Why did Drew have to disappear?
That seems to be the big question. I don't think there's ever been a clear cut reason given for why Drue didn't come back. Unless it exists and I haven't heard it. I guess we'll never know for sure. All we know is that it kinda sucked that they built up to a Drue/Jen reunion in Boston, as hinted at in Promicide, but never got it.

At least we got to see it in the deleted scenes that they posted during the time of the original airing of the show. Now it seems nowhere to be found.
Which is too bad for anyone who never really watched during its original airing. Like me. Honestly, it sounds pretty hilarious and I would love to have seen it. I bet there is someone, somewhere, who has it saved from way back when and it may someday surface on the web. Or, at least I can hope. hehe.

I really never heard a concrete reason, just speculation.

I've heard around that S4 was meant to be the last season of the show, for whatever reason, and that may have played a role in Drue/Mark not being in S5 when it was established that there would be one. I don't know how true or false that is but it's all I've ever heard. I've never heard it said that MM didn't want to come back as Drue, but I imagine he would have if they had asked him.

Camilla, Your Drue/Jen icon is gorgeous!

I think that's the biggest mistake the writers made over the seasons... not having Drue in S5 and S6. As much as I loved Dawson/Jen in S5, I knew that it wouldn't last because of the triangle. But Drue/Jen could've lasted forever and Jen could've had a happy ending.

But noooo.

Pull up a chair in the bitter barn, Ali. We may be here awhile.

I think that Drue and Jen definately had the possibility for longevity on their side. I would even say that there still could have been a Dawson/Jen in S5 () and I would have been okay with it if there had been an opening for Drue and Jen towards the end of that season or in the beginning of S6. Although, I think if he had been back, the Dawson/Jen thing may have been bypassed for them.

Can we have cheese crackers, too? I don't like cookies but cheese crackers are my weakness. And considering that Drue/Jen fans will always venture into the bitter barn, we better keep the snacks well stocked.

But it's like any show, I think. The smaller ships are slighted so as not to take away from the "main" ships. The focal relationships of the show were front and center and the other, smaller ones were left on the fringe of everything. They either weren't onscreen enough or they were underdeveloped and what little progression occurred, it was pretty much trampled in the wake of S5. Not just Drue and Jen, either. Look at Jack and Toby. I thought they were great together but after one episode in S5, they were done. I understand that long distance, post HS relationships tend not to work but it was very abrupt.

We can have them It's OUR bitter barn

I seem to always go for the "smaller" couple but it's actually tougher to ship cause the writers don't care as much for them

Awesome. At least we'll have good snacks while being bitter.

More and more, I think I'm the same way. I'll always love my main DC ship, but I think something about the smaller ships appeals to me more. With Drue and Jen, it was the history and the possibilities. I love the raw hatred they sometimes had for each other but also the sweetness that surfaced from time to time.

They had a very interesting dynamic. And he knew the before and after Capeside Jen so it's even more special

Exactly. Kind of like Pacey, Dawson and Joey all knew each other before she came to Capeside, and Andie and Jack obviously knew each other before they did. It was kind of nice that Jen had someone who knew her before hand, willing to back her after he came to Capeside. Obviously, it wasn't quite so simple because they both had a ton of issues with themselves and with each other. Still, it was nice to see Jen have someone that was all her own.

I think that they both came from a bad place but were able to get over it, and it was nice to see them both change

It was good they both found a way to "grow-up" a little in S4, partly because of each other. Especially Jen. I think it could have been disasterous for her to go to college with all of her demons haunting her they way they seemed to in S4. Yes, I think they came back up because of Drue but she would have enountered drug and alcohol abuse and sexual situations in college and she might have been tempted back into her "old ways" had she not been forced to look at her past in NY.

I think it's good that it came back at that moment and not when she was alone in college. And she was able to really get over it and to grow up
