I loved that Pacey made Joey take more risks and get out of her comfort zone. It was just another thing showing they matured and grew together. With Dawson she was stuck in the same place, never growing up or evolving. That's just another thing showing why they never worked out or belonged together. I loved when Joey said Dawson would of never inspired her to run away on a boat for a summer, ain't that the truth.

I Think it was pretty obvious when the name of the boat was called 'True Love'. That they would end up together haha.

Exactly, epsiodes don't exist in isolation. You can't judge each chapter separately in a book or even a book in a series. The whole thing has to come together. You can't write something in Season 2 and expect it not to have implications in Season 3. Or you can't write something in season 6 and expect it to not affect what you wrote in Season 1. Everything has to be put together and it may not have been intentional but it is what it is.

If we want to think of another parallel, we can go back to season 5 when Joey is talking about Dawson to Pacey, she says who and what she wanted shifted. Fast forward to the finale and she tells Jen she knows who she is supposed to be with. It was probably unintentional, but Joey just melts when she's hugging Pacey at the end of AFD in season 5

Season 5 and 6 are so confused. Like they knew they didn't want to do the triangle but still knew they had to do the triangle. So they started to make comments about the triangle through other stories.

Like Elliot vs Professor Wilder. Elliot being the name of the lead in ET and Wilder being her hot teacher. Its a symbolic triangle again, she chooses Wilder.

Then there is Eddie, the living embodiment of Joey's indecision. Half Dawson, Half Pacey as he is called out in Merry Mayhem. (another thing to notice is that when in Season 4 Dawson is without Pacey and Joey he also has a 50/50, Gretchen Witter. The childhood crush with the Witter sense. Both Joey and Dawson try to find their triangle again. The three of them need each other to be complete. You can argue in S2 Pacey tries to make up the gap of Joey in some ways with Andie.)

Then there are the mini-mes at the very end of season 6 where they recreate the movie on the dock. Mini Joey is in love with Mini Pacey.

Season 6 would have been better had they been braver. They just didn't want to destroy Williamson's Dawson/Joey vision. But none of Season 5 and 6 says anything in the end which is why Williamson could do a finale that essentially ignored them altogether. The stuff about Joey and Dawson being childhood first love was there in 3 and 4 already.
The stuff about Dawson being a fantasy and Pacey being reality is all there in A Cinderella Story.


When Joey says that they are always in that room having the same arguments, ghosts of their former selves its a statement on the writing. It never moved forward because they were afraid of going to far against the original concept.

And I also just noticed a parallel with that argument between Joey and Dawson in season 6. How they can't get fight and get past it.

That exchange was always vague to me. Was he upset because he realised the fights he thought were actual fights were never actual fights. That the banter was flirting? Dawson sincerely believes in Season 1 Joey and Pacey hate each other but we know that isn't true. Was he just realising it then? Or did he think about how he and Joey fought and it always led to something serious. When Joey and Pacey fight they can get over it. They've been fighting since they were 5 years old and they are closer than ever.

I'll go with #3.
