It does suck that it's such a hassle. It's like even when you have insurance, they have to make it difficult.

I am convinced the tests are why they really get you, Ali. I mean, it's almost $100 (or, at least, for me it was) to have a tube of blood drawn to run two tests on it. Ridiculous.

ETA: 'Your baby is too fat': Insurer denies baby Alex Lange coverage because of weight

OMFG! That makes me so angry that I cannot form coherent thoughts without interjecting language that isn't permitted here.

I'm having arguments with the billing office and insurance people because of the lab tests. I was told that it would cover and now they are telling me only certain lab tests get covered. What pisses me off the most is that if they knew my health insurance doesnt cover certain tests why couldn't they have told me that before I took the test? And every time I would call the billing office they told me everything was fine and were sending my health insurance a claim number. Both are EFFFING stupid.

That is so messed up about that child. How can they label a 4 month obese? And then have the gall to tell the parents that their baby is fat. What the hell is wrong with these people? I'm sorry but if that was my child, I would get the name of the person who called my child fat, drive up there and cut that bitch.

Which is why I love our system, it's complicated and it costs a lot (our taxes are crazy) but at least I know that if I get sick it won't cost me a fortune

My mom use to be so paranoid about that, Fa. And she has always had decent insurance. Still, she is afraid of them doing a test that the insurance won't cover because she can't afford to pay for it, really. I can remember every MRI, CT, etc. I had growing up and my mom asking, "Does insurance cover that?" Because that stuff is expensive. An MRI costs $1000 out the door.

That's the big problem here, Jess. Our taxes will go up exponentially. But I say why the **** do I care? My taxes have been funding a garbage war in Iraq for the last 6 years and they fund a garbage education system that won't actually pay for my college. The pay for welfare benefits for people who aren't legal citizens here. I'd rather be willing to pay for something that might actually help people.

And the "fat baby" controversy is exactly why a public health care option is needed. Baby's are chubby. It happens. It's not anyone's fault, really. Besides, he's not super obese or anything. He's in the 99th percentile for children his age, which I suppose means he borders on being "overweight." I understand that childhood obesity is an epidemic in this country but I don't think we should punish overweight children by taking away health care. That's only going to exacerbate other problems.

Exactly. I had to do one of those urine tests and I swear it cost a few hundred dollars, lmao. Insane!

I miss the times we had good health insurance like Blue Cross and Blue Shield. I never really paid much attention to the whole health insurance thing and now that it's directly effecting me I'm getting pissed off and they need to fix this problem or I will get the next plane to London

The american system is ridiculous, I cannot believe that in the richest country in the world, some people can't actually afford to take care of themselves

It really is, Jess.

What makes no sense to me is that a program has been implemented to take care of medical needs of the elderly and the impoverished (i.e. Medicaid and Medicare) yet no one ever thought, "Why not just make it nationwide and offer health benefits to an entire nation?" Had someone sold it when the nation's people were prosperous, and not struggling because of a recession, we would have it by now. But it hasn't happened because these right-wing whack jobs with all their money would rather spend American tax dollars on erroneous wars and abstinence only education.

ETA: I heard this news the other day and figured I'd post this since we sorta, kinda follow the Duggars here.

Grandduggar.
I like her name though.

Jess, they're a family with 18, soon to be 19, kids. They were kind of at the forefront of this whole "large family" phenomenon that's been going on in the US over the last few years.

It sucks that the couple did have time for themselves and their marriage and got pregnant right away. But I guess thats what happens when you don't use birth control. If I ever get married I would like to wait at least two/three years before I start having kids. I would like to have just that "couple" time and not have to worry about kids and stuff.

It'll be 19 in March because the mother (and now grandmother) is pregnant again. She's some kind of medical anomaly. I mean, I know it's easy to know when you can get pregnant. I guess she and her daughters chart when she's ovulating. But to carry that many pregnancies to term is phenomenal in itself.
