It's funny... I couldn't remember what this fight was about at first. Because they have so many about every single little thing that they are all jumbled together in my mind. Dawson was such a good little soulmate, being completely understanding (see cap^) of why Joey was upset about him wanting to turn in her father.

I never really took the time to look at the OP closely, which was a mistake. A lot of the material is very anti Dawson/James which is not the purpose of the thread. Using words like "the head" to mock Dawson is totally inapropriate since it's also bashing the actor. I edited everything that was not respecting the rules. If you have any question, you can PM me. I love that scene. It showed how insensitive Dawson was (laughing at her for entering the pageant). Towards the person he called his best friend.

Exactly, especially given how much it hurt her pride to be there in the first place he should have been more sensitive. It said a lot that he only noticed her all dressed up.

But I love that she stood up for herself and didn't let things go from there. Because 'it's just lipstick and it's just hairspray' he needed to see the real Joey and I don't think he ever really did. So many of the other guys she dated got her and understood her. Whether she was dressed up pretty or not. They took the time to get to know her and understand her, wheres Dawson seemed to assume he already knew everything and therefor restricted her ability to grow.

The same can be said the other way too. While I disliked Dawsons character I could see character progression from him too at times. But only when she wasn't around. Such as when he was with Jen the second time or with Gretchen. With those girls he could be himself in a way and could learn and grow and make mistakes. But they kept trying to force DJ which hurt bothe chracters. But Joey more so.

In the end they were just bad for each other. And it was why they didn't end up together.

That is so very true and it went both ways. It was probably their biggest downfall and it's one of the many things that prevented them from functioning like an actual couple (i.e.- staying together for longer than a month at a time, inspiring each other rather than stunting, etc.).

aww thanks. Real growth has to take place for a couple to survive and we saw that in their other realtionships. I may not have agreed with every realtionship Joey was in but they all added to the person she was and helped her discover more about herself. This is key. And what was missing from J/D

yup i totally agree with your post too, Fay. and i really love your icon by the way... anyways, yeah the beauty pagent episode bothered me because all it took for dawson to fall for joey was lipstick, hairspray, and a dress. i mean, so superficial. at least Pacey noticed her beauty before that stuff in double date. and it's also true how they held each other back. dawson in that he was constantly selfish and wanting her to stay with him even though it meant she was giving things up in the meantime...paris...pacey....and Joey did it to dawson as well. it the valentine's day episode, she kept watching his every move and scolding him like his mother when he wanted to let loose and party a little bit. i mean, that's not healthy. even dawson told her that she has a little drawing in her head about him labeled "dawson." they held each other back from everything and stood still. only with pacey did they move forward.

Well said, Mary. ITA! That's the general theme of Dawson and Joey: holding each other back, not allowing each other to move forward, preventing any growth from actually taking place. It's just a horrible kind of relationship to be in.

i completely agree with you guys.
and thats one of the main reasons why i was just never all that into DJo. in season 2, i was way more into Pacey/Andie than DJo because at a certain point.. you just get tired of the same storylines... and thats how they were. they kept holding each other back and holding on to the past and thats basically all we ever got to see... and as a viewer, i grew bored.
