I don't think there were "side characters" on Alias. It was such an ensemble show. Sydney was the certainly the base, but she didn't carry it by herself the way Buffy did or the way Mulder and Scully did. And I mean that in a good way. I don't mean that Sydney wasn't as powerful or as important as Buffy or M&S were, but they allowed the glory of the other characters to create a support system for Sydney, and that gave real heart to the whole show.

With the X-Files, don't get me wrong, it's one of my favorite shows ever, but I really could've used at least one less 14-year-old-boy violent/monster-of-the-week episode in exchange for a characterization episode per season. A little more Skinner, a little more CSM, a little more about Mulder's family, Scully's family, etc.

So the fact that we had time for such a HUGE ensemble on Alias and therefore, we really knew who Weiss was, who Marshall was, who Dixon was, who Sloane was, who Dixon was, who Vaughn was, etc. speaks well of the writers.

As you know, I’ve been listening to Alias music and its 2 soundtracks lately, and when the score for “Sydney Implores Dixon” comes on, I can’t help, but tear up thinking about the episode and the scene in the episode.
