I forgot about the first accident I was in. I had only my permit at the time and my friend who was in the passenger seat didn't even have that. We used to joke 'one permit does not equal a license.' (like Clueless, but worse ) We were driving her mom's huge car, I called it The Beast. Anyway, I got in the right turning lane but then we decided to go left so I reversed and when I hit the curb I accidentally slammed on the gas instead of the brake. :X (my mom tells everyone the story of when I first got into the driver's seat of a car after getting my permit, the first thing I said was 'which one is the brake and which one is the gas?' ) I hit the brakes before we ended up all the way in a canal. The cops came but they didn't do anything, not even scorn us lol. Not sure if it was because I was sobbing or that he didn't know what to do because they probably didn't normally encounter accidents involving one car.

Speaking of accidents, have you heard about the Airbus that was supposed to do Rio/Paris? We still don't know what happened
I heard about it on Twitter lol. It's so crazy.

I would love it if Obama came to my city, I would be in line waiting just to meet him, if possible

He's come to Detroit, that I know. But I'm not going all the way down there just to meet him. It would be way to crowded.

How long is he going to be in Paris specifically?

It's kinda sad that I don't know that, isn't it? I mean, he is MY president.

I don't live to far from my city, maybe like an hour...I think

Just reading that they are finding bodies in the ocean from the plane crash ..so sad but at least now the families know what happened and hopefully will be able to bury their loved ones.

Everyone knew that there were probably dead (technically there were few chances they were on a desert island) but I guess this makes it more real

I only live about 45 minutes away from the city but I have to take like 47 freeways just to get downtown because the jackhole that designed the infrastructure of the Metro-Detroit area was doing acid. And when I get downtown, it's a nightmare. Let's just say I don't know why they put turn signals on cars because no one ever uses them.

But if the president wanted to come visit my town, I'd be down for it. I'd bake him cookies and eveything.

I think we just like to hold out hope, no matter the odds, because its easier to deal with a false reality sometimes. There's enough tragedy in the world, why create more in our minds without concrete evidence. It's like when small children go "missing." Odds are, they were murdered but there are always search parties and t-shirts that say, "Have you seen this child?" We never want to believe the worst, no matter how true we know it to be.

yeah I think that seeing a body is the first step of grieving. My aunt killed herself a long time ago and if I didn't see the body I would have never got over the denial part

We live in a world culture where seeing is believing. Why do you think the idea of "God" is on such a downturn in some parts of the world? Or why people are so susceptible to fasle prophets like Osama Bin Laden (not to say I know of him ever claiming to be a prophet or if anyone has labeled him as such). Because it is much easier to believe in something tangible than not.

I think suicide is a hard pill to swallow, because even in seeing the body, you know that person suffered tremendously. Usually, when you see a person's remains, you can convince yourself, "That person is at peace now." With a suicide victims (yes, I think people who commit suicide are ultimately victims of a greater circumstance because I don't think most people haphazardly decide to take their own lives), it is harder to accept that.

Suicide is always difficult because in a way you always think you could/should have done something to prevent it or that you're somehow responsible.
I agree with you, they are victims It takes a lot to decide to take your own life

Exactly. I remember the first (and only) time I saw my best friend's wrist all bandaged up and I saw what he'd tried, and it shook me to the core. I was 19 at the time and for being someone who didn't ever cry over much of anything I cried. And cried. For like 3 days. After that, I stayed close by and I talked to him constantly. He probably thought it was smothering but I wasn't about to lose him, especially not on my watch.
