Australian model Miranda Kerr...the new face of David Jones.

A DINGY street in Surry Hills received an injection of international glamour yesterday when Miranda Kerr arrived for a photo shoot.

The new "face" of David Jones drifted into Kirrily Johnston's studio 20 minutes late amid chaotic scenes of pattern-cutting and model-fitting, as the designer gets ready for her show that opens Australian Fashion Week on Monday.

Kerr, the New York-based model who was Australia's first Victoria's Secret lingerie model, flew into Sydney on Tuesday with her boyfriend, the Lord Of The Rings actor Orlando Bloom.

"Nice watch," she said to a member of the assembled beauty pack. "You'd better watch out, Orlando might steal that. He's a watch freak.

"Are you still with the same boy?" she asked a fellow glamazon, before inviting the Herald into the back seat of her limousine for an interview.

Kerr is in Sydney for David Jones, replacing Megan Gale who retired at age 32 to focus on acting. After celebrating her 25th birthday on Sunday Kerr is the same age as Gale when she was recruited to the job of fashion ambassador.

Last night, the glamour from Gunnedah attended a dinner with the department store's high-profile designers. On Saturday, her and Bloom will be the star attractions at Doncaster Day, the David Jones Derby, and next week she has front-row seats for Fashion Week shows by three of the store's key designers, Alex Perry, Sass & Bide and Johnston.

"Orlando won't be attending the shows."

And what of reports that her new beau was nervously awaiting his first meeting with her father?

"He's already met my mother and my grandmother. My dad's coming down. He's a very lovely guy. If I'm happy then he's happy. Of course he cares about his little girl and he's protective in his own way but he's very accepting of my choices."

As she put the final touches on her new creations, Johnston said she was thrilled with her famous front-row guest.

"She did my first solo show for me a couple of years ago and it's great to see her. I love her. She's always one of my favourites and I'm totally proud of her. I think it's going to create a bit of excitement," the designer said.

there you go, there is a youtube interview that I haven't seen where she cuts off them from asking her questions about him, but she volunteered info first. I just wish she were more tactful.
