There's a sense of security and comfort and trust she had in Pacey, that she never had in Dawson. It was like when she was with Pacey she knew everything was going to be ok and she would be well taken care of, which is interesting because that completely goes against what they'd been trying to feed us the whole time, which is that Pacey was the irresponsible slacker, who couldn't be trusted. In the end, Pacey proved to be a more stable choice for her than Dawson, which is interesting to say the least.

so true. she always believed dawson was the stable one and thats what we were led to believe in the earlier seasons but in the end it becomes apparent that pacey and joeys love was one thing that never faltered which made it so much more secure

what a great underrated scene. She is crying her eyes out at the thought of him leaving her. I like that she says "you've never held me back. You have to stop thinking like that" Truer words were never spoken. While he felt like she was afraid to move on and live her life because of him, she really felt the opposite. When they go to the party in 421, she was so thrilled at the unrealistic hope that Pacey would get into Worthington with her. At the end, she chose Pacey over hanging out with the other kids or talking to the Dean

look how her face lights up when she thinks Pacey might have a chance of going to Worthington

I laughed at the look on Joey's face in the third cap, after their almost kiss. It's just hte look on her face is like "Why did he almost kiss me, i thought we were broken up?" It's just a look of utter confusion on her face. She wants to kiss him, but she can't because they aren't together anymore

And i love how Pacey does lean in, like kissing her is a habit, something he'll do for the rest of his life

And she does look happy at the possibility of Pacey getting into Worthington. That shows she never wanted to break up and she wanted to be with Pacey.

Sad.

clark, totally agree. She gets embarrassed when she's talking to the Dean about Pacey and remembers they are broken up

Yeah, she definitely never wanted things to end between her and Pacey. That's for sure.

there was always so much tension between p/jo after they broke up in the following episodes because you could tell how much they both wanted to be together and they just couldn't because the timing wasn't right. it was so sad but powerful at the same time!

My heart freaking broke for them in 'Seperation Anxiety'. I felt so bad for them because Pacey really felt he was doing what was best for them, and more specifically Joey. He wanted her to go out there and experience life and what was out there, and she didn't want anything or anyone but him.

excuse the comparison, but they're really my only other OTP, but the same happened with Lucas/Peyton when he asked her to marry him and she said 'someday'. She just wanted them to go out and live their lives and accomplish the things they wanted to accomplish before settling down, and Lucas really didn't care about anything except having Peyton by his side. She thought she was doing the right thing by wanting to be older and more established when they settled down, but like Joey said 'how can I enjoy it without you?'. Both couples had to find out a variant of that on their own. That being together makes everything worth it and gives you motivation, meaning and purpose. you have a reason to do things.
