[2x22] "Parental Discretion Advised" December 15th - December 20th
The Official Dawson's Creek Board Rewatch Thread "Parental Discretion Advised" ~ 2x22 Synopsis: Dawson is unsure about whether to tell Joey about her father's drug dealing. Sheriff Witter stakes out the Ice House, believing that Mr. Potter is back to his old tricks. When the gang is studying in the restaurant, one of Mr. Potter's unruly competitors sets it on fire with everyone still inside, making Dawson's conflict greater. Gail tells Mitch about her new job offer in Philadelphia. Pacey becomes depressed now that Andie is gone and his father mocks his pain, which results in a physical confrontation between Pacey and the Sheriff. As a result, Sheriff Witter comes to understand Andie's importance in Pacey's life and that he has been a bad father. Jack becomes worried that Jen is suicidal when she doesn't immediately leave the burning Ice House. Later, Grams and Jen reconcile, causing Jen to move back in, taking Jack with her as well. Joey aids the police in arresting her father, having been encouraged to do so by Dawson. Afterwards, she tells Dawson she will never forgive him and wants him out of her life, bringing their romance to a second grinding halt. We would like to invite everyone to participate in our re-watch, be it first-time viewer or long-time fan. This is our opportunity to relive the Dawson's Creek days and to discuss our favorite moments, things we would like to change or maybe totally new things we never noticed before. We will watch one episode every two weeks. Due to our different time-zones we decided to not name an exact time and date, so everyone can decide for themselves when they watch the episode. We will update this thread every second Friday, when we start a new episode, so all discussion can take place in here too. Have Fun! __________________

I love that Grams came to Jen and told her to come home, that was really sweet. It's a shame that Jen turned her away. The Jack/Jen friendship is so adorable and I love that she went back home and took Jac with her!
Dawson not telling Joey about her father immediately was a huge mistake. Doesn't he know how Joey would react to that? However, I'm so irritated with Joey always taking everything out on Dawson. I feel like he can do better than her. He deserves someone that appreciates him and sees everything he has to offer. I am still a fan of them and I will always love their friendship but I do feel differently in some aspects during this rewatch. GRRR I hate Pacey's father so much! Hitting Pacey... My blood is boiling after that! I WAS SO GLAD HE PUNCHED HIM. And Pacey defending Andie was . Pacey just owns my heart. I didn't love the scene at the end because it felt fake to me. Seeing Pacey hug him after everything he put him through? Laying his hands on him? I wouldnt speak to my father again after that. __________________

It's tough being a kid and having a tumultuous relationship with a parent, and most of the time they just want the love and approval from their parents. It doesn't make it right or wrong, it's just the way it is.
On a happier note, I read that Josh and the actor who played his father had a really great relationship, but then that's Josh for you I noticed your Riverdale Icon. I just watched episode 4 this evening. __________________

It's a bittersweet hug because you know that they still have major issues. I guess, it is realistic.

I don't like the hug. I mean, it's kind of a nice hug, because you feel for Pacey in this moment and he deserves it, but as we know, it's just fake, it's not real. It's maybe a sentimental moment, but not more.
I can understand that Pacey is happy in this moment, because he really wants to be be loved from his father. Every child wants that. The sad thing is, Pacey didn't get it. Never. We learn in Season 4 how horrible Paceys family really is (apart from Gretchen und, at least on his better days, Doug). The problem ist, the hug changed absolutely nothing about that. Pacey is still the loser for his family and we see in Season 4, that his dad doesn't care about him at all. He really suffered a lot in Season 4, but he didn't get any support at all from his parents. He got another fake-hug on his 18th birthday, after a nightmare of a "party". That's it. So I don't like this hug. It promises something that never happend. It's so sad that Pacey had to earn a lot of money until his father could accept ihm, and to be honest, that was quite unfair regarding Doug who really cared about his father. That just shows that John Witter isn't exactly a great person. I hated him. Especially in this episode when he actually hits Pacey. I love this episode anyways. When I first watched it, I was just overwhelmed with all my emotions. I love Jen and Grams. Both are so vulnerable when Jen came back to her. And I felt for Jen whose parents are as worse as Paceys. When her mother forbid her to come home, I was just What kind of mother would react like that?!? But when Grams agreeds to give shelter for her and Jack - that was just one of the many, many moments where you know why DC is such a great show. I felt for Joey and for Dawson, both had difficult decisions to made, and there is no right or wrong. I couldn't tell what Dawson should have done or if he did the right thing. It was a really tough situation. And of course the scene, when Pacey defends Andie. That was just..... heartbreaking. It's so sad what they did to Pacey/Andie in Season 3. I really like Pacey/Joey at some point, but after this episode I was sure hat Pacey/Andie are made for eternity..... |

I don't think I would call the hug necessarily fake. In the moment, I believe John Witter truly wanted to comfort Pacey. That absolutely doesn't excuse his abuse toward Pacey, past and in the future. John was a bad father, but he did have hints of sincerity.
Let's not forget that Kevin Williamson was there for S2 and the hug. Who knows where Pacey and his father would be in S4 if he stayed. __________________
