He really did. I think Prom was just another example of Drue wanting to be close to Jen when given the opportunity to do so and he got a little rejected when she didn't want to be there with him so he pulled back a little and told her he was only with her because Jackers paid him to be.

In all honesty, I think going to his Sr. Prom with her was a dream come true.

yeah, well bitter...and gutter-y.

You know Drue actually made more effort to work things out with Jen, and despite all his issues, he really wore his heart on the sleeve with Jen at times, but she somehow didnt see it, and so didnt care, and that made Drue shut down, and cover it up with some more bullsh-t. So I tend to sympathise with Drue more.

Once you look beyond all his bluster, it is hard not to feel for him and think, "Wow, Jen is really blowing it." He really put himself out there to make ammends with that girl and it was never going to be enough.

As far as Prom went, he bought her a corsage. If he only cared about the money, and not the date itself, he could have skipped it. I'm sure Jack's deal didn't include the details.

Exactly, and as much as I sympathised with Jen's situation in that season, and understood her reasons for keeping Drue at a distance, it pained me to see how sincerely Drue wanted to work things out, and how he put himself out there only to have Jen reject it and to see that she still couldnt get herself to give him a chance. I was really disappointed with the way she was written in that season at times.

And about the prom, I dont thnk money ever was Drue's only reason for taking Jen to the prom, just the idea is ridiculous.

S4 Jen had moments where she was like Pod!Jen and in no way resembled the Jen that any of us knew. Jen never would have been so unreceptive to Drue. She would have given him one chance to set the record straight. I don't even think he would have held the stuff in NY against her had she given him a chance.

Jack's payback was just the opening Drue needed to get what he wanted. It is my suspiscion that Drue really wasn't a "prom" kind of guy but had he wanted to go, I can't think of him wanting to go with anyone other than Jen.

Thats true. S4 Jen was not the Jen we'd come to know and understand over the previous seasons. It wasnt Jen to be so harsh, and so unforgiving and so unwilling to give a chance to someone who clearly was doing everything to show that he deserved it, and who had proved it to her that he truly meant to sort things out with her.

Something for the writers.

I never saw Drue as the kind of guy who'd want to go to the prom either. So if he went, it surely had nothing to do with the money. Seriously, the guy was rich, why would he do something he didnt want to for 50 bucks. It was just an excuse to spend some time with Jen.

I mean, I could understand her apprehension. She was wary of just letting Drue back into her life, as well she should have been. He was charming and a bit shifty. She just didn't want to get herself into trouble again and her past with Drue definately involved trouble. I understood why she had her guard up. But for her to be completely inflexible witht him was so out of character. She could have spent some time with him while still keeping her distance until she felt comfortable letting him back into her life fully.

Stupid writers.

Even if he was flat broke, I'm sure he wouldn't have taken the money because it wasn't about that for him. It was about taking the girl of his dreams to the prom. And lets not forget that Jen obviously said yes when he asked. We didn't hear her say it but why would he have shown up to take her if she'd said no. Or, if she thought he wouldn't take no for an answer, why wouldn't she just stay home? I know it's the prom but if she didn't want to be around him, she had other options.

I agree that it was never about the money Jack offered Drue to take Jen to prom. She probably would have never gone with him if Jack hadn't created the opportunity for that to happen. Drue didn't want the money. He just wanted the date with Jen.

He definately made the most of it. It's like he said in 4.21, "How many prom drownings to I have to save you from before you see that I've changed?" Or something to that effect. And she says, "One, maybe two." Something changed between them because of prom.

I am trying to place those quotes but I can't, for some reason.

On a side note, I'm working on a new vid of these two. It's 3/4 done but I still have to do the "fun" (read:annoying) technical stuff, like the coloring. Hopefully, it'll be done by the end of the week.

It's entirely possible that it was the infamous "extra" scene of Drue and Jen at the prom that has vanished into the abyss that is the net.

That may be it. I really need to watch season 4 again, I remember loving these two. Why did Drew have to disappear?

Oh Gosh that is the missing scene from the prom episode. It was such a great line and funny moment for Jen and Drue. Leave it up to the editing/writers to leave out one of the best scenes. At least we got to see it in the deleted scenes that they posted during the time of the original airing of the show. Now it seems nowhere to be found.
