They were like each other's back up plans. Joey only wanted Dawson when all her other guys had not panned out. He stopped being her first choice after season 2.

So true. Think about the end of S4 and all of S5 and S6... the ONLY reason she wanted to be with Dawson was because Pacey dumped her.

Exactly. She even said so to Pacey in Castaways that he broke up with her and she couldn't stay around forever. I honestly think Joey didn't know how to be single. Even in seasons 5-6 she kept going around with so many guys...I think part of her inability to give it a rest with Dawson was that she needed someone.

Yeah, but then she always pushed the guys away or they ended up going off (That was more just Eddie) so with all these guys it was like she was running from Pacey till the end of the show when she go the courage to stop running

I think she chose Eddie over Pacey because she knew that Eddie was going to bolt. And he does two episodes later. Does she care? No. She goes right back to the triangle, trying to fix things between Dawson and Pacey without even mourning Eddie's absence. She didn't want him. She wanted him as an excuse to not be with Pacey.

Just as much as Eddie wasn't going to leave, she knew that Pacey was going to stay. He had pretty much told her that he could envision them getting married and living happily ever after ("I don't know where this is going, Jo. As in, it could go anywhere."). She wasn't ready for that.

It's a good point that she couldn't be alone. Was she ever single on the show besides S1?

I think with Dawson, it had been an unrequited love and they had to have closure on it before they could be finished with each other. They had to finally get it wrong for good before they let each other go. And they used each other when they were scared and alone. There's a whole bunch of bad stuff going on there.

I am sorta glad they had sex beginning of season 6 because it killed whatever romantic love they had left for each other.

I think she chose Eddie for that reason too. She wasn't ready to settle down with Pacey so she ran away from it all again. The only reason why those episodes killed her is because it didn't look as if she felt bad at all when she dumped Pacey like that. Then when Eddie left there was no saddness there either. I think there was a serious problem with the writing in seasons 5-6 which I blame on DJo. If the writers weren't trying to find so many ways to make them work, Joey wouldn't have come off as so oblivious in the later seasons.

She's sad when she's hugging Eddie right? I can't remember. I tend to block out non-Pacey parts.

I thought she acted as though she didn't feel badly about losing Pacey either, which bothered me at first. But she was probably relieved that she was able to run away from him, which is what I think we saw. She wouldn't be sad about leaving him if her total intention was to run away from him. Plus, she always knew that she could go back when she wanted to.

I have to say, their discussions were boring. All seasons. I mean, they had a lot in season 1, starting with the first scene of the pilot, but still, their long droning and moaning discussions in all seasons just about bored me to death. And after them making a huge deal over their "first kiss, which is really their second, how do we do it? blah blah blah" in the first episode of the second season, that was just enough. Really!

When I first got the DVDs, I'd do marathons and not allow myself to skip over anything. And I try to still do that but DJ are so boring! I can't help but fast forward. Not so much in S1 but all of the other seasons for sure.
