Episode Discussion # 415 - "Four Stories"

The morning after, Joey and Pacey discover they've overslept and missed the bus back to Capeside. While they wait for the next one, the couple find themselves confronted with the tensions that accompany the latest development of their relationship. Meanwhile, as punishment for breaking into her hotel mini-bar during the class ski trip, Mr. Kasdan decides to send Jen to a psychologist where she can discuss her "inner teen issues."

Back in Capeside, Joey and Dawson's paths collide and they spend an evening catching up on the past weekend and its many happenings. Sensing a change in Joey's demeanor, he poses the unthinkable question, forcing Joey to consider whether honesty is the best policy.

I may be a D/Jer but I do not hate Pacey. But I hated him in this episode. I just hated how he acted during his talk with Joey. I hated how after she said it was ''Very Nice'' how he acted that it was not good enough of an answer. I mean I know us guys have egos but come on it was her first time what do you expect and of course it irked me how again he had to bring up Dawson. I did feel bad for Joey when he put her in tears. I think it was very nice that Mr Brooks put Dawson in his will. I think he and Grams helped his good heart come out again.

I loved the Dawson/Joey scenes at the end it was great seeing them back at the swing set we last saw in the season 2 opener and I adore how they declare they will always have a piece of one another's hearts. Nice seeing them hanging out and having fun. As for the end well Dawson should not have asked that question I admit.

Agree Coolcat. I loved the last story, it was good to see D/Jo having a good time together... and how they knew they would always be a part of each others' lives. However, I also admit I prefered if Dawson kept his mouth shut and didn't ask the question... but we're talking about DC, right? Of course, they would include this to use later...

Eh...Jen's therapy session was cool. The Mr. Brook's storyline was the most yawn worthy. Pacey being obnoxious to Joey about her saying it was "very nice"...lemme tell you, I wasn't too shocked about that. I actually expected it. And as for Dawson's inappropriate question...he just shouldn't have asked it, and I'm glad she lied to him about it.

It was an OK episode...but these are the kind of "Creek" episodes I can't stand.

Hated this episode. I actually always fastforward my dvd at the bit where Joey lies to Dawson if I ever watch this one. It makes me so angry. I think the P/J relationship is so sweet, and her lie ruins it a bit.

I thought this episode was kind of boring. I think the concept was better in my mind than it turned out. I vaguely remember the Jen and the Dawson/Gretchen story. Pacey and Joeys story was okay, got some great classic banter there but Pacey was pretty insensitive, really unlike him, I think even the cast picked up on that, remember reading on the spoiler board that Josh hated how Pacey acted in that scene. Glad they made up in the end though.

The Dawson and Joey story was cute, swings, puppies, they did a good job of bringing Dawson and Joey back to "15" giving Joey some feeling of being back to normal with Dawson so you can see why she wouldnt want to ruin things, the problem with their relationship is in the first place feeling lik eyou could ruin a friendship by telling that friend that you lost your virginity. A very weird "friend" dynamic if you ask me.

Maybe because it's not only a friendly dynamic. They were not just friends, they were ex-boyfriends and I think it's hard to talk about some issues with your ex-boyfriend. Dawson and Joey, since the Pilot, realized they could never talk to each other like they used to...

I really didn't see them as "15" again. I saw two friends hanging out together, talking and having a pleasant time. The swingset was a DJ symbol and Joey mentioned that to Dawson:
Jo: Last time we were here...
Dawson: It was a very different time.

I don't think that brings them to their '15' again...

I agree. These types of creepy episodes made me really wonder why the hell I was watching

I couldn't believe Dawson asked her the "big question"! And then couldn't believe that Joey lied! She has no spine!! It was like she was trying to hide her sex life from her father or something. That scene was soooo lame.

Couldn't they have come up with a better way of Dawson finding out about P/J having sex, since he just HAD to find out? Instead, they make Dawson look like a psycho stalker who Joey should really hide from. And Joey as an even bigger liar.

Atleast the Jen scenes were amusing though.

Dawson was alright until he asked that insane question. Why? And to top it off Joey lies about it. I understand it would hurt him but if you are a true friend you would not keep secrets because later on those lies will come back to hurt you and the person you lied to. Which was seen episodes later. To protect Dawson form what was really happening was unfair for him, I think, to not give him chance to understand. And becuase she was not honest sooner her relationship with pacey started to fall (even though it wasn't the only reason it was faltering)

The truth can hurt but its never good to be a fake around someone one calls their friend. In this case, Joey BEST friend, Dawson. But it's good to be honest and open becuse thats what a friend is for.

That may be true, but at that point they were friends and ex boyfriend or not lying shouldnt be in the equation of such a relationship I dont think. It's certainly not a good or healthy sign that you feel lik eyou have to lie about such a thing so as not to jeopardize another relationship, maybe its not just a friendship dynamic but it certainly is an odd one. I always thought that when another relationship has any sort of bearing, especially negative, on another there's definitely something wrong there.

I also really do think they were, in a sense, brought back to 15 again and I think it was blatant and done on purpose. PUppies? Swingsets? It's obvious they were at a different time in their lives but the actions were still meant to bring back memories in their mind and in the viewers mind, that much was obvious. And I think that was done to put Joey in a place where she remembered a more fond time in her relationship with Dawson so that she almost felt like they were back to normal, which their relationship certainly wasnt, so she was scared to tell Dawson the truth because she didnt want to ruin the night they'd just had. It's all very telling, and I dont think it can be denied that there was an intentional "early Dawson and Joey" vibe thrown in there.

I agree. Though I kind of agree with Sugz also.
This evning was meant to bring back memories for both of them. Memories of their good times together as friends or something more.
The "SOMETHING MORE" aspect has always been the sore point btw DJ during the whole season 4.
Just remember that at this point in time the writers were still leading toward a DJ direction ( just think about the ANNE FRICKE's comment about how DJ were meant to be and were the heart of the show. She became a writer in season 4.) so I think that the whole second part of season 4 was meant to lead DJ toward the kiss of Coda and P&J (who were beginning to fight more and were slowly taking saparates ways) toward the break up of Promcide.
During the second part of the season we can see that DJ are overcoming their iusses and are becoming closer while Pacey and Joey's iusses are every day more evident leading them in different directions.
