as some viewers think. What you're seeing is actually a happy ending based on a kind of transference of life. The dedication to Barbara Lewis came after the song was written. But it was something that we hoped would honor the memory of a girl we grew up with and help her family cope with sorrow -- which it seems to have accomplished -- in a fashion in keeping with the theme of the song."

In other words, this song is about the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The angel opens her eyes in birth, and closes them in death. The angel is both a symbol of the divine and of life, and the living people themselves (eyes opening for the first time in life, closing for the final time in death).
The pale blue-colored iris of a newborn baby represents the circle of life. The glory coming out to hide is the spark of the divine hidden within all people. It is there before us in plain sight, but hidden because we see the flesh most often rather than the spirit within.

It is not about the girl who died in the car accident, nor is it about abortion, miscarriage, etc. It is about the peaceful passing of a life (an old mother whose children are grown), and the joyful if hectic arrival of a new life (the new mother and her baby).
So you can see how it definitely was a good fit for this episode.

Yes, it's a fabulous song.

What else did you think of the finale and how would you sum up season 4 as a whole? Also, if you had to rank the first four seasons, how would you rank them?

Episode: 4.21

I absolutely loved the episode…it was beautifully done.

Loved the beginning of the episode that had the graduates walking proudly with their caps and gowns following Haley (who was in labor) to the waiting ambulance.

I loved the way Haley’s stretcher passed Karen’s stretcher in the hospital hallway…one going to the delivery room and the other going to the operating room.
Lucas and Nathan meet…and embrace. They was a beautiful scene. These two have come so far with each other.

Then we have Dan turning himself in. What a fool he was. Look what he is giving up. Two beautiful/wonderful sons, a beautiful grandson. Look what has become of him. He will miss out on so much thanks to horrible actions.
So pathetic. He couldn’t even kill himself.

I love how Keith is always there to greet his loved ones when they are at a life/death situation. He always sends them back! I especially found it lovely how Karen chose the name, “Lily”.
2 beautiful babies were born that day…

I loved that Peyton called Lucas to check on her car because that’s the way they first met. So adorable. Peyton needed Lucas to lay with her and heal her. These two are so perfect together.

I’m kind of loving Deb “the crazy grandmother.” Bring me home some drugs. Lol
I love that Nathan called Deb as well. I can tell they are going to be great parents. Jamie Lucas Scott is one lucky kid!

Good for Mouth twice! Kissing Brooke and punching that creep.

I’m glad Rachel got to get her diploma.

Nathan and Lucas exchanging baby photos…adorable!! How’s fatherhood? How’s brotherhood? So sweet!

I’m not sure I’m happy that Lucas and Nathan decided not to see Dan. Not for Dan’s sake..but for their sake. If Dan had successfully committed suicide…that would have been on their conscience for the rest of their lives. I wouldn’t want that guilt for them.

That visit from Karen….very very powerful.

I love that Lucas reassures Peyton and Brooke that they are bound for greatness. I especially liked that Lucas had Brooke read that passage in this book pertaining to her.

Chase: Be gentle with me.
How gentle can it be in a car? Lol

I’m glad Lucas told Peyton that he didn’t want her to go. He accepted her move a little too easily. I believe this is what Peyton has been waiting to hear.
She’s going to love him forever…

Lucas is going to be Nathan’s coach! I didn’t see that coming. That is super!
Will Lucas attend college as well?

Loved the ending montage and the song…(that I posted ^^^^^^^^).

Wonderful episode!!

Ranking the 4 seasons:

1, 4, 3, 2
Loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee your thoughts! I will more specifically comment on them after I see 4.21. I will quote your thoughts and comment as I move along.

As for rankings... I think that's my exact ranking too. The only thing I could change would be 1 and 4. I loved 4 so much, too. But I think 1, 4, 3, and 2 is ideally where I'd go too. It will be interesting to see where we insert the other seasons as we move along.

I have 5 more minutes left of 4.20 so sending thoughts in a second!

I won't let you wait long for me to start season 5. You can start now, I will be done with 4.20 and 4.21 by tonight.

- Deb slapping Lucas shocked me but I can see why she's so pissed off. That was her gun, she has been in enough trouble in the past, she also knows that playing with fire aka Dan can get your severely burned. Wow, Deb finally realized that Dan killed Keith pretty much because of her actions.

