Actors/actresses who can do that, completely eliminate a natural accent, get super high marks in my book because they are essentially "faking" another accent to replace there natural one and it is really hard to "fake" any kind of accent.

The funny thing about "American" accents is there really isn't any one that people can adhere to. Like different parts of France have different "accents," as do most countries I assume, so do different parts of the US. If I go anywhere south of Ohio, people tell me I have an accent but I don't even notice it.

There are very few actors who do good accent work in my opinion. James McAvoy is one. The other is Johnny Depp. If you ever listen to him speak, he has a very distinct sound to his voice. But you never hear that in his films. His voice never sounds like it does in RL. He's amazing like that.

True. But my accent is more american than british is that makes sense. When I speak french I have a slight south west accent (I lived in Bordeaux for 6 years)

Honestly, you ask 8 out of 10 Americans and they'll tell you, "What accent? I don't have an accent!"

I remember when I took foriegn languages in HS, my French teacher use to get soooo pissed at me because I couldn't do the accent. I'm like, "I'm not FRENCH!" I couldn't roll my "r's" or make the sounds necessary to make it sound proper, I guess. I really loathed my French teacher, though.

Some sounds in french are really though. The "r" especially. I had problems with a few sounds that don't exist in french when I started studying english too

I sucked at French. I'm not going to lie. I always ended up pronouncing the last letters and she's like, "NO!!! You can't do that. They're silent!!" Oy.

Although, maybe if I'd stuck with it I could actually read your FB statuses. I got parts of this...I know that you don't love Rob. hehe.

Italian was much easier for me, mostly because everything is more phonetic. It all sounds the way its spelled.

I have to admire anyone who learns English because it's a royal pain to learn a language and they say English is one of the harder ones to learn.

Most of my FB's friends are french and suck at english

French is very difficult when it comes to grammar and spelling, it has like a hundred rules and exceptions

And I'm not about the rules and exceptions. I figure one language is enough for me.

I know my own two languages and a little Spanish, which I think I need to know more especially since I live in Texas

I wanted to take Japanese in high school, but it was between that or photography and well the photo teacher was never there so it was basically a free period

I don't have an accent. Or at least I don't think I do. I wonder if I sound southern to people from up north.

I know basic Spanish. I took it for so many years, I should know a lot more.

He is. I love the accent he has for his new movie. I love any accent he has lol. He's so sexy.

I never once needed to know Spanish while in Texas. Although, we were in the eastern part of the state, nowhere near Mexico. I am convinced that they don't have pita bread in Texas. We went to every, single store in Killeen and finally had to go to a Greek restaurant and buy pita bread from the guy. Crazy.

See, I think we should have to learn a foriegn language as a requirement for graduation. Not just take it for a year or two in HS. It would never stick though because, well, English is the standard and we already speak that here.
