Paris, Je T'aime: Le Premier

I'm bringing over all the important information from the rumoured/unfinanced thread.

Orlando is apparently playing a character called Eli in a section directed by Gus Van Sant.
His section is the 4th arrondissement and he co-stars with Gaspard Ulliel.

Basic summary of the film.

Quote:
Paris, je t'aime is about the plurality of cinema in one mythic location: Paris, the City of Love.

Twenty filmmakers will bring their own personal touch, underlining the wide variety of styles, genres, encounters and the various atmospheres and lifestyles that prevail in the neighborhoods of Paris. Each director has been given five minutes of freedom, and we, as producers, carry the responsibility of weaving a single narrative unit out of those twenty moments. The 20 films will not appear in the order of the arrondissements, from one to twenty, but rather, in a pertinent narrative order, initially unknown to the audience. They will be fused together by transitional interstitial sequences, and also via the introduction and epilogue sequences of the feature film.

Each transition will begin with the last shot of the previous film and will end with the first shot of the following film, and will have a threefold function: 1) The first is to extend the enchantment and the emotion of the previous segment, 2) The second is to prepare the audience for the surprise of the next segment, and 3) The third is to provide a general, comfortable and cohesive atmosphere to the feature film. The delightful and brief interludes of these transitions will enable the viewer to slide from one world to the next, featuring a recurring and unexpected character. This mysterious character is a witness to the Parisian life and helps create a continuous narration. It appears both in and in-between the films.

In addition to the information these transitions will provide about the city and its people, their tone will be intentionally light often referring to famous scenes easily attributed to the history of Paris cinema.

Similar specifications will be followed by the composer who will supervise the musical fusion between the films and the transitions as he creates the musical score of Paris, je t'aime.

Considering the common theme of Paris and Love, the fusion between the films and the transitions, the fast pace of a fluid and complete storytelling, Paris, je t'aime will not be just another "anthology" picture. It will be a unique collective feature film that will constitute a two-hour cinematographic spectacle whose original structure will make for a dramatically different experience for its global audience.

More news about Paris, je t'aime:

This is all rumour right now but if it's true...
Apparently the 4th arrondissement is the gay section of Paris. Also Orlando's section is the only one to have two male leads rather than a male and a female lead.
Draw your own conclusions

Elijah Wood was on the Jo Wiley(?) show and mentioned Paris JT. He may be in the process of signing for it or he may already have. He didnt mention anything specific about his involvement in it.

Here's hoping Orlando will push through. It's a change and a challenge for him to do these kinds of films. So, join me in crossing our fingers.

Thanks for starting the thread Karma.

I am actual more excited for this three minute mini-film than E-town.

Because, I mean -- possible male kissage! With Gaspard! Who might I add, actually looks good without a bra. Unlike other costars.

If in that three-minute film, i get to see some slash stuff that are always running in my head then I'd die to have Orli kiss Gaspard. ANd he's a nice looking lad so bring it on.

I'm excited as well, but not because of a possible kiss between the two... more because I'm just interested to see how the whole project turns out.

Well, its not just the kissage! I mean, its what the kissage will bring about! Imagine the melee afterwards. Also, imagine the acting thatll be required. Every great actor has played a homosexual/transvestite at some point -- because its a tough role to play if youre straight. Now Ill just await to hear news of Lando taking on a mentally challenged role and we know hell be legendary.

ETA: Karm, I edited the title (as you can see) to put "first" in French in there -- thought itd be fun to keep the entire title french from now on, so if we get to thread two itd be "deux" and so forth. Hope you dont mind.

you, poo. for changing the title to French.

I should've been more precise...
merci de changer le titre!
now that doesn't sound grammatically correct. We should go back to English.

Anyhoo, what's the plot of the film anyway? Except that they're gays.

Oh man, you dont want to hear my french. Its horrid.

Lets do Spanish instead.

De nada!

Well, the entire plot of the film is Paris in general. I dont think theres any info about the plot of any of the segments. And the bit about it being a gay segment isnt even confirmed yet. They may just be brothers.

You realise for those of us who did three terms of beginners french maximum, le premier seems a lot like we're talking about the opening night of the movie?

Yes, I know. I only took one semester actually. But le premier sounds better than: "Paris, je t'aime: Un"

I'm excited about this for the story as well as the possible boy kissage.
I just wish we'd get official confirmation on this so we know 100% that he's doing this.

Well, since the director (producer?) has named him specifically shouldnt we take it as confirmation?

Are you talking about the guy on the IMDB board? Because i take anything anyone says on the internet with a huge grain of salt and there was no way to prove he was who he said he was.

While i'm sure he is doing it (he's been connected to it in too many places for it to be a mistake) i wish Variety or the Hollywood Reporter would say something official about it.