- So gross how Dan tries to manipulate things with Lucas so he'll still allow him to be in Karen's life. What a creep.

Peyton and Lucas are on the bed

PEYTON : I'm really glad you came back. I missed you.

LUCAS : You think we could just stay here for the rest of the summer?

PEYTON : Mmm, yeah, there was a chance of that till I took that internship. LUCAS : It's okay. I'm glad you did.

PEYTON : Yeah, it's gonna be a long summer.

LUCAS : Nah, it'll fly by.

PEYTON : You know, I... I really do appreciate you being supportive about all this, but a little bit of disappointment would be good for my ego.

LUCAS : I just want you to be happy, Peyton. You have so much magic in you...

PEYTON : But everything's okay?

LUCAS : I wish we never left that hotel room in Honey Grove, 'cause you're perfect, and we're perfect, and that night was... perfect.

PEYTON : Well, saying that just earned you another one.

LUCAS : I think I got to get back to the hospital.

PEYTON : Can I come with you?

LUCAS : Sure. Just... let me hold you for a couple more minutes. That's what's gonna fix me
Chad and Hilarie, thank you for the Lucas/Peyton story and magical chemistry. I love this scene so much!

- Love the Whitey/Haley talk. Haley is such a loving, supportive wife.

- Peyton getting Lucas dressed up in scrubs is so powerful. Man.

- Tons of foreshadowing throughout the episode showing Lucas/Peyton and Nathan/Haley as couples together, dealing with children, etc. You just SEE the two endgame couples.

- Absolutely love the scene between Lucas/Haley and Karen's gift for Lucas. Love the tie-in from The Pilot. Anyone who thinks Mark didn't plan the series out as far as the main themes and storylines didn't watch this show closely enough. There's such foreshadowing with Lucas' unfinished book too.

- Skills and Bevin and their very awesome parents... what a storyline. Love it!!!!!!!!!!!

- I wonder why that was the first time Nathan had ever been to Keith's grave? I found that a tad weird.

- Haley and Whitey come through for Nathan with basketball. This kind of reminds of All The Right Moves... that movie with Tom Cruise. It was a small town in western Pennsylvania. Cruise played a character like Nathan... good guy overall but screwed up. Character was a great football talent. He screws up and lost all of his scholarships. In the end, his high school coach takes a college position and ends up asking him to play for him. It's interesting because right before he accepts, he also was working in a construction/factory type of place too. I bet Mark thought of this movie when he did this storyline.

- Haley's speech was fabulous. I love how it related back to Lucas.

- Dan turning himself in was powerful stuff. He is horrible, he really is. But I also felt a little sorry for him. He could have ran, he could have just went far, far away but he faced it finally head on.

- Haley had to cut the speech short but for a good cause.

Betty, yes, this isn't Lightning Crashes and it's absolutely the song I said I listened to but cried when hearing it for the first time. Yes, Lightning Crashes was at the beginning of the episode! This song is at the end. We are in sync! LOL

So yes, the episode started with Live's Lightning Crashes:

And near the end of the episode, the song you're referring to was played:

The song you're referring to is the one that made my cry.

Both songs are gorgeous. Great music choices for this episode.

Yes, the song at the end is the one I'm referring to, and I'd love to know what it's called. It was beautiful.

I've never seen this film, but now want to.

Another thought I'd like to add about the final episode of the season is that it had so much Lucas/Nathan interaction. They have come so far from their first meeting and they now genuinely have a wonderful loving relationship.
I like that in the beginning of the episode Lucas told Peyton that he has no idea what he's going to do and needs some kind of revelation to help him make that decision.
Well...the revelation came when Haley asked him to be godfather to Jamie. That's when he made the decision to take Whitey's offer to become his assistant coach.

It's super good with some great actors: Tom Cruise, Craig T. Nelson, Lea Thompson.

Absolutely. Great thoughts.

Patricia, Shelby, Shu, Koni... do you guys know if the finale of 4 was possibly the series finale? It really feels like a series finale or could have been. Mark made sure all the main dynamics got a chance to interact. Even Brooke and Lucas got a nice scene together. This feels like it was set up to be either a season or series finale. Was Mark sure that a season 5 was happening while writing/directing 4.21 or what was exactly going on there?
